There is a thread named "Great Read on Sixer Chemistry" out there which linked to this nice article.

That's a good sign. Thaddeus Young made a nice jump from the perimeter in Year 2 after working with Price last summer.

Re: Tom Moore 2.0
This Stefansky really sucks. He has not made one move with this club that has worked out. A lot of Sixers fans were up in arms over the job that Billy King did, however it is Billy Kings blue print that allowed us to be in a position to sign a marquee free agent last season. Which Stefansky screwed up, and instead of taking the blame he fires our coach for not being able to incoporate his slow injury prone power forward with our young grey hounds. He overpaid for Igoudalla (But all that is reported is how bad Dalemberts contract is.) Now he doesnt want to give Andre Miller an extension If this is the case he should have traded him when his demand was high. Now we get nothing of any value for Miller. I am really surprised that more people are not calling for his head. A gm is supposed to come in with a plan. And try to execute it. (Like Donnie Walsh in NY). Stefansky has not set a firm direction for this club. He really appears to be overmatched. The media is giving him a passs for some reason. HIs job rating to me is unsatisfactory...

Welcome to the board.
I'm not as down on ES as you are. But I do think there's a good chance that a combination of the Brand signing and the economy (lower cap) will be ES's downfall. I do understand what ES was trying to do, and hope Brand will return to form. But regardless, that escalating contract with a decreasing cap could lock this team into mediocrity for years.

Thanks for the welcome Tk76.. I just dont like the job he is doing. He has not made smart personell decisions.. If you want to take the next step (someone from the young core will have to be traded for veteran support) The celtics took that route and won the title. What are we waiting for? It will be years before this young core can really compete.

I don't know man, what the Cletics did seemed like a once in a lifetime thing to me. If they mess with our young core we may be waiting even longer to compete.

The Miami Herald reports that while Allen Iverson wants a one-year contract for the full $5.8 million mid-level exception, the Heat are "reluctant to pay him much more than $2 million."

lol. Poor Dre... Bad market.
It's time to jazz with Hayward and Favors!

Northsidebigguy, Ed took over in 2008 in what appeared to be an exciting off season. After Ed bombed out in free agency, everybody on the 76ers website is looking to 2011 free agency. If that fails they will be talking about 2015 free agency. I want to see Ed sign Van Wafer, but does Ed have what it takes to sign him?
Since most fans are leaning toward 2011 I think I will tell the 76ers that maybe I will buy some tickets in 2011 if the 76ers don't bungle free agency again. Ed Stefanski love his OTB,lol. Maybe he knows more about horses than hoops.

Re: Tom Moore 2.0
If we want to win games and make the playoffs next season, I would offer AI $4 million for one year.
Hell - the added gate he would bring would probably cover most of it.
(unless you think that Steve Blake, Chris Duhon or TJ Ford would sell tickets)
It's like those Pepsi Max commercials...
WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!

its good to see i am not the only one that thinks Stefanski dosnt know what he is doing
this guy is clueless and running this team to the ground.
he didnt do anything good(anyone can over pay Iguodala and sign the best free agent on the market)
the handling of the Miller situation from the start of last year has been a disaster and one of the worse jobs i ever saw a GM do.

The escalating contracts Tk refers to really bites us, but as I said before "Does anyone foresee difficult NBA cap?". Especially with David Stern lying out of his teeth and saying "The NBA is alright", alright my ass!

Re: Tom Moore 2.0
They need a proven big-man's coach to work with Speights and Smith as well as Sam and even EB to get them in sync. Smith's at the shooting camp, but he and Seights need to get a ton of inside work this summer. Also remember that Smith and Brand are coming off a long layoff. They need strength and conditioning work to get in shape. Speights had the rap coming out of college to be lazy and out of shape. This is shaping up to be a long year.

Sounds like not much going on with Miller. Sixers appear to be waiting to see if a sign-and-trade pops up that would benefit them.

Tom,
It seems to me that the Sixers are willing to let Miller walk and just hand over the team to LouWils/Jrue Holiday PG combo. My question is what made them think that they will be successful this coming season with those two at the helm?

As I said, the intangibles that these two bring. Jrue brings ballhandling, speed, defense. Lou brings scoring. These two for 15-20 MPG a night a piece is a decent rotation.

Way to be proactive Ed. Nothing like the old "read and react" defensive approach to free agency.

I think the Sixers want to find out what they have. Is Williams a starter in this league or a third guard? Is he a 1 or 2 (I'd say a 2 with the body of a 1)? How much can Holiday contribute right away? If Miller is back, they still won't know. They also plan to sign a veteran backup for spot duty at the point.

Tom,
Thanks for the response, maybe you can help out Stefanski figuring things out with his own team. We all know Lou's not a PG, we all know Jrue won't be consistent this being his rookie season. Also, this would put more pressure on the vet PG, so basically if we are relying on these 3 players we're in trouble.

This Miller-less approach could also lower expectations and buy more time for management/coaches. Just a thought.

Re: Tom Moore 2.0
Well that sucks. I'm not very judgmental of Ed because I think he's done a pretty solid job except for this one issue that keeps pissing me off. The time to find out what Lou could do was around Christmas last year when Brand went down. It should have been Lou/AI/Thad/Speights/sam the rest of the way.
If you have an inkling that Lou will could be a starting level PG why wait for next season? Why wait when the games count? He had 40 odd games to test out Lou and no one would have judged his decision but Ed passed. If Lou works out perhaps we take someone other than Holiday (doubtful)? If you swallow your pride and chalk up the season as a lost cause you are MILES ahead when it comes to planning for the future of this team. You get value for Miller. You know if Lou can play point. You know if Iguodala is capable of playing the 2 (he has w/ KK but still). You give Speights some additional run. I know the playoff experience was great for iguodala and good for everyone else but I don't know if it outweighs all this.
I like Ed and think he's done a pretty solid job but his plan at pg was a poor one.

They say an analytics man doesn't have a heart, but I ran the numbers and nothing can be further from the truth - Sam Hinkie probably
