Read last years pre season thread.. it was just as bad as this one. Some people say glasses are just always half full.

If I'm Blackmon, I'm letting it fly. He is a knockdown three point shooter. He's not making the team, who cares?

We shot an ungodly percentage from 3 and the Celts are pretty much a brand new roster. I wouldn't read too much into it.
We have good three point shooters now, we're occasionally going to shoot like this.
Don't be too positive.
An ungodly percentage from 3....and I'm supposed to be unhappy about that?
Actually means we have some 3 point shooters, a stark change. That was their best 5, they lead by 2 at the half. I don't care how you want to spin making 3s, unless your a Celtics fan, you still have to make them. They didn't.
Now put their best 5 against our best 5, and let's see what happens.

Thinking about upping my win total after the first two games. Just loving too much of what I'm seeing.

We improved 18 wins last season by essentially just adding them and Jo only played in 31 games. Not going to expect a lot of games from Embiid, but Saric does give us somethings that we desperately lack without him - hustle, control, and wing depth.
Celtics basically started their best 5 tonight.

JJ and Bayless were brought in precisely for their 3pt shooting. It shouldn't be a surprise that they actually hit uncontested 3s.
And you give the Celtz a "brand new roster" excuse....well how much time have the starting 5 of Simmons, Bayless, JJ, Cov, Amir spent playing together? NONE of them have played together (unless you count the 3 or so games Bayless played with Cov last year).

Shoulder soreness. Don't worry, we play the Celtics again on Monday, should play then.

We played pretty well tonight. Defense still is a work in progress. I wonder if Brett will have the defense worked out by opening night?

Agreed Embiid Saric and Fultz were out this game and they could easily be starting for us once the season starts

Re: Celtics @ Sixers - Preseason Game 2
fun game.
I like the adjustment of playing Simmons more off the ball and having him give the ball up quicker. Bayless and JJ are going to be huge for us from a spacing standpoint, both move really well without the ball. Our bigs need to step it up on the boards and defensively tho. We will need somebody capable of creating their own shot...right now Bayless seems to be it...which is bad. Fultz needs to be that...not even talking about making them but someone the defense has to guard when things get stagnant (Embiid will help big time there too obviously). We need another wing or TLC to actually be what he occasionally showed near the end of the year because Stauskas is doo doo and Anderson is better off as a standstill only guy with energy (NO DRIBBLING).
There are going to be some growing pains to start the year for sure tho...as such I think lineups and rotation will be key. 3 shooters on the floor at all times...even if they are shooters in name only (Staukas, TLC, and Dario)....no TJ/Simmons/Anderson lineups. Simmons should have a combo of Fultz,Bayless, JJ, Cov on the floor with him at all times. But again its going to take some time.
so get ready for a lot of ugly basketball...and I better not see any FIRE SO AND SO posts for at least the first month. This is going to take a bit to gel before being able to see what sticks or not. Practice is not an actual game after all

And this is without any Summer League minutes. Ring rust + adapting to the speed of NBA.
They aren’t hot takes. Simmons has shot horribly and is finishing terribly at the rim. He better play better or we won’t be that good.
Rarely does any high usage Rookie Guard shoot over 42% and a lot of good ones have shot less than 40% in their rookie season. I bet not one Rookie guard in this year's lottery class shoots 40% this year
True. I’m just saying Simmons needs to finish better. He’s 6’10. He seems like a smart player so we shall see. I still like what I see from him. He just has to work on his free throws and shots within 6 feet.

Re: Celtics @ Sixers - Preseason Game 2
We've played well to begin games with the line-up that starts and the first few off of the bench, we fell apart again tonight going deeper into the bench and mixing line-ups to get more players minutes. I think we'll be fine having more stable rotations and obviously more players consistently able to play every night.

Re: Celtics @ Sixers - Preseason Game 2
Good:
Redick and Johnson are nice vets.
Finally Sixers have some good shooters.
Another good game from Okafor. Dunking and rebounding, yet looking a bit lost in defense.
Bad:
Simmons FT%, can't play off-ball with TJ.
Holmes, Sauce, TJ...

I think the Celtics are favourites in the East - I reckon we acquitted ourselves quite well though its true we had to shoot lights out to keep pace with them.

We played poorly and so did you guys. It's preseason. Means nothing. Hell the NYK almost beat Washington. Detroit Lions 0-16 team was 4-0 in preseason.
But I did think Reddick looks good shooting threes and jumpers in Philly white. Good fit there. Looking forward to see Fultz/Embiid/Simmons. Simmons didn't blow me away but I see the talent.

There's no reason to doubt he will finish better eventually. He was an amazing finisher at LSU and those weird looking shots worked for him. I'm chalking up a good bit to rust + stepping up to NBA speed.
The freethrows, however, I'm not so confident.
