$15m/yr is great value for Grimes. Tired of all the haters denigrating this man, who has proved his value in the league as a two-way stud.

I don't see it. He got to put up a ton of shots on a GLeague roster that was tanking games. He's a reserve on a contending team. I like Grimes...I like his game, I guess 15 mill is fair, but it still seems like an overpay.

Was he efficient when putting up a ton of shots? You do realize that when non-stud players shot volume goes up that much, their efficiency tanks.

But maybe you don’t realize, which is why you’re hating. Sad!!!

I give you a very chill, respectful response. I tread as carefully as I can not to offend your opinion and you respond with insults. Now...Was the necessary?

Your first go-to is "you do realize" which has become the new (ish) condescending way to begin a barrage of insults. "You do realize"...Implying that I'm some dumbass who mindlessly bellowed out a hot take without knowing the facts. No sir...I'm not Kendrick Perkins.
Then, you call me a hater (something we often do when an opiniondiffers from ours), and end it with "sad." As in I'm a sad excuse of a follower of this team.

Now I could very easily just go straight early 2000s Eminen on you real quick like, but I'm not going to right now because again...(Personal growth and all that non sixery snowflake stuff). I'm trying hard not to be that person anymore on this forum.f I'm just simply trying to understand the reason for the attack. Maybe you are having a bad moment? Who knows...Go pet a dog or cat and maybe you'll feel better.

In conclusion, I think you overreacted with this comment. I don't hate Grimes at all, and I hope we bring him back. I simply think his asking price of 25 million is too high. I think he put up empty stats on a team trying to lose. With that being said, there is still a role for him on a winning team. I hope your day gets better dude, and Man....Think about your response for a second (this one in particular) and get back to me.

Blazers just weren't confident in that key skill emerging for Walker.

In order to stick at SF, he needed to show three point shooting and/or playmaking. In order to stick at PF, they needed to see shotblocking. He didn't show any shotblocking or playmaking. His shooting improved (shot 38% from three at low volume), but not enough in their eyes, I suppose.

First you said he's not worth $15m when I said he was, then when rightly called out for this negative take, you now say he's not worth $25m hidden in a word salad of irrelevant nonsense.

Nice try to hide your shifting goalposts, but it didn't work!

And you are rightly exposed as a hater since you claim Grimes is not even a starter in the league, and not worth even $15m, which is extremely low in an era when the luxury tax line is around $200m.

But don't worry you're not alone, there are a lot of "Sixers fans" who also hate and denigrate Grimes even though he BALLED OUT and put up huge numbers without dropping efficiency. They'll validate your hatred I'm sure!

Unfalsifiable either way. I'll rephrase if you'd prefer. It's infuriating to me that it took Morey this long to fill the roster with vets under 25 instead of vets over 30.

Chiming in to address Kolk's point.

Not even sure if the geezers had impact on developing the youth. When you ask all the young guys about who helps them, they say Maxey ha.

2000s Eminem is crazy lol. But yeah 25 mil is just his agent trying to up the 15 mil offer prolly. Hines for sure is a starting two way role player. He showed he is capable of on ball creation but he definitely showed he will be our on ball defender and hit open 3s. I’d go as high as 20 mil for him. Ain’t out money. Ain’t like we’re staying below the 1st apron anyway. I think even at 20 he would be tradeable asset.

It really feels like we won't be using the TMLE, even though we can and very likely still be under the 2nd apron.

Hopefully, we get a resolution with Grimes in the coming days. Fischer said yesterday there really is no market for him, and he expects him to be back in Philadelphia.

It's infuriating that it took Morey this long to figure this out.

Ah come on, we gave opportunities to 2nd rounders like Joe, Bassey, Bona but also even undrafted guys like Council and Edwards. I think we have been absolutely great with identifying and developing NBA players from the scraps. Perhaps that the presence of those vets are a reason that they have developed the way we've seen. Obviously there needs to be a balance, but I don't think you can blame the Sixers for being completely off the mark here.

Absolutely great? Bassey played 168 mins for the Sixers. The Sixers gave up on Joe after two seasons so they could get House to take his role, then Joe doubled his minutes on a championship team. They are examples of guys who really didn’t get a shot here.

Nevertheless, I was referring to free agent signings. We know they are going to draft young players. That is what the draft is. Utilizing free agency to find young players that you can further develop, who can become more valuable than what you are paying them, is not an avenue that Morey has had much success with.

I agree. Not sure there will be anyone left worth more than a minimum by the time this resolves, and I wouldn't be surprised if they want to stay in a cap range that could allow them to duck the tax if things go sideways again.

If you include Grimes, we'll have 14 players on standard contracts, plus Walker on a two-way. Usually, Morey goes into the season with 14 standard contracts. Plus, he let Yabusele leave for the TMLE.

Maybe there will be a dump (Drummond) or a consolidation trade that opens up more space to use the TMLE without being as close to the 2nd apron.

Lyles and Boucher are the best forwards remaining. Not sure either would even cost the full TMLE.

Kessler Edwards would be a nice pickup for the minimum. Played really well in Dallas last year. He can provide some nice 3&D play when he's on. Provided some good shotblocking from the SF position (which is what we need).

The 14 players I get, but I don't take Yabusele into account. Listen to Bodner on PHLY a couple days ago and he lays out why it wouldn't been a great idea to sign him.

With what's left on the market, I get that they might not spending the entire TPMLE, but I'm hoping they sign Boucher or Lyles with part of that assuming they're worth more than the minimum

My concern with Boucher is that his shotblocking has diminished a little in each of the last handful of years. He'll be turning 33 during the season. We'd be getting the worst version of him, at this point. That's something we really need to move away from. We already have too many guys on the decline (Lowry, Drummond, George, Embiid, Gordon).

Yeah, Nurse needs to show up this season - is he still capable?

He's 0 for 2 in Philly thus far

Don't forget to factor in that ownership likely wants to duck the tax again if they're not very good.

Yeah, him and Lyles kinda suck but I think it would be good to get someone with a little extra salary that can play some PF minutes. Are these guys even worth it (giving playing time and worth more than the minimum) on a one year deal at this point? I'm thinking they are but not certain.

I agree. At the same time, I wanted to sign Lowry and Drummond. I wanted mix of vets and youth. Especially because I thought we would contend last season. I expected Drummond and Lowry to be much better last season. My issue with Morey is Drummond, Deandre Jordan, PJ, House, PJ Tucker, Eric Gordon, Lowry, Beverly, etc. He was only signing guys who were clearly on a downward trajectory, and most of them have significant injury histories.

Yabusele was a great free-agent signing though. I think Morey’s pro scouts might be pretty decent finding guys like Grimes to have tossed into trades. I also liked Melton, before injuries, and McDaniels. I think they can identify some undervalued free-agents as long as Morey isn’t loading up on washed-up vets.

No doubt this is why they won't use the tMLE. Ownership is plotting and scheming to DUCK the tax. Some things never change!
