Offense is king. Defense is for peasants

Yeah, evidenced by the Pacers and the Hawks.

Edit: The Kings are also third in a conference where teams are barely over .500

Idk why he’s citing that period but they’re 3rd on the year right between the Nuggets and Celtics.

I think is because he's trying to argue defense doesn't matter

No. My point is both Offense and defense are important. But focusing on defense over offense is not the way to go to in the NBA nowadays.

Are there bad teams with really good defensive ratings but poor offensive ratings?

And the Blazers, Mavericks, Jazz, and Hawks are top ten in ORtg. So I think the takeaway is: you need to be good at both to be a contender.

The best team currently (The Bucks) is 3rd in Drtg and 17th in Ortg. The Warriors last year won the title being 2nd in Drtg and 16th in Ortg, the Celtics were 1st in Drtg and 9th in Ortg.

I understand thinking defense is getting obsolete, but this idea you cannot be a contender focusing in defense is weird.

There are normally 3 type of teams that win titles in the NBA, great offensive teams with above-average defense, balanced teams with great offense and defense and elite defensive teams with mediocre/average offense.

I dont deny that. Its just the bolded type of team would win the championship more than the other two, with how the game is played nowadays.

I know Bucks have the best defense and all the NetRtg, but I do think they’d have trouble deep in the playoffs without having great offense and specially without a closer. But they’d win it in most times in previous years.

Jrue is one of the least efficient scorers on ISO with a threshold number of possessions. I think the teams have well adjusted on Giannis now with having guys who can defend him and are more familiar on scheme on how to defend him, compared to previous years.

Just my two cents

And now to connect it to my point about our team.

Thats why I think Sixers will be able to beat Celtics and Bucks on a 7 game series.

1- we have the personnel and scheme to limit their top guys
2- we have better offense than both teams
3- we have better closers down the stretch than both teams
4- we have the best player in a player series than both teams

The last champion with a defense outside the top ten was the Warriors in 2018 and they were likely coasting the entire regular season, the previous season they were 2nd in defense. The Bucks won the title being 9th in defense, all the other champions on that stretch of years had a top 5 defense.

Even the Cavs who played Love and Kyrie together had the 10th-best defense when they won the title.

We wont beat the Bucks unless we play stellar defense, reason being, they will be defensively stifling.

1 and 3 don't feel true with the Celtics. Tatum and Brown are serious matchup problems for this team, and I think they're better built in general to give us issues rather than the other way around. I think that's a tough series for Harden. We'd need Joel to dominate to win.

4 probably isn't true with the Bucks.

If we tighten up our defense for the remainder of the season, we can easily finish 6th in DRTG.

3rd in ORTG and 6th in DRTG sounds like a championship team to me. For comparison, Milwaukee is currently sitting 17th in ORTG and 3rd in DRTG.
2025-2026 Philadelphia 76ers:

Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Edgecombe/Grimes/Gordon
George/Oubre/Edwards
Bona/Watford/Barlow
Embiid/Drummond/Broome

I think the top 3 in the East are essentially a coin toss in a playoff series. That’s a huge improvement for the Sixers since the early season. Fingers crossed Embiid stays healthy because I think he’s at his peak and will be the best player on the floor regardless of opponent.

Sixers
top 3 in offense and top 3 in defense in 4th quarter
top 2 NetRtg in 2nd half
top 2 in crunch time

This team can turn it up and play great on both ends if they want to

Maxey is averaging 22 ppg on 55/56/100 shooting splits in March. The kid has been on an insane heater since coming back to the starting group.
