Re: 2016-2017 College Basketball / '17 NBA Draft Thread
I'm not a huge college basketball fan, I don't know much about Bridges. I never knew a ton about Lavine. My only real point is personally I would prefer to gamble with a lottery pick, especially a mid-late lottery pick.
The names thrown out as comparisons just made me think of a good role player.
As far as how I perceive upside, maybe I am off on that, that's a different discussion.

Right, but retroactively they are good role players. Otto Porter was drafted 3rd after being the Big East POY and having ridiculous measurables.
Carroll was certainly destined to be a role player if he was to even make it in the NBA.
Trevor Ariza left after one year, but the draft, and analytics, have certainly changed since 2004. I do believe he would have been drafted higher with his numbers and measurements.
I'm not saying we take him with our pick, but I'm saying he's definitely worth keeping an eye on with perhaps the Lakers pick depending on how far it falls.

He, and Villanova, are playing now. Playing very sound defense and made a few winning plays (OReb, steal in transition). He airballed a contested 3, but crossed his dude up and finished on the next possession. Needs to clean up his handle a bit and make a few adjustments to his shooting form, but he looks damn good. If nothing else, you can rely on him on defense.

I'm DVRing it. Gonna have to watch it later on. I'm looking forward to getting a look at St. Joe Prep alum Steve Vasturia. Pretty good senior 2-way SG with nice size.

The gleam on Fox is beginning to wear off. He started the season 21/21 from the FT line but has regressed to 72%, while his 3P% has remained atrocious. He's looking more and more like an Elfrid Payton clone.

Do people here agree with the idea it being a deep draft? Particularly in the lottery? I know it's still way early.

Still early, but yeah, I maintain that's fair.

Of course we all want BC to do well in a trade with one of the bigs, but that is going to be peanuts compared to how he handles this draft. Especially if he gets our pick and the Lakers pick ends up 6-8 ish.

Mikal Bridges compares very favorably to those guys. I feel he's a lock to be a starter for a contending team. Hell, if he bulks up to the 220 range, he might even be the next Battier.
The bad organizations that pick in the lottery are usually too focused on finding a #1 or #2 scoring option or a big, so Bridges might slide to the late lotto or even the 20s.
I would be ecstatic if we were able to get our hands on him with the Lakers pick.
One thing to consider is everyone on that list besides Carroll has at least a 3 inch wingspan on him. Carroll is similar.

Gotta wait for the combine to get an accurate gauge on his length. He's grown significantly since that LeBron basketball camp in 2013 where his wingspan was recorded.
Wait, did you look up the right player? Bridges recorded a 7 foot wingspan even back then. We're talking about Mikal Bridges from Villanova, not Miles Bridges from Michigan State.

Sixers in such a great spot in this draft. Depending on the lotto shakes out, could have our own home grown big 3.

Draftexpress has a 6 8.75 from 2016 and a 6 8.5 from 2015... ?
I've had a couple beers already, I could be looking at something wrong.

That's Miles Bridges. We're talking about Mikal.
This dude has a 7+ foot wingspan.

Damn, Jayson Tatum is looking NICE. Not so fast, Fultz, Jackson, Ball, Isaac. A new contender for #1 emerges.

I'm perfectly fine making fun of myself when the time is right, and this is one of those times.

Where would you rank a freshman Simmons from this point of last year with this draft class, roughly?
