Re: Sam Hinkie steps down per Marc Stein
I don't think Hinkie was going to take us forward this summer, despite all the assets.....we now have a chance to get some free agents, because players and agents will trust that we are trying to win ASAP and not wait another 5 years

You can talk about the "process" and bad luck all you want, but when you don't value veteran leadership, a Point Guard and communication, you should not be a GM in the NBA...or any league.
except none of that has been proven one bit
what hasn't been proven? that he can't get you from point B to C? true...just an opinion based on the what I said in my 2nd paragraph

ASAP is fine, but they still have to build long term success...anything less is short sighted. This isn't the nfl where you can make huge jumps without a star...the NBA requires at least 2 stars, which are generally acquired in the draft.

What free agents do you think we have a shot with this summer that we wouldn't have had a shot with before?
It probably WILL improve our standing with free agents some what, but if it doesn't get someone like Durant(which it obviously won't) then who else out there is worth getting that we couldn't have gotten before?
I think that BC only increases our likely hood of overpaying for marginal guys which will be a net negative for the rebuild.
Unless Embiid is looking great and we get Simmons. Then the acceptable free agent pool will increase for me at least.

short sighted would be to give max contracts to mediocre players.....it would be trading draft picks and young players for over 30 year olds.....what's your definition of short sighted?

It will definitely be fascinating to see how they go about this coming year. With all the cap space around, im not even sure we get a look in with tier 2 FA guys because they just have better options than us.
What I'm comfortable with is that we are not going into next year with the sole aim to get the max lottery balls. We wont be actively sabotaging the team by beginning the year with Canaan as PG.
More than FA, I would like to see them sort out this clutter at center. Sure keep Embiid as our backup C but we gotta choose between Noel and Okafor. Not only for our sakes but for the players career. Noel will be wanting to get paid like everyone does but to do that he needs to be a starter, so if he needs to go to a good home, go get a good deal for him. And no, Jah is nowhere, noway nohow a PF.

as long as it improves our chances, it's a step forward....if not this year, then soon.....we were not getting that big free agent with Hinkie....no way will anyone convince me otherwise.

The later is my concern...BC or SH would both need to overpay to get free agents to come here.

...and we aren't going to get a big free agent this year with BC either, so this doesn't help us this summer. There is only one free agent difference maker really in Durant, and we aren't getting him anyway.
The potential payoff for better free agents is really 2017, and we would have been in a much improved situation with Hinkie that summer as well.
So I don't think we get any advantage in that area until AT LEAST the summer of 2017. In all other areas we would be better off with Hinkie in control.

Re: Sam Hinkie steps down per Marc Stein
first thing I would do is make a trade prior to free agency.....show free agents that you're serious....any all-star that's available, we should at least look at....fact is, we can make a trade for anyone who's available.
We must start building a basketball team...not collecting assets.....Okafor or Noel have to go....I would trade Okafor, because he has more value...plus he can't play PF if Embiid actually comes back.....PG must be addressed....not with Ish Smith as a starter.
Shooting must be a priority....players who can play defense....etc...

I wouldn't mind DeMar DeRozen...and I'm sure we have a much better chance of signing him now then we did yesterday
Horford, Conley, Parsons, Ryan Anderson, Batum....our chances improved to sign any of those guys

Is he an unrestricted free agent? I have no idea what BC's relationship was with him in Toronto, but I'd take him if we could get him.
IF he could get him this summer I would concede that Hinkie probably wouldn't have been able to do that. Still I would happily trade the Lakers pick or Noel if it would bring Hinkie back and keep him in charge.

Funny how everyone hates Josh Harris now....I've been telling you people that's he's a joker from the beginning, but you defended him because he hired Hinkie and loved losing as much as the rest of you.....now people want to protest....

Re: Sam Hinkie steps down per Marc Stein
First off, I never thought the process was the pretties but I always felt that Hinkie was doing the right thing building a strong core of high draft picks. It's extremely frustrating that someone else can now swoop in and take the credit. The 76ers are getting close to making that leap especially with Embid, the next draft pick and Saric coming soon.
Secondly, Jesus Christ BC is an idiot, at least with Hinkie you were drafting quality players with BC it'll be accumulating horrible Europeans that he has some fetish for. Dude doesn't know how to scout nor brings in good people to do it. I fear that he could **** up this upcoming draft pick.
I am really rooting for you guys and think you have the brightest future in the league but Hinkie leaving was cold

This is considered baiting. This is your only warning.
EDIT: Wait...how many warnings do you already have against your record? Wow.

Re: Sam Hinkie steps down per Marc Stein
The ironic thing is that Bryan Colangelo has a pretty decent record with making draft picks, but the things he sucks at are the win now moves like signing crappy players to long term, ridiculous contracts in free agency and stilted trades. He should be set up to draft some really nice players with the cache of picks and swaps left behind by Hinkie, but the win now moves may ruin all of that.
I figured out weeks ago as many did that Hinkie wouldn't survive the summer, he clearly did too. Colangelo is no Pat Gillick style mentor, he wanted the team's new practice facility for USA Basketball and is basically pimping his worthless kid into a GM job when no one else would hire him.
I would be okay with this if they had mined other successful organizations for top GM talent, either proven or an up and coming star, but this is blatantly ridiculous.
Think of it this way, the Nets now have a better GM than we do and possibly a more functional front office. Let that sink in for a minute.
And if JC really did leak Hinkie's letter of resignation to the taint licking media, then it proves just what kind of a douche bag the old man really is.

The more news comes out about this whole charade the more depressing it becomes.
The Colangelos hijacked this team from us.

Honestly I am surprised it is that close, lol.
Shoot me, seriously, effing Bryan Colangelo, why not someone from the Spurs or GSW??
