Those numbers are not to be ignored, certainly. However, without D'Angelo Russell, lesser talented players have to play more minutes and be used more, which likely hurts their efficiency rate, while also playing much more often against starting caliber players, which will affect the team ratings.
It's one thing if you compare Okafor's numbers as a starter versus Richaun Holmes numbers as a starter with basically the same other four. I'm not sure whether you can analyze DRussell versus Clarkson or Nwaba so cleanly.
Then there's his 'correct' position. I think the Lakers played much better once they put D'Angelo at the two, and I think they realize that as well, which is why they are hyped on Lonzo Ball or DeAaron Fox.
