How many times can we write passionate statements condemning moves we did/didn't make using speculative statements. I think everyone got carried away with the "insight" we actually have. I watch as much crappy YouTube video and read as many articles as anyone, but I don't fool myself into believing I know very much more than anyone else as a result.

I'm not saying the Sixers did an amazing job...but I'm
Not saying they didn't either. For all I know they got low balled on an Iggy deal and couldn't get one done without putting the team
In a worse position. Perhaps Vucevic is a stiff...or perhaps the many long-time basketball men who evaluated him in a real gym and met him in person know something we don't.

My point is, none of us really know, and when you make the jump fro
"I think" to "I know", your words seem petulant.

Sorry to piss anyone off. I just think we got a bid man with legit size and an under the basket game, which we needed...and a local kid who, if motivated, has a lot to offer. That's a pretty good haul in a weak draft. Nobody (including the team brass) REALLY knows how this will shake out.

I've been on this board a long time, though I don't post often. It just bums me out when what people think they know makes for contentious discussion.

I'm with you. I don't think we should totally dump on the draft just because the picks aren't "sexy" and lack huge upside. Doug Collins has my trust and I'm curious to see what he can do with these pieces.

I'm ok with that approach, but I don't like the idea of playing Turner at the SF spot...not his best matchup defensively.

We drafted a young big man which is what I wanted so I am happy with the pick.

Its starting to look like the sixers will be a bad defensive team next year with a bunch of slow big men and no Iguodala. We still need a shotblocker, pls tell the sixers are looking to pick up one?

Others may disagree, but I really think we're playing with fire if we let June 30th pass without making a deal. Honestly, if we do that, it should be because he's going to serve out the last 3 years of his contract here and you have made a decision to move Evan Turner, because ET will NOT reach his potential playing with Iggy. With lower max salaries, a tightening of the cap (whether a hard cap or a flex cap), and an ever-escalating contract, we are absolutely nuts if we think offers get better after the lockout.

People may debate over what his return should be, but I think come things we know: (1) either Iggy or Turner must be moved before next season (I can't stomach opposing SG/SF sagging 5 feet off of both of them on the perimeter) and (2) we desperately need a No. 1 scorer. So whether it's Kevin Martin, OJ Mayo, Monta Ellis, or whoever, this has to be addressed sooner rather than later even if it costs a future pick.

You have to wonder if Philly was really hoping that K. Benson would have lasted two more picks in the second round.

Patience man - It is better they make no move than make a bad move. Rushing a decision will not help us. Desperate teams don't win championships. Any move with Iggy needs to be strategic meaning the player(s) who come back have to fit with the team in terms of needs and culture. For example Monta Ellis doesn't fit what we need nor does Kaman nor does Odom. If we could get Martin or Granger now were talking good "fit".

"Good fit" with comparable value or no trade is the ONLY way to go here! Iggy is not a cancer, he is very good player. The only reason to trade him is the duplication of skills on the team combined with a need to fill some deficiencies.

Holiday, Turner, and Iguodala don't all need to be on the floor together too often.

Holiday(36) / Turner(12)
Meeks (24) / Turner(12)
Iguodala(38) / Turner(10)

We would need to trade Lou and get another shooter to fill in the remaining guard minutes. I think it could potentially work. It should be given a chance.

i liked our 1st rd pick last night. SF told us thats who they have wanted all along and I trust the pick because our track record isn't that bad there.

Them focusing on a scorer is the right move and im glad to hear thats the case. They are moving in the right direction imo

We all need to be prepared to wait because the lockout is def looming.

I cannot recall if it was Hoopsworld or Hoopshype, but I believe they are reporting that M. Ellis wants out of G.S. With the drafting of K. Thompson and the Iguodala situation still up in the air, I could see the Iguodala/Ellis rumor stay alive all the way through June 30th or until either guy is traded somewhere else first. Since I doubt the lockout is resolved by then however, talks will cease either way in 6 days.

I hear the patience idea and that sounds pretty good except when you are talking to a fan base of a team that has played in the conference finals (much less NBA finals) exactly one time in the last 25 years. We debated on this thread pretty intensely last season about NOT trading the No. 2 pick, and while it truly remains to be seen what Turner will become, I don't think anyone seriously contends we have a future 10-time all-star on our hands.

I really struggle with this Monta thing, probably to the point of anger with our front office. From a pure basketball value prospective, it is harder to find a plus 20 point guy who can get his shot guaranteed in the last 2 minutes of a game than it is to find a mulit-faceted wing guy who is a plus-defender/rebounder/passer but absolutely atrocious off-the-dribble and has idiotic shot selection in crunch time. Does that mean Iggy does not have some good value - no. But that means he does not have the value of the other guy, I can care less if he's 6' 2" in shoes. And don't get me started on the financial difference.

What I'm getting at is if the problem with this deal is Biedrins contract (which admittedly is not good), then dump Lou's contract back the other way (which btw, would wipe up all but $3 millon per year of the Biedrins deal for the next 2 years or $1 million LESS than we are holding for Hawes). But let's not act like this is working around the contract of Rashard Lewis, Gilbert Arenas or something.

And yet the Flyers can find a way to sign a goalie for $51 million......

I support not taking back the dead weight of Biedrins' contract. We aren't close enough to contending, even with Ellis that we need to eb swallowing bad contracts, at least not ones more than one year in length.

Ellis was offered around the league, presumably with Biedrins' attached, and there were no takers. They drafted a guy with size who plays Ellis' position and he reportedly wants out. He will likely be offered again, without Biedrins attached this time, and it sounds like the Sixers would go for that. No big names moved yet (Stephen Jackson used to be a semi-big name), so it isn't like we missed out on the trading season entirely. I still think there is an 80% chance or better that Iggy plays elsewhere next year, but patience is required to avoid losing your primary trade asset for nothing or taking back bad contracts.

Exactly. They tried to get AB to go in a deal with Ellis, now Ellis value went down because he is publicly saying he wants out. Now, we can probably get Ellis a lot cheaper.

Which pisses me the **** off, but that's a different story >_<

SF, Who else would be involved in the Kevin Martin deal? Maybe they can get a shot blocker out of it?
(Something like Martin and Thabeet for Igoudala and Speights)

Do you know if theres any truth to the rumors that we almost dealt Igoudala for the 2nd pick but fell apart when they made the final decision to part ways with Rambis?

Also, what are the odds Thad Young definitely comes back and what do you think the numbers will look like? In interviews it sounded like they wanted him back but would be willing to part ways if another team makes a sizable offer. Any idea what their breaking point would be?

Thanks for the insight?

Minnesota still needs a veteran on that team, especially one who can help Rubio. Iggy's D and passing would take some of the pressure off of Rubio. A combo of Iggy and Speights can bring back a young package of possibilities without Minnesota touching their base of Rubio, Love and Williams.

Wes Johnson and Motiejunas plus some combo of Randolph, Webster and Pekovic would be a nice catch of younger assets, most of whom are talented to a degree, but unproven. If they and Turner and Vucevic all bomb out, then we have a decent lottery pick next year and more easily movable pieces. If a number of them work out, then you have the real beginnings of a solid young core and a number of assets that might be packaged in the future for the right big name player.

Ellis is the more exciting player, though you need to specially build the team around him a bit like you did with Iverson. He probably gets us to the second round if Turner pans out, but farther than that I am not sure.

No interest from Minny without Love or Williams. I think Wes Johnson is over rated

I like working with Minnesota. They have okay assets and a Front Office that is actually dumber than ours.

Assuming there is only a short lockout (big assumption) this is the time to fully commit to the youth movement. if we trade igudoala for youth and 1-2 guys step up and we get back to the playoffs on the strength of our youth, thats great. If we bomb out, again, and suck the upcoming draft is historic and the following draft is the Andre Drummond draft.
They say an analytics man doesn't have a heart, but I ran the numbers and nothing can be further from the truth - Sam Hinkie probably

I would think if a Kevin Martin for Iggy deal were to go down, the Sixers would be giving more than receiving. Iggy, Speights, future 2nd rounder, maybe take on a bad contract and give up Nocioni in return. Something along those lines.

Kevin Martin is a good player, but he's just a slightly better fitting status quo move. By the time the rest are ready for prime time his contract will be up and he will be past his prime, and in the meantime it keeps us with middling draft picks in the late teens to fight about.

Return to Philadelphia 76ers
