Hah. Agreed. That could literally be said of almost any player.

Doesn't change mine. Both sides handled the holdout well. I guess it was in neither side's best interest to make this a public thing.

If he did in fact do that then I don't hold it against him.

Well it isn't true that every player has the potential to be the best player in the league. VERY few players have that level of talent, and physical ability.

He is one of the few players in the league that has legitimate potential to be the best player in the nba. He also happens to have a scary injury history.

Embiid has only played basketball for 6 years and already has a much better shooting touch than Simmons and Fultz. I nominate Embiid to be our new shooting coach. Look at this.

They should all subscribe to the Embiid method of learning how to shoot. Watching white people shoot on YouTube.

I don't think any team televises it's preseason road games outside of teams that use regional partners of the same company (like us and the Celtics)

The nets are televising it locally.

1)If Embiid can shoot half court shots like that so effortlessly, he should take the final shot of every quarter. I still have nightmares of Lou Williams dribbling out the last seconds of a quarter, make a move to get a long jump shot off, and the shot clanging every time. Ugh!

2) At the end of the video, love the Dream Shake Embiid does. We've seen the move when he was at Kansas, but I don't ever recall him using it in the NBA.

Whaaaaat. He scored his very first bucket with that exact move.

No way Embiid isn't getting what the rumors say next year if gets a serious injury. If he is healthy he gets max money. So where is the upside? The only upside according to reports is the Sixers have protected themselves against injury for what and how many years is the question.

If it's for the duration it's a good deal. If it's for one year it's pointless. If it's for two years it's probably not a good deal. If it's three of more years it's acceptable.

The upside is pretty self evident. We get a healthy Embiid for 5 years. The protections, whatever they are, limit the damage if the worst happens.

The upside is they eliminate the worst possible scenario, a healthy Embiid playing for another team, for JoJos entire career. Imagine the backlash from media, fans and sponsors if in 5 years Embiid even tests the open market. The Joel Embiid brand wouldn’t survive that.

Wait what? That can be said of like 5-10 players in the world at any given time--not too many people have a realistic chance of being the best player in the NBA, and Lowe has repeatedly said that Embiid could be unbelievably awesome if he's healthy.

Woj has a story on ESPN now that describes the protections of the deal and they are perfect.

Basically if he has catastrophic reoccurances of specific injuries then he can be waived and it will end his guaranteed money.

It doesn’t specifically say what those injuries are, but I think it is fairly obvious what they are.

It doesn’t protect again ANY catastrophic injuries, but it protects against specific ones.

Stress fractures are the only injuries that should really be worried about, in terms of long term prognosis, so these are perfect protections.

If he demonstrates strong health over 3 consecutive years then it guarantees the remainder of the deal.

I love it.

It protects against catastrophic injuries to his feet and back. Not knees.

I don't think his knees really present a long term issue. I am definitely more concerned about foot and back.

I'm really happy both sides were able to agree to this deal. There is always risk in any max deal, and the protections appear to drop the risk level to be more on par with other max deals. And there is no doubt in my mind that a healthy Embiid is worth a max deal, as it puts you in a position to build a contender.

Really, having Embiid is a bit like having Yao in his prime (but even better, as Embiid has a clearer path to being unparalleled at his position.) There is a lot of risk every year, but if he is healthy in the playoffs you have a shot at a title. And that is really what is all about.
