He should be the main guy we try to keep this offseason. I like Yabu but he’s 30 and we’re not winning anything next year either. Keep Grimes and we have our backcourt locked up for the foreseeable future.

With this team at full strength, how may 44 point games are in his future? He is capitalizing on an opportunity. Good for him. But to overpay him would be criminal. He is not getting all those touches and not getting all those shots when Maxey and PG are playing and are not injured. He is a 4th option maybe 5th on a good team. If he costs to much to keep wish him well and slide in McCain, the lottery pick or someone else. I like the guy and wish him well be it here or someplace else.

But say PG or Embiid never get to full strength again. This guy is a lottery ball killer. Good enough to keep us close to the play-in with Maxey but not good enough to be a focal point in the playoffs.

Imagine if the team wasn't 3 star max contract top heavy by design.

One of the first priorities should be to move George, no later than the deadline. If it isn't after this year, something is very wrong.

Quentin is tied to if we get the draft pick, if I'm looking at it right. We already have McCain, and in the range we are projected we could end up with another guy in that spot beside Max.

If we lose that pick, we have to sign Quentin.

I’d imagine our scoring next season coming from Maxey, Grimes, and McCain, with George as our all-around wing. That should at least get us to the play-in.

Then comes Embiid in the playoffs—like the Undertaker rising from the coffin—where we expect him to go after opponents with a vengeance, only for him to drag the entire team down instead lol.

He's definitely taking advantage of an opportunity, but often times these situations of allowing diamonds in the rough to shine can create a valuable option. The fact that he does have a diverse offensive bag without being ball dominant is a good thing, but this team will need him to truly defend as well for a major role .. Though that's not important now.

They could easily have lineups with Maxey, McCain and Grimes at SF and a truly actualized defensive center could make up for that end. Maxey and McCain can run point with some secondary handling from Grimes and they're all movement shooters with some finishing ability and all unselfish. That works well for a dynamic offense.

I think Grimes has a better chance at being a viable 3rd option type scorer than old-ass Paul George or even McCain if only because I don't think you can play him and Maxey starters minutes together.

I was thinking about what a team of multiple third options would look like, and the closest comparison I see is the Pelicans without Zion. A core of Trey Murphy, CJ McCollum, Brandon Ingram, and Dejounte Murray seems like a good example. Offensively, I could see that group being better than a lineup of Maxey, McCain, Grimes, and Paul George.

Tighter handles and better athlete than I originally suspected. I think he will have some consistency issues but other than that he looks he will be a solid fit as a 2 guard next to Maxey

As long as we resign him for no more than NTMLE money, he's a valuable asset going forward. He shouldn't get more than that considering the lack of cap space this summer.

A 3-guard rotation of Maxey, Grimes, and McCain is pretty good. Plenty of minutes for all of them especially since we can slide Grimes up to SF in a small lineup.

See how it goes then we can trade someone down the road if required.

You can start them both assuming you have great frontcourt defense. Just look at the Cavs with Mitchell and Garland.

We used to have one of those frontcourt defensive guys in Embiid, but sadly that may no longer be the case.

Like if Embiid got healthy and we luck into Cooper Flagg in the draft. A frontcourt of Embiid, Flagg and George would work well to cover any defensive deficiencies of a Maxey + McCain backcourt.

With NY, that wasn't exactly the case. Grimes had a solid rookie season and an even better 2nd season, so good that NY refused to include him in the Donovan Mitchell conversations, which. the Jazz were asking for too much anyway, but NY wouldn't deal Grimes.

Grimes 3rd season. he wasn't the same. His shooting took a dive and NY figured they'd trade him for Bogs both because they liked Boggie as a complimentary player and outside shooter, and because he had a tradable expiring contract that off-season. Detroit shut Grimes down after 6 games. I think he was hurt that year. So, it wasn't that NY didn't like him, they just wanted to both get better for the playoffs and have a 20 million dollar expiring contract to trade that off-season.

I think Detroit made a mistake trading Grimes for Tim Hardaway Jr. and some 2nd rounders. Timmy's started for them and Detroit is wining now, so . . . maybe it was OK, but they gave up a lot of youth in that swap.

Dallas was a bad situation for QG, because they had Kyrie at PG, Luka at PG/SG and Klay Thompson at SG, so there was a minutes squeeze. Dallas did eventually move him to the rotation around game 10, going with 3 guards a fair bit, but then after the Luka trade, Dallas decided to trade Grimes too, rather than resign them. Grimes is a restricted free agent this off-season and Dallas has decided to rebuild, so trading him made sense for them.

I think the talent was always there, except for the 23-24 season when he might have been playing hurt.

I'm curious what kind of offer he'll get this off-season.

Also, as a Knicks fan, I'm happy to see Grimes get a run like this. 2 40 pt games, a bunch of 30 pt games. Averaging 30.9 pts over the last 7. That's kinda nuts.

This Grimes deal should be enough for Morey to keep his job at least another year. Got a high second as well in the deal if I’m not mistaken.. Highway robbery.

Yeah, but the real question is—how good is he, really? Is he just Marcus Thornton (figuratively) good? I’m buying into the idea that he’s legit, but I’m not fully convinced yet. This stretch of the season is basically garbage time, with teams tanking, load managing, and key players sitting out.

That's a valid question and it's been a topic on the Knicks board, briefly, though the thread led to an argument and got locked. Obviously, we overpaid (5 picks) to get Bridges and without trading Q for Bogs, we maybe don't have the player's salary to do the Bridges trade, so that's the question. Do we want Grimes & 5 picks or Bridges? There wasn't a strong consensus either way.

As some of you have said, the salary could be a problem. I think only the Nets might be in a position to overpay him next year.

I think he's a good player, but I don't know how good he is. You've probably watched him more lately than I have. I'm just happy to see a guy I used to root getting starters minutes and having a nice run.
