Re: Trade Deadline Rumors Thread
The Sixers are in a position where they can let young guys grow over the next few years while older players come off the books and get cap room, or they can package some young guys in deals for established players down the road. They should not blow this position on a panic trade that adds an overpaid player that might upgrade you a bit now, but not get you any closer to the goal of winning a title.

Why does Rudy Gay turn you on yet Danny Granger doesn't? The type of skills that Granger has are more of a need than what Gay brings to the table. And not to sound like a douche or anything but I really can't stand the guys last name.
The names that come to mind in this debate are
Ellis- probably too costly
Harden- OKC gonna have a hard time paying him but I still don't think they F with winning right now
Granger- I think he's attainable and we could get him without giving up Jrue, Iguodala, or Thad
Gay- why? Memphis isn't dealing him
OJ Mayo- thats another name to think of...Really it is..He's a scorer right?
These are just names I am gathering in regards to....."Drumroll" EVAN TURNER!!!
I'm a bit biased towards Rudy so I'm not going to say he's the best option there. But he's the youngest of the group (I think?) and He and Iggy are actually close friends and complement each others games really well. Of course I doubt he's actually on the table. Neither is Harden.
So in the end it's really just Ellis ( I'd do it..I guess but we gotta keep Iggy to make up for the lack of D from Ellis), Granger(I'd want to keey Iggy here to but like you said I doubt he'd be available for just Turner and scraps) and Martin (just no...dude is good but doesn't change that much for us.. career loser too..not saying it's his fault but yeah worth noting).
I like OJ Mayo too but I'd rather trade Lou for him and free up some time for Mr. Everything. Mayo's ceiling is a 6th man basically...But is a name worth mentioning.
I'm just saying that if we want to make a tweak move you try to get a lesser known name in look of a new start like Beasley, Nick Young(also biased here...dude probably sucks really bad but the swag is undeniable...so much swag...lol) and such. Those guys can be had for an expiring, a pick and Brackins (does he still exist?). No need for a game changing trade in a shorten season that doesn't do much for us long term. And yet I don't think we should just stay put...so I'm torn.
I will say this I'm glad the guys mentioned are at least not ancient...lord knows we don't need another Webber type trade.
oh god did I just jinx it?

It is a tough balance...if a solid trade is available now, do you hold tight and bank on FA and the willingness of a 'star' to come to Philly?? The player you add now may be more valuable than what is obtainable in the offseason.

Re: Trade Deadline Rumors Thread
I like Beasley as well but we didn't have interest in him before when he was on his way out of Miami and I doubt we have a spot for him now. In fact I remember Miami asking us for basically Jason Kapono in exchange for Beasley and we didn't budge. So I rule him out as well.
Mayo is interesting because I have been hearing about him since 2004 and I don't think he's just a sixth man. I think he's starting material all day on another team.

OJ Mayo is that guy that you wonder if he could blossom into a really solid player on your team...but then when you get him you realize that he's just okay.
Still like I said i'd dangle Lou for him if only to give Mr. Everything some more clock.
I like OJ but he has stagnated something fierce since his rookie year

I agree but much like Evan Turner his situation in Memphis might be the circumstances he's facing. I would trade Turner for Mayo at this point if we are in fact "shopping" Turner.
Let me go on record and say that I don't want to see Turner go anywhere but I also can't stand to see his talent wasting away on the bench.

Re: Trade Deadline Rumors Thread
I think Turner for Mayo is too much of a lateral move. Mayo doesn't have the size of an SG (prototypical)...He's a better shooter, but a worse passer, and a worse defender. Actually isn't he putrid on defense? If Mayo doesn't show the things Collins needs to start he'll be relegated to the bench as well...

Re: Trade Deadline Rumors Thread
That's why Lou for Mayo would be awesome (for us...not too sure Memphis would like that trade).
Mayo would allow Turner to play the ball handler role for the Bench Unit and Mayo would be able to focus just on scoring (ala Lou).
Turner for Mayo is a worse trade because then we wouldn't have a back up swingman to spell Iggy.
Although you could argue that Lou for Mayo would be a lateral move as well. But Mayo is a year older than Turner and was a 18pts scorer IIRC his rookie year.
So maybe he's a guy that's ready to breakout?
I doubt we move Lou but the does have that almost was an all star thing going for him and if the bird is the word, he's looking for a starting gig soon anyway. I'm just spit balling of course but there are cheaper, younger and perhaps lesser known names out there like Mayo or Nick Young(lol) that you can take a flyer on and hope they take the next step in a new environment. Guys like Beasley and Young can be had for super cheap and allow you to add to the current core(lol) without subtracting anything from it.
But hey for all I know it could be much harder than I make it seem. Once again I'm just spitballin

Re: Trade Deadline Rumors Thread
I will go on record....if we trade Turner, we will rue the day.
He has NOT been given a proper chance. Period.
It is so obvious that Holiday is not a PG and Turner is not a SG or SF. He is a PG who has not been given a chance to run the point.
Turner has played PG his whole life, was player of the year in college as a PG and now is feeling his way in the NBA with limited time as a SG/SF.
Guarantee that whoever trades for him puts him at the point, plays him 33+ minutes a game and never looks back.

mayo is an interesting one.... that could be a good get... though isnt he much more of a shooter than a true scorer? maybe im wrong... but he would definately be a good get
i love that we like wes matthews... would love to keep our team and trade to make him the starting 2 guard... then we would have a good enough starting roster to maybe not need that go to guy
granger you can maybe get for a jrue and package.... they are wanting an upgrade at PG....

Re: Trade Deadline Rumors Thread
I agree with theo42. We were given some incredible luck in getting the number 2 pick. Management and the coach didn't agree with the pick, but in the end that was te pick. Management needs to tell Collins to try Turner at point, or give him more minutes (30 per game) so that he can show his stuff. If he can't then trade him by all means. don't let him waste on the bench, and then trade him, after which he blossoms into a poor mans grant hill. I will be done with this team if that happens.
Simple solution. Move Holiday to SG, Turner to PG, and Iggy stays at SF. Trade Meeks, Nocioni, and Lavoy Allen for a stretch pg (Steve Blake, Carlos Arroyo, Ramon Sessions, Mo Williams, Jose Calderon) or a sixth man role player to come off the bench.
Amnesty Brand, acquire your big man through free agency this summer.
Enough of this half hearted ballsheet

Re: Trade Deadline Rumors Thread
OK...Check this out..
With all the talk about Monta Ellis and my personal crush on "his game" reminding me of Iversons, I went trolling over to the Golden State forum just to get an idea of the value they place on him.
Some of the responses I got as far as trade ideas go was Evan Turner/Spencer Hawes for Ellis.
Another poster asked why we would even want Ellis when we already had Lou...I tried to explain that as best as I could.
Thing is...I think Monta Ellis is a very realistic option for us...and with Golden State basically wanting to rebuild they would not ask for Iguodala in return, however we would probably have to part with Turner according to their fans forum.. I don't know...I remember during last summer when Ellis to Philly had legs...Now I wish it would start to walk. If we could get him for the remainder of the season without giving up Jrue or Iguodala that would be a great start towards next season.
Not going to turn this into a fantasy thread but I certainly hope Thorn atleast makes a call about Monta Ellis.. I mean if we are looking for a scorer and he's available why not see what the asking price is for him?
We have all seen the rumor about him going to Orlando and I just don't see where Orlando has better assets than we do as far as a trade is concerned. Orlando is a floundering team at this point that is desperately trying to hold on to Dwight Howard...Too bad it wont happen.

Re: Trade Deadline Rumors Thread
Ok so here is my question....
If you have to pick one of Turner or Jrue to be your PG for the next 5 years, knowing you are going to have Iggy at the SF spot and trade the player you don't pick for the PG spot in order to get a 20+ppg scoring SG, which do you keep and which do you trade??
Does the returning value play into this at all? Or do you just make the choice based on the guy you want at PG the most?
Assuming all other player decisions do not change based on this choice. Jrue or Turner for future PG, who do you take?
On the rumors themselves, I don't think Ellis or Martin make sense for a Turner trade. Granger is probably the best "win now" option, but even so without a legit big man you don't win in the NBA. So it would be a move to lure in D12, to say come join Jrue/Granger/Iggy/Vucevic next year.

Re: Trade Deadline Rumors Thread
Something that's been bugging for a while.
Why does everybody think it's straight easy to just move Jrue to off guard?
For one Jrue probably wouldn't like that at all and for all of the talk about Turner's psyche, what would that do for Jrue's? "um ...hey Jrue? Yeah we are going to move Turner to the point because you have been ass at it and we don't feel like you are a point guard at all..so uhh...yeah no hard feelings?" I can't imagine that would go over too well for a young player...ya know?
and even if he was cool with it...the main reason Jrue fell to us in the draft was due to how poorly he played off the ball at UCLA. I know it would probably be a tandem type thing but yeah not to so sure Jrue is a pure shooting guard either.
It's just that once again it seems like we are being told to drop everything and change it up for one guy over another...that seems off to me. Besides this isn;t the season to make major changes like position changes...that's more of an offseason type thing. If they stand put all they should do is give less Meeks time and if Turner isn't playing like shite more Turner time. and less trips to LouWillVille.
The offense looked good yesterday until the Lou Will show started. Iggy was attacking and dropping dimes. and Jrue was just straight attacking and we were getting out on the break.
I'd like another scoring option but unless we unload dudes I'm not up for position changes. It does nothing for our young players but **** em up.

Hawes has to agree to any trade, and if he does agree to go play in the West again, you only really have to include Brackins or Battie to make the salaries match. No reason to throw in Nocioni unless you want to take more back.

Not exactly...Dwight Howard has publicly stated that he would like to play with Andre Iguodala and that he would like to play with Monta Ellis. If we could get Ellis and Iguodala to team up I think Dwight Howard becomes a reality and not just a pipe dream.
