For Asik that pick has to be unprotected. That contract is ridiculous.

Speaking of which, Why does NO think this will work out any better than AD + Asik?

Lottery protected and Ajinca that's a good trade

Who cares about Ajinca anyway. We get a mid 15 pick for a player that is useless in our franchise

BC doing well in trade so far

This. It is a pointless trade. Okafor has more upside than people think -- and that is coming from someone who thinks he is terrible (right now). He is coming back from a knee injury.

Ultimately he needed to be traded, but the protection on the pick will be big in how I personally feel about this deal.

Don't mistake useless now with useless in the future.

Not sure what the expectations were for Okafor in terms of trade value. I'd be happy with a deal like this.

Losing Okafor is addition by subtraction. We knew he didn't have much value anyway, how is holding onto him any longer going to help? Besides hoping a team devastated by injuries would need a big, I see no real value to just keeping him and riding the bench.

The grade for this trade entirely depends on how protected this pick is.

I am truly shocked and appalled.

This is borderline "worst case scenario".

JO is gonna be a 20/10 guy for 10 years in the NBA, just not with us.

This sucks. (sucks I mean, that really we could not do any better than a late 1st round pick for him. And unlike other 'failed picks', no-one really thinks he was a bust, his team was a bust.)

An Okafor trade also makes the likelihood of resigning Noel very high so that is another good thing that comes out of this.

He might end up being a bust, but this year he never had a chance to get in rhythm. And he was coming back from knee surgery. I think next year the Pelicans (if they trade for him) will be pleasantly surprised by what they get with him. He will be closer to needing a new contract so expect the effort level to pick up.

The Sixers definitely can't be taking Asik back in any deal. Ajinca's deal isnt terrible mainly because it's relatively (in today's NBA) small, but paying $12M a year for the next four years for Asik to be the 3rd string center should kill any potential deal.

I can't believe people still think Jahlil Okafor is a good basketball player.

I THOUGHT WE WERE ALL IN AGREEMENT ON THIS BY NOW.

I'm sitting in my office refusing to go home until this is resolved.

I won't be happy if protections eventually turn into a couple 2nd rounders. Then it's not worth it. I'm not gonna get on board with the hate parade and say GET RID OF HIM FOR NOTHING!

But a lotto pick that reduces protections over the coming years? Sure, sign me up. Best for all involved.
