I would be shocked at this point if he played in summer league.

Re: Uh oh, Embiid suffers setback per Woj
How many doctors does it take? Lol. Why do I keep hearing about Sat night, even Bob Cooney admitted he got a text Friday to check on Embiid, of course his questions weren't answered until someone leaked this whole thing to Woj, then the Sixers put out a release.
This isn't nuclear bomb launch codes, it's a Sixer for gods sake.
I really hope they learned from Bynum and aren't stringing along ticket holders.

Re: Uh oh, Embiid suffers setback per Woj
So in layman's terms, nothing's changed except he didn't hit some healing bench mark they set for him. All the weeks of increased activity without any pain are indicative of where he's at. They're just being super duper cautious, which is the way to go, obviously. We're just all pretty shell shocked after the Bynum experience, which is pretty understandable.

Re: Uh oh, Embiid suffers setback per Woj
The way I see it is that Embiid has a little over four months to get 100% healthy give or take a few weeks. Sure it would have been great to see him get some experience in Summer League and pre-season but at the same time it's not worth the risk of him re-injuring his foot. If he doesn't play the majority of the season however, then it may be time to move in a different direction.

On the other hand, why would they let 3 of the best doctors worldwide check up on him if there was nothing going on?
I don't know what to think man.

Reasoning they gave to see more doctors is the continual focus on the long game...

To me, there is only one explanation. He's fine, he's practicing and not feeling any pain. Yet the bone still has not fully calcified and healed though, again, that hasn't caused him pain or prevented him from practicing. So they are probably bringing in three experts to get the widest range of possible opinions on two questions: 1) is there anything else we can to do to get the bone all the way healed; and 2) if not, what kind of risks are we taking in letting him play if this is the best it is going to get and is there anything we can do to minimize them.

the plan is to get as good as quickly as possible....I fully believe we could have been a borderline playoff team last year by adding young veterans....using or draft picks and cap space.....can I specifically tell you who? no.

I think they just want to hear from different expert doctors to see if they all say the same thing or if they differ. If you have 3 experts saying the same thing then that would be a good thing and you probably do what they say. If you have all 3 saying something else then you probably consult with all of them together to understand why one says one thing and another something else and the 3rd something else. The more experts you have in agreement then the better you feel you are doing the right thing.

Yeah when I broke my hand last year, the xray from 2 months later still showed some light between the cracks, even though I'd been cleared for a month at that point. I'd be curious to see what it looks like now. My sense is that this is something along those lines. Ofcourse we're talking about a weight bearing bone and it's been over a year....but my guess is this is all in the name of abundance of caution.

I hope that he has stopped practicing while they are going through this process.

Re: Uh oh, Embiid suffers setback per Woj
The biggest issue is how and when the bone will be fully healed enough to remain stable and able to take the kind of pounding a large man playing in the NBA can put on it. They want a permanent fix, not an unstable one. Reading an X-ray and other imaging scans can be as much art form as science and leaves plenty of room for disagreement and second opinions, especially when we are talking about what is probably a mostly, but not quite fully healed fracture.
I still wonder if this is in part from his body not being fully mature, including the back stress fracture he had last year. There is still far from a guarantee either way, but the way they are treating him is appropriate as a long term piece and a guy with a career at stake.
The stringing people along like Bynum thing would make a lot more sense if people were actually buying tickets to see the Sixers now. They have sacrificed short term ticket sales in favor of long term increases both at the box office and franchise value/health. Lying about something now would trick about ten season ticket holders? The whole stealth thing until all data is analyzed is simply Hinkie's way, for better or worse.
