Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 5
I 100% agree that KJ Martin could be that 5th starter in place of Oubre. KJ is only 23 years old with a lot of NBA experienced, but could have more upside. Hopefully his jumper has improved. He fits the profile as that energy player that they need, and allows Oubre to improved our bench unit. This is a huge opportunity for KJ. I would look at Council as a starter though I think KJ would fit better with the starters>
quote="76ciology"]Many view KJ Martin as a trade filler, but can he start for our team? Is there an "Aaron Gordon" to his defense and scoring? He shows potential as a rebounder, secondary rim protector, and versatile defender capable of guarding multiple positions. Additionally, his shooting is adequate enough that defenders can't just sag off him in the corner, where he shoots 40% on low volume.
To pace the game, I think he’d be fine starting, especially since we usually start strong and have enough talent with the big 3 and Oubre to mask KJ Martin’s deficiencies.

Off the bench, we’d have Eric Gordon, Ricky Council, and Caleb Martin playing back-ups for the 2-3-4 positions.
Lowry-Gordon-Council- Caleb Martin-Drummond
For finishing the game, we could deploy our version of a "death lineup" with Caleb Martin at the 2, Kelly Oubre at the 3, and Paul George at the 4.

Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 5
Here are some clips of KJ Martin. I think he had a rough year last season without a stable role on both the Clippers and the Sixers.
KJ Martin has the skills to be an effective rebounder, a versatile defender that can defend 1 to 5, provide some rim protection, finish at the rim, attack closeouts, score in transition, and shoot from the corner.
Looking at his numbers from his seasons with the Rockets, KJ Martin has shown the potential to make solid contributions. He can achieve a 10% total rebounding percentage, a 2% block percentage, a 1% steal percentage, a 30% three-point attempt rate, and shoot 40% on corner threes with an overall 35% three-point shooting percentage, similar to Kelly Oubre's performance.
A good plan would be to evaluate his performance after another offseason of improvement and with a clearly defined role on our team. And if we’re looking to trade him, then he can be our pump and dump project.

Don't disrespect Oubre as a starter ... He's better as a microwave off the bench because he's is a capable NBA 20pg and we need size and wings off bench too. We need good players off the bench too.
KJ Martin could flourish as Aaron Gordan type wing as starting 4 next to Embiid for sure. He's a decent rebounder.

I'm all about KJ having an increased role for us. I think Oubre is better suited to come off the bench.

Embiid can be your starting 5 to begin the game. Obviously KJ is the first sub out in place of Oubre, but it's not a bad look in my opinion, and if KJ can improve on that corner three, then it's a great fit. I just think our rebounding is still going to continue to suffer, but KJ Martin getting minutes helps negate that issue because he is an active player and a good rebounder for his size. His shooting is the only concern as far as role goes. You'd like him to be a respectable threat from beyond the arc. I don't think we brought him back with the idea of just letting him get paid to ride the bench. I think we're going to try and see if he fits and can contribute. If he can't, then he becomes a trade piece later on.

I watch almost every game of the Sixers. I do like KM jr, but I think you guys a way overboard. He’s a nice roll player. Not a starter!
He can’t shoot a lick outside of 6 feet. He is a decent enough defender, but in todays NBA a forward has to be able to shoot, at least decently!

I wouldn’t give Martin more than 8 mpg next year.

KJ Martin is not starting lol. He'll probably be the last guy off the bench, if he even plays. He flashed one play every month and can't shoot.

He will start opening day sure. But the love doesn't go on forever when everyone is reminded why he's a role player. Regardless of the haircut he took (which is either his agent's or his own fault). A bench with Oubre, C Martin, Gordon, Lowry, and Drummond would easily be the best bench of the Embiid era. So now Morey needs to go find at least another starter to make that happen.

Gary Trent to the Bucks one year deal. Not sure if it's the minimum or not. If not, Sixers couldn't have matched it obviously.

A chance to start at SG although I still don’t think Nick Nurse like his defensive effort lol. Bucks defense will still suck but they replaced the shooting of Beasley.

Gotta be. Bucks never cleared money to get a tax payer exception.

Or it’s very possible GTJ never considered coming here because of his relationship with Nurse.

KJ Martin averaged over 20 minutes per game last season, in games after late January.

I think it's just as possible the Sixers never considered him. No credible person ever tied him to the Sixers. It was all fake accounts.
Hopefully Lonnie Walker then.

That's a great pickup for the Bucks at the minimum. They always made more sense as a landing spot for him than us given the gigantic hole they have at the starting 2 spot. He might have started here.
