I still hope for a Barkley/Brand type of player, but his range appears better than either of them...we'll see what happens...

So...does everyone still think this deal is going to happen?

It's now only 5 days away from when the official trade can go through. Who thinks it will fall through and who thinks it will go on as announced??

I'm totally expecting to end up getting back a lottery protected 1st rounder and a few **** contracts for Thad.

My gut says it happens, because it's been too quiet and Stein/Woj didn't nix The Daily News' report, but who knows. I'll say this:

Unless Hinkie gets Bennett, plus a pick, I don't think this happens. He'll just keep Thad. I don't think he will trade him for a pick, Shabazz, and an expiring.

Latest I saw from a Wolves reporter (Jerry Zgoda) said Shved, Moute and the Miami 1st. Said it's possible Shabazz could be added.

Telling you right now Hinkie will not do that deal. If you want Thad, you gotta give up Bennett plus a pick.

I'm not sure your certainty is accurate. I think Hinkie might have learned last year that with the departure of GMs like Doug Collins and Isaiah Thomas and the arrival of more analytic/efficiency focused guys, most teams are not dumb enough to be fooled by the old pump and dump.

As for me, I would be fine with either (1) Bennett or (2) the 1st with Shabazz or GRIII. And as long it is not Martin, I don't really care what contracts they send to balance out the money. If we could get the right to swaps picks also (to double our lottery chances), I would be ecstatic.

That's a very good deal. Done.

But I don't think that is all the 76ers would have to take back. Shved and Moute only add up to about 6.5 Million in salary. Thad makes 9 million. Why would the T'Wolves pay the 76ers to take back less salary?
The deal would have to be JJ Barea, Moute (and maybe Shved) to get the T'Wolves to give up the pick and/or Shabazz for Thad Young.

Tbh I can't see us being disappointed regardless of the outcome. It's either we get Bennett, assets or keep Thad. I personally would be fine with having any of them.

The Miami first is an asset, but the rest of the players other than Bennett are junk. At the trade deadline if there are no better offers for Thad then taking the Miami pick would be ok, but there is no reason to make that deal now.

It's Bennett or bust for me right now. Taking back junk and a late first rounder in August does not strike me as a Hinkie move right now. Next year's draft is not as deep as this year's draft so basically subtract 7-10 spots from the Miami pick for comparison's sake. I would bet that next year's pick would turn into a KJ McDaniels type of prospect. Not horrible, but hardly worth getting excited about.

I have no opinion on what will happen as the reports are conflicting and we all know how accurate reports have become recently in the nba, but I won't personally be happy unless we get Bennett. I don't need any assets beyond Bennett, but we at least need him.

We're losing Thad at the end of the season anyways, a first rounder alone would be sufficient and I didn't think we'd get that for him at the beginning of the preseason tbh. If we do get Bennett than I'd be ecstatic obviously, however the fact that it is obvious is why I'm doubtful that any of this is legitimate, it would be stupid for the Timberwolves to give up Bennett for Thad imo. This was likely just a ploy to see if they could get more for Bennett, they had about a month to field offers for him, if they don't keep Bennett I suspect they get more than Thad Young for him.

I'm not really set on any type of package right now. It's not like the draft where I just couldn't wait and was nervous for days. Right now I'm just interested in what we can get for him if we're even involved at all. The reports sound good, let's see if they're true.

Yeah, the three reporters that cover the Wolves the closest (Krawczynski, Wolfson, Zgoda) all claim that Bennett won't be involved in a Young deal.

I may be wrong, but I really don't believe Anthony Bennett is in the deal.
The 76ers don't leak things like this, so any info that got out about this deal came from the T'wolves. Who's to say that the Timberwolves didn't purposely leak Anthony Bennett's name for Thad Young, to see if they could get some other team to "up the offer" once everyone saw all they were asking was Thad Young? The T'wolves could be using this trade moratorium time to maximize the value of the extra pieces coming from Cleveland, because they really don't need a 3rd team to do this deal.

I suspect that to be the case, believe Philly Daily News was muddled and/or excruciating late rehashing the hypothetical possibility of Bennett being sent to the Sixers and given the time of the report made it appear more related to the handshake deal in place by the Cavs and Wolves than it actually was.

I'm thinking Sixers are not involved in the deal on the 23rd. Then they do a separate deal with Minny where Thad goes and other pieces come to Philly. Maybe Bennett, maybe not. Doesn't really matter to me.

At this point, I'm of the opinion that Thad won't be here next season anyways, and all he will do this season is help the Sixers win games that they don't need to be winning. So if you can ship him out now, and get ANY positive return for him, you do it. As long as if it is a 1st round pick, it is not one of those "protected" picks that the Sixers might lose if a team sucks. Make sure it is a pick that will definitely be owned by the Sixers. And any prospects that come is just icing on the cake.

I'm not a Shabazz fan at all. BUT if he were to turn things around and become the player a lot of people thought he could be, I'd like to see it in Philly next to MCW and KJM.
