Embiid needs to work on his core if he wants stability and strength. Squats and deadlifts are virtually useless for that. He needs to spend more time doing yoga and Pilates and doing crunches in the gym... and get himself a Bosu ball to help with his balance. It will work on the muscles you need and help him 1000 times more than doing squats and deadlifts.

Bosu balls suck. Strong cores is how guys can squat and deadlift 400+kg. If it weren't for strong cores, the lumbar would collapse under load. Proper breathing techniques like the valsalva manoeuvre uses the abdomin and pelvic floor to brace against.

You guys are both wrong. The best exercise for a strong core is to make love. Thats why Wilt was dominant.

This is the wrongest wrong that's ever wronged. Squats and deadlifts do a ton for your core. Obviously your upper back is balancing the bar. Your abs and lower back are used as stabilizers during a squat. They are tight and braced the entire time. The tighter your core the more weight you can move (generally). That's the whole point of a weight belt. It gives yous something to brace against, allowing you to get tighter/more stable, thus allowing you to lift more weight in a perfect world.
Deadlift works the same way. your core is working isometrically to stabilize your spine as it fights to remain neutral versus a bunch of weight and gravity.
Those are full body exercises. If you have a weakness, in this instance abs, your progress will come to a screeching halt. Particularly in the case of a front squat.

So, that is absolutely lethal. He did it in the Tatum video too iirc. Jab to one side, drive to the opposite and then its BBQ chicken at the basket.

I'm hoping his defensive intensity and speed on the perimeter picks back up this year. There was a noticeable difference from his rookie year to last year.

I know a very successful businessman who was having sex at least once a day (lunch time and/or after work) five times a week. Had an addiction to it. He never saw it that way. Went from flabby to ripped. No long lunches. He had to get a gym membership so his wife wouldn't catch on. Anyway, about the gym, straight arm deadlifts and squats are good for your core if you activate your ab muscles while doing them. Combining with Bosu is good. Planks on the bosu are good, for example.

Too big. Too strong. Handle too good, and first step too quick.

How is that defended by one person?

You would need help to try to strip on the drive, or force a charge on the spin. If no help comes then you need someone strong to be able to push him back, and longer to be able to block the dunk, without fouling that is.

It is basically a lesson to opposing defensive coaches to employ a strategy of denying him the ball, and doubling as soon as he gets it. If anyone speaks up in a locker room and argues that he should be defended by one person you show them this video.

Of course, if someone is big and long enough to defend it, then Joel just jab steps and shoots a jumper or maybe does a step back jumper.

I honestly think he's going to contend for the MVP this year. He was the best center in the league with 0 team continuity, no summer development, no refined go to moves, coming off an injury, and with hilariously inexperienced teammates. All of that is flipped this year and he's going to rip the league a new one.

Al Horford and the man bun guy (Baines?) did an awesome job in the playoffs against JoJo. Forced him to catch the ball in bad positions off the block. Didn't double team him, just let him iso and try to hit contested mid range floaters or turn the ball over.

JoJo needs to watch that Celtics series on repeat all summer and learn from his mistakes.

JoJo was a 3.1 BPM player last year, however, his OBPM was 0.0 and DBPM was 3.1; his TS% was only 56.6% (62nd) with high turnover% - he is showing flashes of greatness, but still has a ways to go to be a consistent offensive force.

The Boston series had him rusty and with a face mask on too. Let’s not forget that. If he was healthy and rolling it would be a different story.

Plus his fitness level wasn’t high enough. Part of their strategy was to just tire him out, and that is something that he needs to work hard to prevent this year.

Exactly. That is what im pointing out.

Celts won every possession on D as soon as we started to have a possession of ISO BIID.

He needs BIG WORK to lower his TO% and improve his TS%.

The way to solve this is by limiting ISO BIID vs bigs and increase PnR to increase volume of ISO BIID on mismatches.

ISO BIID vs Bigs should mostly be on high post on a shoot it or fake then drive attempts.

And its not just the Celts series. He wasnt that great in regular season relative to the top offensive players (who we want him to be).

Good news is I think Biid/Fultz two man game will be so lethal and open things up for both guys

Sounds all great and wonderful in your head.

Now your going to have to sell that to Brett 'motion offense with no dribbling allowed' Brown.

Good luck, if you can do that I'm sure you can also sell some beach front property in Kansas....

He will adjust. Brad Stevens started that way also and he learned it eventually.

The game is read and react, players AND coaches should adjust. Not the same animal every game amd every opponent. A stat shouldn't be generalized for its relative to situation and opponent

I don't mind Iso Biid plays. Just get him away from the 3 point line unless he's trailing on the break. Also, coach that staredown pull-up jumper he does, when someone sags off him, out of his game.

Eliminating those plays will get his true shooting over 60%.
