I listened to Morey’s appearance to Eskin’s podcast. He talked about James to be a good defender when the defense is switch heavy. Im thinking thats probably why we run Milsap at 5 on a James Harden + Bench unit where Milsap can be a switch heavy 5.

Eskin is a troll

Harden is a way below average defender unless employed in a specific role near the post

Milsap is completely washed

Selling this trade on defensive potential ain’t it

Nobody is selling this trade on it’s defensive potential.

With Harden we have a guy who can carry our team’s offense when Embiid is struggling.

But Aren’t you guys concerned that if Biid’s shot isn’t falling, it may not make everything fall into plan because Biid isn’t a good roll man, so Harden won’t be able to get him easy baskets and also make it hard for Harden to take over with the paint being clogged giving him a hard time to run PnR

No. Embiid's shots weren't falling early against MIN, but with the gravity he and harden create plus all the ball movement, there were open looks all over the place and Maxey feasted on them.

The beauty of this new setup is not being completely dependent on Embiid every night, and being able to withstand a rare off night he may have. I think those off nights will be even rarer with the newfound space he will now have.

I think im getting my answer with the knicks game. He’s just attacking the rim and being a magnet for freethrows.

Is Harden's greatest trick going to be magically making Thybulle useful enough on offense that he can play 30 mpg in the playoffs?

His greatest trick would be turning Tobias into a productive modern day 3&D guy.

Harden-KD
2020-2021: 122Ortg 110DRtg (11 games)
2021-2022: 111ORtg 109DRtg (32 games)

Harden-Embiid
After 2 games: 134ORtg 91DRtg (2 games)

Which duo do you think fits better?

As of two games, I’d say Harden-Embiid duo is much better.

I find Harden-KD to have some redundancy with both guys being perimeter playmakers. More redundancy if you add Kyrie to the mix.

I find Harden-Embiid to be a better fit, with one big and one perimeter player. Harden empowers Embiid with Harden’s ability to run PnR. Then Maxey is just a much better fit as a third option, compared to Kyrie, whereas he’s OK playing offball as a pressure release valve on halfcourt offense while showing great chemistry with Harden on transition.

Matisse really looks like a slot receiver finding holes in zone coverage with Harden being an elite QB who can find him for a first down whenever he wants.

Even though Embiid isn't a lob threat, the gravity both of them attract combined with Embiid's size, touch, footwork and constant jumpshot threat makes them a lethal combo for easy looks off of a PnR at any moment. This threat will never go anywhere even if Embiid isn't hitting all of his jumpers.

His greatest trick would be turning Tobias into a productive modern day 3&D guy.

the sad thing is that even if Tobias miraculously becomes that, we could've paid any number of guys a fraction of the cost to predictably fill that role.

Yeah, don't we all know it. For this year, it really would be a miracle.

Yeah roll man /= lob threat. Karl Malone wasn't Clint Capella.

Besides comparing two second rate stars to two MVP level players, Fox has been going ballistic on offense recently and Sabonis has also played quite well. It's the trash heap of role players they have that prevents them from continued success.

We got a taste of what Embiid will do in the PnR when his shot isn’t falling last night. Harden can feed him on pockets passes where Embiid will either get a layup or parade to the FT line over and over again.

I know Harden won’t continue doing that, but his TS% is .815 in the first two games. I don’t know if I ever seen that for a guard.
