Even his mid-range jumper was pretty weak at Kentucky. He definitely needs significant jumpshot improvement. The free throw percentage in the clinging point for optimism.

I'd go as far to say even Fultz was a more promising jumpshooter in 2017 than Maxey is right now.

No he wasn't. Fultz was a garbage time shooter, who put up some points against the Cal States of the world. He never made a shot against a pro prospect level defender his entire college career.

Maxey's jumper is pretty terrible right now, bro. He shot 35% from the mid-range at Kentucky. And obviously he has no three point range at the moment.

I'll take Maxey's 80% FT percentage and 40% 3pt percentage against top 20 opponents over the other guys 20 games against Cal St Northridge and UC Irvine, any day. Competition doesn't faze Maxey like the other guy.

You better be patient with his three point shot. It's going to come, but it will take a while ala Jordan Clarkson. 80% free throw or not, he doesn't have natural shooting range and he didn't make jumpers at a good percentage anywhere on the floor.

No matter how many times you repeat it, Fultz didn’t forget how to shoot because he “couldn’t handle the pressure of NBA-level defenders.”

I haven't watched enough to compare much, but I feel like Fox gets himself to the rim much more athletically to finish, while Maxey is more of a below the rim crafty finisher. Both are valuable but would rather have a guy getting looks at the rim like Fox does.

Not sure if anyone reported this, but Doc has said that Maxey will get rotation minutes from the start.

That's optimistic. Regardless of whether or not we make a Harden trade, Milton and Maxey need to be our go-to guards ahead of Seth Curry.

Maxey being playable early is going to ultimately displace Curry from the starting lineup, which is a good thing. If Shake stays on his current trajectory you have to start him or, alternatively, nominally start Maxey so Shake can stay in the Lou Williams role. Their skill sets are too important for one of them to be relegated to a minor role. Also, I can't see a world where Shake doesn't close.
They say an analytics man doesn't have a heart, but I ran the numbers and nothing can be further from the truth - Sam Hinkie probably

Despite my pre-draft apprehensions, I really hope this tenacious work ethic turns him into a superstar. He's the type of guy any team would want.

With Tyrese Mitchell and Shake Harden, the future is looking bright! 8-)

At this point I think we can safely say that Shake has arrived. And Maxey, so far...

I've come back to earth a bit with him after these few games. Obviously a rookie so I'm going to give him time and not overreact, but he feels/plays very small in my opinion. Like, he looked smaller than his hopeful comparison last night, Sexton. He will desperately need that shot to come around for him to be a legit NBA player. He's also been quicker than I remember at UK which is promising. Still tries hard on defense but I do think he gets lost at times which could be a symptom of being a rookie on a new team.

Good news Tyrese, the Rox may not ask for you in a trade for Harden. Thank you for your cooperation.

Nice start. Keep on building.
Key is the 3points shot: if it becomes a thing, the kid is going to be awesome.

I thought he was taller but he looks like he could be a player in time.

ESPN has him at 6'2" 192. So yeah, he's a little smaller than originally advertised.

Yes I know the season just started. But it must be nice to get drafted, even if it's lower than you expected, enjoy the grind of getting better, play in actual NBA games, see your game improve and then every other week get a nice fat check deposited into your account for playing a game you used to play for free. Good for Maxey keep on improving.
You want it to be one way....but it's the other way.
