The Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday told Simmons that he would be the No. 1 overall draft pick, according to multiple reports. The premium cabler has been quietly chronicling Simmons for the past two years. And the documentary will heavily focus on Simmons time at Louisiana State University, where he played his one and done year in order to satisfy a rule regulating eligibility for the NBA Draft. But the film also will include his childhood in Australia, high school in America and the influence of his family, especially father David Simmons, a New York City native who played 13 professional seasons in the Australian National Basketball League.
The film, said Showtime Sports chief Stephen Espinoza, "chronicles a unique and pivotal period in a young man’s life. Over the last year, as Ben Simmons has transitioned from teenager to young adult, he has also transitioned from the relative anonymity of a supremely talented high school player to the national and international limelight of the exclusive fraternity of top NBA draft picks. Ben Simmons is navigating a path that, although dreamt of and aspired to for a lifetime, remains uncertain."
The film also will explore the NBA's still controversial one and done rule, which was instituted in 2006 and requires high school players to be one year removed from graduation in order to be eligible for the draft.
