I've concluded that Embiid just isn't that guy. He'll never get us through a finish line and we totally missed our opportunity to sell high on him. It's a bitter pill to accept that reality.

You haven’t know that about Embiid since 2021? Thought we all did and we’re waiting on the right mix of talent around him.
Also thought we all were prepared to need a lot of luck with injuries and timing for this current team to come together and contend. Still feel like that’s the case, doesn’t bother me that so far they look like last years Embiid-less Sixers without both Embiid and PG.

I’m assuming Joel and PG should be good to go Wednesday vs Detroit?

I mean the departure of Tobias combined with the acquisitions of George, Drummond, Martin, etc had me feeling encouraged that we made enough happen to contend despite Joel's issues/concerns.... given what we had to work with.zaz102 wrote:So why were you ALL in on this season?ankle420breaker wrote:I have known since 2021. And it's worth noting I was all in before we extended him, before he announced he doesn't expect to ever play back-to-backs (detrimental to his value.... utterly idiotic thing to volunteer), and before the team dropped another eleventh hour surprise report on his health days before the opener.

So you are not ALL in because you think Embiid is cooked? Or you don't like the fact they are prioritizing playoffs over the regular season? Or just annoyed with the organization for being dumb with how they send these messages?ankle420breaker wrote:I mean the departure of Tobias combined with the acquisitions of George, Drummond, Martin, etc had me feeling encouraged that we made enough happen to contend despite Joel's issues/concerns.... given what we had to work with.zaz102 wrote:So why were you ALL in on this season?ankle420breaker wrote:I have known since 2021. Just seems weird to me to do a 180 when not much has changed or at least theres not a lot of information. For all we know, Embiid could play Wednensday and could look great.
I would get just being done with the team with constant confusing messages/mystery.

they aren't going to trade Biid. They weren't in the past. They aren't in the present. And they probably won't even be around to do so in the future.
Plus at any of these times the very moment you willingly put an MVP on the market everyone is going to wonder if he was/is/will be damaged goods regardless of if he said the not playing back to back thing (which IDK how that lowers his value as it seems to be the plan of our FO not some set in stone thing anyway)
If Biid is an albatross contract in the future...who gives a ****. Team isn't attracting FAs any way.
Just a weird thing to worry about imo.
The reality is that hoping for a miracle healthy run is still the better "plan" than rushing headfirst into a rebuild or more than likely happen back to be mid and hoping that for some reason a FA would come to a place that traded their MVP who wanted to be there for life...I am sure thats a great sell

Re: 2024-25 Philadelphia 76ers Check In Thread (Your Current Feel on the team)
I don't think it's a stretch to believe that this is not a championship contender short of the miracle of Embiid and George both remaining healthy and becoming playoff stalwarts. I was against the George signing for precisely this reason, and although I love Maxey and feel that Morey did an admirable job after the George signing of attempting to build a win-now roster (even if he blew the pick not taking a kid who might have helped this season), to seriously look at this as a team that will go through a playoff grind and win is close to fantasy land.
This won't be a popular opinion, and it has little chance of happening, but I would prefer to hold on to the more valuable picks we still own rather than waste them getting a player who isn't going to put us over the top with this group (Kuminga, Eason). If he can't get a decent addition using McCain and less valuable picks, I would rather sit tight and play it out with what we have, and assess after the season. It's all about Embiid and George being active and showing up in the post season anyway, and to flush the future completely makes little sense, but will almost certainly be what happens.

My current feel on the team is that it stands no chance of winning a championship as long as Embiid is its centerpiece.
And acquiring Paul George will make that issue worse, not better.

The Sixers have placed themselves behind the proverbial 8 ball with this horrid start.

Tobias turning into George, Drummond, Martin is still a very good haul that I would do every time. The Pistons will regret overpaying him like we did before this season ends.ankle420breaker wrote:I mean the departure of Tobias combined with the acquisitions of George, Drummond, Martin, etc had me feeling encouraged that we made enough happen to contend despite Joel's issues/concerns.... given what we had to work with.zaz102 wrote:So why were you ALL in on this season?ankle420breaker wrote:I have known since 2021. Is it me or does Morey's teams seem to shrink over time? Like, at the end of his Houston tenure, he had Robert Covington at center. Why do we have Reggie Jackson, Tyrese Maxey, Kyle Lowry, Jared McCain, and Eric Gordon all on the same team, often times with 3 on the court at the same time?

Honestly, I wouldn't mind Morey coming out of hiding to answer for whatever is going on.

the tune before the season was we turned Harden into George. I'm confused now we got in return from Harden.
Slowly our assets are dwindling away.

Re: 2024-25 Philadelphia 76ers Check In Thread (Your Current Feel on the team)
For me... all hope is gone right now. I thought we had a decent bench to go with 3 all-star level players, with one a former MVP. One all-star with a decent bench should have been a middle-of-the-road team. Two all-stars - a playoff team. Three all-stars - a contender.
What did we see instead? One all-star and now even two have been a disaster. Which means when Embiid comes back, we're going to be a playoff team - not a contender. It's not that I ever expected us to be the favorites, but I did think this team had a real shot this year. After this start, I expect another early exit. If Embiid is out long enough, we might not even make the playoffs. Pretty horrid.
I still expect us to have a good regular season stretch that makes us look like contenders and gets us into the playoffs. But if we end up as contenders by the end of all this I'll be very surprised.

A valuable pick, a valuable swap, and cap space to sign Paul George.

The good news is my tank brain is still alive and well and we'll get to see more Jared McCain. This is his Maxey 39pts vs Denver his rookie year moment.

To my point, the cap space angle is Tobias Harris. Did Tobias or Harden get us George? And we gave up a 1st (and other picks) to get Harden so seems like a net negative overall in managing assets over a 3 year period.
