You aren't going to build a perfect team overnight.
To me, Gordon is a no brainer. A team with Wiggins/Gordon/Noel/MCW has ridiculous length, athleticism and lock down defender potential for 4 of the 5 players on the court.
I want this team to have an identity. Incredible defensive/rebounding/ and a star in Wiggins is an excellent start.
You still have cap space and 2nd round picks to look for some pure shooters who can come in here and try to balance things out.
Poor mans Rodman is an interesting comparison for Gordon. It makes a lot of sense and I had never really considered it before.

Re: 2013-2014 College Basketball / '14 NBA Draft Thread
One of the things I really like about the top of this draft is that I have not yet heard of any players with work ethic issues. Some might need to add muscle, slim down, add or develop jump shots, work on their handles, etc, but pretty much all of them seem like really solid kids who will work on their games. I know people will jump on Smart for the incident with the fan, but that seemed like more of a frustration thing. I'm glad we aren't having to decide whether or not to pick a player who is talented, but also a headcase, at least not with our top pick. No Boogie Cousins near the top of the draft board...with the caveat that most people would not have had a bad mark against Len Bias prior to his being drafted either. Damn, the story of that kid makes me sad every time I think of it.

im all for bpa but you gotta draw the line somewhere. if we draft exum with out pick you cant go picking ennis with the pelicans pick than payton with our 2nd rounder lol
I'm sure teams adjust for that. If we can get Marcus Smart with the Pelicans pick, that might be a huge steal for all the other teams; but for us, it would be where we ranked him since PGs aren't that big of a priority. I'm sure need comes into factor somewhat when teams make their big board.

Did any of you watch McAdoo he has a TERRIBLE all around game...He excels at nothing...He has regressed every year he has been at UNC to the point the fans are cheering that he is simply just leaving the team...

That's not true he has improved every year. Just never lived up to his hype from high school

I have watched just about every game of his. I did not see the improvement...Im sorry...Hes a poor defender...has a very low basketball IQ...He is an atrocious free throw shooter (huge liability there)...He is an erratic shooter....I think you can find much better prospects than McAdoo.
He is only being mentioned because of his name IMO

He's not a terrible college player. He just isn't worth drafting in the top 40 picks.

If Smarts avail with the Pelicans pick, I take him without hesitation.
I dont necessarily have Smart pegged in as a PG at the next level. Sure he could play it, but think he could just as easily be a SG.

And that is why I think he would be a good fit for you guys, Wiggins and Smart, along with Noel and MCW, that's one hell of a long disruptive team right there.

If Marcus Smart falls to the Pelicans pick, I'll be ecstatic. I actually think the 76ers would be the perfect fit for Smart's transition into the NBA. He wouldn't have to be the primary ball handler. He would be a rich man's version of Tony Wroten at first, but if he is going to be a star in two years.

If we can't get Embidd we should focus on solidifying our backcourt and wing position. I think next years class of bigs will be better prospects then Randle , Gordon and Vonleh. I see better , longer and potentially more skilled legit big man prospects like Turner, Okafor, Lee and many others who could solidify the front court next year once Thaddues Youngs off the books.
Wiggins, Parker, Smart, Exum should be attained with our first pick and a wing compliment with the Pelicans pick. The guards - wings are very talented in this draft!! Solid potential stars and starters.
Randle and Gordon size isn't all impressive at the 4 . Vonleh type big can be acquired in next years lottery for sure.
The guards like Selden, Glen Robinson III and many others will be solid but nothing special in my opinion next year.

I agree that Smart can play both guard positions and contribute on both ends of the floor. He could be a modern day Fat Lever. He is very emotional on the floor and BB has said he likes that kind of player. Wiggins doesn't have the same presence on the floor but I don't mean to imply he is any less competitive.
“This may be one of the best jobs in basketball right now,” Colangelo said at a press conference introducing him as the new GM of the 76ers after Sam Hinkie resigned.

So, about Detroit... Looks like they'll keep their pick at #8. IMO, they need a PG bad. Exum will be gone leaving Smart and Ennis (and MCW). Actually, Sacremento could also use an upgrade at PG too. The Lakers also like Exum.
Hinkie has a lot to work with. Seems like whatever slots we end up with on May 20th will certainly get shuffled.
I suppose the Celtics can deal Rondo too.

I've been checking out Zach Lavine out and wow he has the makings of a athletic Kevin Martin type 2guard. He is a amazing 2 guard prospect at the next level.

Marcus Smart could very well be one of Hinkie's guys. He has that very high steal rate thing going for him.
It's pretty clear what Hinkie is trying to build here especially defensively. He drafted 3 guys with very high steals rates. He's said that rim protection is at a premium in the NBA today. He reportedly would like to keep Thad who is 3rd in the league in steals.
It would not surprise me if in this draft we somehow get Embiid and Smart. It would give us two guards who have a nose for the ball. A front court with two rim protecting bigs, who are also agile and athletic enough to get up and down the floor. People talk about the concerns of Embiid and Noel fitting together because of their similarity but maybe that could be by design. Having two positional players that mirror each other. Same with Smart and MCW.
PG: MCW
SG: Smart
SF: Thad
PF: Noel
C: Embiid
