Re: Welcome Paul Reed
Similarly to Thybulle, I think he could play from day 1. Rebounds like a big and defends like a perimeter player. And he can hit free throws. I think he's a plug and play role player.

... At minimum.

Actually if you ask me which Center I want for my perfect championship caliber team, I will chose Asik hands down

Hard for me to wrap my head around this one. Diakite is a legit liability, defensively. He cannot defend in space at all. He also can't rebound the ball. And with 41 career assists in 134 career games, he is absolutely a black hole with no vision or passing ability whatsoever. I don't think there's a single area where Diakite thrives over Paul Reed other than free throw rate. Which is irrelevant to me because I don't think any team would ever want Diakite driving offense for them.
Monix wrote:or Tillie
Ehh, Tillie is fine. He's not a liability defensively and his jumper is solid. He can't rebound, though, and he's made of glass. Not sure why you prefer him over Reed when Reed is the superior defender, superior rebounder, and is still promising as a shooter and is more durable with less medical red flags.

Re: Welcome Paul Reed
IMO, Reed is a flash defender with limited substance - sells out for blocks and steals not a true defensive stalwart. Think G-League Nerlens Noel. Offensively, there's nothing there.
He was just more athletic than the bigs in his conference. He's going to have to completely change his mindset to stay on the floor in the NBA.
I see Diakite as a more disciplined defender with a higher catch & shoot upside. Bucks got the better guy - ready to step in and play his role in the league.

I'm not just saying this because we landed him, I legit would take Reed over all but two bigs in this draft (Okongwu and Tillman). Almost all of the bigs taken in the 1st round are either insufficient defenders or insufficient rebounders (in some cases, both).

I value deflections and generating takeaways extremely high. Especially in a league the has rules in place to dissuade physical man-defense. Paul Reed would have elite defensive value across multiple generations of the game, but he holds even more value in the modern game. Is citing Nerlens Noel supposed to be a detractor? Noel is one of the finest defensive assets in the sport, in my eyes.
There's not much I look for in bigs offensively other than being able to hit their free throws so they can play late in games. Reed can do that. Not sure why you're optimistic about Diakite's shooting potential and uninterested about Reed's. Their shooting profiles are nearly identical; Diakite with his 33.7% three and 72% free throw, Reed with his 33% three and 73.9% free throw. Is Reed's hitch throwing you? Because we've seen plenty of guys with ugly mechanics make shots in the NBA, especially bigs.
Honestly, I'd be surprised if Diakite had more than a cup of coffee in the NBA. He'll get a chance to show if he can block shots and hit threes consistently and provide niche value. But that will get flushed down the toilet when he consistently gets toasted on switches and gives up a ton of second chance points.

I'd take those two and Wiseman over Reed. I think Okongwu and Tillman have higher floors. Wiseman, has bust potential, but I think he's likely Hassan Whiteside, which makes him an average to above average NBA Starter.
Other than those 3, the only other bigs I consider in Reed's tier are Achiuwa and Jalen Smith. I exclude Patrick Williams because I look at him as a possible SF.
I watched the Villanova DePaul game this past year. Paul Reed was the best player on the court, including Saddiq Bey.

Re: Welcome Paul Reed
Think it is clear that he's a versatile defender (footspeed and hip flexibility worries me a bit), can rebound, run in transition and do some dirty work on the offensive end. So if he can physically hold up, there's a chance there are some limited minutes available as a small ball 5.
However, there might be more? Didn't know him very well, but after reading his background and looking at some condensed games, there is a slight chance he can transition into a big wing.
He does more off the dribble than I expected, has a relatively high USG%, shot a lot of midrange jumpers (decent amount of unassisted ones), shooting numbers are obviously not great, but offer some upside.
Low FTr is what scares me a bit, but I like the pick a lot.

Interesting looking shot, but can't argue with the results. Hope Reed can become a part of the rotation at some point. He was a great BE player.

Had a similar follow through like Nerlens’

I'm hoping we don't see a lot of Paul Reed pump-fake-dribble-to-the-left threes. Would be great if he could hit spot ups though.

Not everybody needs to have the picture perfect shot. If it goes in, that shot looks fine enough for a big.
always a jump shot away.

Really excited about this kid. Next Draymond except that shot looks even better!
Ideally he's our primary backup big by next season.

NBA star Paul Reed. I like his shot, I think he can be a volume 3 point shooter that hugs the line without gravity in Morey-ball. Similar to how teams treated Thybulle last year.
