Trading for Zach Lavine would be the equivalent of re-signing Tobias Harris to a max contract for four more years. I will explode with anger if we trade for him. There is just no way Morey is that short-sighted as a GM. Lavine isn't even a Morey type of player. We just escaped both James Harden and PJ Tucker and came out of it somehow better off. Trading for Lavine would put us right back in to cap hell again with no future.

I would do Ben Simmons for Tobias straight up. Rely on oubre to pick up scoring.

Even I'm not going that far.

Agreed. I really hope the Shams report isn't true because if it is, and it's between us vs. the Lakers for LaVine, we're essentially bidding against ourselves since the Lakers lack the trade assets that we have.
I get that we need another iso scorer vs. a team like Boston in the playoffs but with the trade deadline still a little less than 2 months away, Morey needs to hold out and see who else might become available then before he wastes all of our assets on LaVine.

I think Morey has a plan and it's much broader than Zach Lavine. Despite being a gifted scorer, Zach Lavine strikes me as the type to wilt in a playoff situation the same way Tobias Harris wilts. I just don't see him being worth our future of freedom. The expectations would be for him to perform like a star player and in the playoffs, he'd have to do it. Unless Morey thinks he can get it done in a playoff setting, then I don't see any way we would move for him.
Truthfully I think a classy, disciplined team like the Boston Celtics would shut him down in a playoff series.

It’s a Jerry Reinsdorf owned team so don’t assume the Bulls are going to want future picks to rebuild. Wouldn’t shock me if they make a dumb trade where they take back DLo and Rui or something like that.
The report was that they are far apart…but it still makes absolutely 0 sense for a team like the Bulls to even try to negotiate an extension with DeRozan. Reinsdorf is the exact type of owner that is happy to stay mediocre and somewhat relevant enough to profit.

Nah sounds exactly like a situation that they would want Tobias and then extend him to me. Definition of mid

Martin has a serious injury, no? And even if he didn't, does he get any run on this team? Much rather keep BBall.

LaVine has talent and an offensive skillset that would in theory be useful as the 3rd guy playing off of Maxey/Embiid as a secondary ball handler/shooter/guy that can attack a closeout.
My main thing is... If he's scoring like 18 ppg (don't know anyone is giving you much more than that next with Embiid/Maxey as the focal points), what else is he bringing to the table to impact games?
I think he'd help the team in general, but if you're paying a guy that type of money, I think it needs to be someone that makes more of an impact as a complementary piece to those guys.
Too much of a defensive liability, too many record scratch plays on offense.
Maybe there's a price point that would allow you to make another move (preferably for a cost controlled, impact defender) that makes you pull the trigger though.
Like, does getting Caruso included do enough to make up for his shortcomings/salary enough to consider?

I was literally just watching highlights of both of these guys and starting to re-think my stance of Jerami after the initial sticker shock of his new deal.
Honestly, I think both would fit great into Nurse's offensive system. Compared to Tobias, Jerami just looks so much more decisive and willing to shoot off the catch. If you could scale down his offensive creation possessions and have him focus more on catch and shoot/attacking closeouts, there's potential for getting more out of him defensively (again, particularly for Nurse, with his length and athleticism giving him the ability to cover a lot of ground).
Brogdon's fit is obvious if he can stay healthy. I imagine he'd come off the bench to limit his minutes.

Would like to see some version of a deal like this proposed on the main board.

I don’t see the attraction for the Sixers. Are you just trying to replace last years worst NBA contract (Harris) with this years worst ( Grant). There’s no way the Sixers even consider this.

Yesterday's price is not today's price.
I'd be hesitant to add Grant's contract as well, but that deal may not look so bad after next summer, with the league looking at large influx of money over the next few years.
The on court attraction should be obvious, particularly in comparison to Tobias. He a big, long wing with defensive ability that's shooting over 40% from 3 on good volume, and has added quite a bit to his overall offensive game over the years.

His highest year of that deal isnt even as high as Tobias’s cap figure this year and the cap will continue to rise every year. He’s also shot 39 percent on 6 attempts from 3 over the last 4 seasons so the shot and volume is real. Couple that with him having already shown what he can do in a more super role player type role and the fit is very good

I'm not a huge fan of Grant but how much better do we think OG will be over the next 4 years? Seems neglibible.

Re: Fantasy Trade Thread
You could also leave out the Brogdon part, and still have the option to have a pretty large chunk of cap space if you let guys walk in the off-season. In which case maybe you use Morris/Kork/House as the matching salary and keep Harris...
Maxey
Melton
Harris
Grant
Embiid
With Batum, Oubre, Beverley, Reed, Covington off the bench
Maxey/Embiid lineup staggers of:
Maxey/Oubre/Covington/Harris/Reed
Beverley/Melton/Batum/Grant/Embiid
Maxey

Maxey/Oubre/Covington/Harris/Reed
Beverley/Melton/Batum/Grant/Embiid

Re: Fantasy Trade Thread
I’d be on board to swap Tobi for Grant. His deal honestly isn’t that bad. I think his max cap figure is $36M in 2028 which isn’t that bad when the cap is $170M+. It’s be the equivalent of $26M-$28M right now.
He’s just a better player. Tobias has the lowest bball IQ on the team & his processing speed is Windows 95 level. We need someone who’s a more willing shooter, knows when to cut or attack a close out, and has some athleticism to hang with Boston.

I agree Harris is a bad fit here and needs to be moved for a better more athletic wing/ forward.
