I'd like to keep Batum and Covington and not use them as salary ballast in a trade. What does Morris make? If we can upgrade him that would be ideal.

He's only owed $22.5m next season so we can still target a max FA next summer if we get him.
This assumes he's healthy though. Don't know what's up with his elbow which nixed him from the Porzingis trade. And he hurt his hammy last night also.
Love Brogdon and he'd be a really good piece to add offensively. Not so sure about the other end after watching us target him constantly, but he certainly checks the box of a quality creator that can shoot off ball, and the willingness to come off the bench is nice in terms of ego.

Morris and trade exemption (i read its 9M not sure if true) equals Jerami Grant
Morris equals OG Anunoby
Melton and trade exemption equals OG Anunoby

Can't combine trade exemption with a player to match salary.

Marcus Morris, DeAnthony Melton and second rounders for Jordan Clarkson.
Clarkson shed 9M of his salary from 23M this season to 14M only next season.
Marcus Morris, 2016 OKC 1st and 2028 Sixers pick swap option for Marcus Smart.

Having actual length on the court is such a game changer, agree that we should keep Batum / Cov. The team has a nice vibe right now.
Package Morris + picks, keep the "core" intact and let's make a fun little run.

Technically he was the system since we changed the defense to switch every time there was a screen so Harden wouldn't have to ever fight to stay with his man. Probably why every team has 5-10 wide open threes on us every game.

It would be hilarious if we get the Process team back together to win the chip. RoCo, Grant, drop Bamba for Nerlens. Swing a deal for The Homie, and our team is complete.

We need one more PG to bring the ball up the court. TJ can't be that hard to reacquire.

We already have 4 6ft guards in the rotation

Re: 76ers 2023-24 Season Thread Part 1
One player I’m passively monitoring is Josh Giddey. I’m intrigued by the idea of a Maxey/Giddey backcourt because of Giddey’s size & passing ability. Unfortunately I think his shot is just broken & he’s not a good defensive player so he’s more of a theoretical difference maker than an actual one.
He’s the odd man out in OKC tho & I think they probably look to move off him starting next summer.

I think if you add Marcus Smart it results in a quantum leap in this team's spirit and intensity. That's the kind of "heart and soul" player that would round this team out very nicely, and at a position of need.

Marcus Smart or a relentless sniper like Bojan Bogdanovic or OG or someone else that was mentioned. I don't think we need a third "star".

Smart would be an excellent backcourt mate with Maxey.

Smart would get in Jo's ear like PJ, but he's actually good. Also the flop reels would be next level. It would make the GB's have a group brain aneurysm.

Yeah Marcus Smart would definitely fit the bill. It remains to be seen just how bad the Grizzlies are going to be this year. If they tank the season and suck, I guess he could be gone by the deadline.

He was short lived here, but another guy I wouldn’t mind bringing back Alec Burks. He’d be a pretty nice short term band aid to pair with Melton next to Maxey until something bigger happens.
