With Camden making an offer, it'll break my brain if ownership moves the stadium to Camden.

How far is Camden from their current stadium?

Does the current stadium or the site in Camden have transport links, like light rail or metro?

It sounds like the owner will try to leverage the offer from Camden to make Philadelphia/PA offer him big tax credits to stay in Philly and PA.

I don't believe Chase and the Intuit Dome received any public funding but the Bucks' arena received like $200 million in various subsidies and funds from the state and county.

Philly is the #4 media market in the country so I wouldn't think the team would move, whereas the Bucks had a more credible threat of moving.

Freaking out about a bridge toll as though that's not a drop in the bucket compared to the rest of the cost seems silly. All I really care about is whether it would be more or less of a nightmare to get in and out of there.

The down town option seems nice if they made more of an investment in cleaning up the train system.

I don't know enough about the impact to the local community to comment there.

I think the real fear is Okafor driving over the bridge.

I heard that Intercourse, PA is also making a very attractive bid for the team.

That bid is screwed.

Camden is only roughly a 10 minute drive from the sports complex.

Are you saying it's not a win that the arena is moving to Camden? Don't you believe in preserving the historical character of (anywhere near) Chinatown forever?

Harris picked a location that was always going to be difficult to build at because of the city government & local communities. Harris also said they wouldn’t need public funds but also wants retroactive subsidies if another team receives them in the future. And now they are leveraging public funding offered by NJ to threaten to leave Philly.

I think something eventually gets worked out with Philly (at this location or another), but it’s a little silly to act like folks are unreasonable for wanting a say in how their community will be impacted by an arena. This is just the reality of doing a big real estate development project in a major US metro.

Is it weird that the thing I find the most aesthetically pleasing about that pic is the Ben in the background?

I personally hate the Barclay's Center look. Modern architecture is mostly hideous IMO.

Only the baseball stadia seem to have traditional architecture, like Camden Yards, Pirates stadium, Giants stadium.

Not sure what Citi Field looks like, modern or traditional.

But most of the baseball stadia except for Citi Field are over 20 years old.

The newer NFL and NBA stadia are all modern.

I think the architectural firms used for these stadia all have modern architects. You also see that with museums or opera/concert houses, all modern design, influenced by Gehry and Foster or Hadid.

These designs look dramatic, are photogenic, especially when you get drone or blimp shots of them during a game broadcast, especially at night, they're designing them to really stand out against the night skyline.

Since way more fans watch games on TV instead of in person, this is their priority, to make it look great on TV.

But that helps attendance too because these modern designs are popular, attracting a lot of visitors.

It's not as much of a thing in the US but if you go to Europe, the most famous soccer stadia are open to the public for visiting (except obviously on match days) because they're also museums full of memorabilia going back 100 years or more.

Based on your team icons do you live in the bay? I am aq transplant from Philly to Oakland for the last 5 years or so. Camden and Philly is probably pretty similar to crossing the bay bridge. Not super far in distance but on the other hand traffic will be a nightmare and a short trip in miles will take forever in actual travel time. Figure almost like how the proposed Howard Terminal Ballpark for the A's from a few years ago (Jack London Square) to where the Giants play at Oracle park.

Baseball parks are where it is at. You hit a lot of the big ones, but I am also partial to PetCo in San Diego and was a pretty big fan of Coors field in Colorado as well.
