Would probably rather have a C with a two-way, but Thor could've been a good pick up as a two way.

Part of me likes the clap back, part of me can't get over how lame this dude is.
For his sake I hope he's good, because that will determine whether all this stuff is viewed as endearing or something he gets relentlessly ripped for.

I don't think Yabusele is any good, but not really going to complain about a depth guy. Would've preferred Morris though mainly because he can shoot a bit better. Yabusele is not a great shooter, particularly from the line.

Obviously the front office should know more than us, but I just don’t see the fit. He isn’t a great fit for a team that is prioritizing shooting from their role players. I would give leeway on fit for a developmental player, but he is turning 29 in December, so certainly a win-now addition. However, when you see they likely will need a player in his prime who is athletic, can rebound, and defend traditional PFs, he may fill that role.
I have a lot of faith in Nick Nurse’s basketball knowledge, and I am certain he is giving his approval to all of these roster additions. You would hope he knows what pieces he will need.

I think the fit is pretty easy to see and you even nailed it on the head. I would not expect him to be a starter, but you're not getting that with any of the guys left on the market.sixers hoops wrote:FireMorey wrote:I don't think Yabusele is any good, but not really going to complain about a depth guy. I could easily understand people preferring Morris over him and I could see it turning out Morris being the better player this year as Yabuselle is difficult to evaluate since he hasn't been playing in the NBA.
My hope is that his journey will make him hungry and let him shine in that high energy bench player role and that his international 3 point shooting, which has been good, translates.

He’s been a pretty consistent 40% 3 pt shooter in Europe for a while now? Still has to prove he can step out to the nba line but it wouldn’t be crazy.
I would categorize it as a spin on the wheel more than a development project. Maybe he’ll hit maybe not.

Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 5
Really like this signing, Morey is killing. Hes betting on himself. I actually can see him, by the end of the year, being our starter PF and moving Oubre to the bench.
Maxey/Martin/PG/Yabu//Embiid.
Oubre is better as a 6th man off The bench, and we move PG to SF, his true position.
If he can shoot well from 3, he may actually have a role similar to Tucker, but Younger. He he will have decent playing time here, so he can get a nice contract next year, if he plays well.

Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 5
I like this signing and expect him to give us a solid 15 mpg off the bench. He was a solid rebounder when he entered the league and still was in the olympics. Final piece to come in the KJ trade should start ahead of him, but it's all coming together nicely.

overhyped from the Olympics, was heavy and slow with the Celtics
he has changed his body, so if Nurse has a plan for him I will be cautiously optimistic
better regular season option than Marcus Morris or Davis Bertans

Definitely think it's that, if he hits he's a bigger contributor then the other PF options we had, and if he doesn't we're still searching for a real upgrade at that position like we would if we'd signed Bertans/Morris/whoever. We're risking having less stopgap/innings-eating RS options but we're probably all good with that. Be fun to watch weird lineups with KJ and Council anyway.
Also can't find shooting splits for europe but his tape looks like he's very comfortable on open catch-shoot 3s, and he's also good at attacking closeouts and being pretty nimble with his euro-steps and body control getting to the hoop. That's gonna be his role on this team. Always hard to tell if that stuff can translate to the NBA but looks like he has a decent chance at it.
Also his NBA sample size was really small (and 5+ years ago) but he did consistently grab 8 boards per 36, 3 of them offensive. That's also better than other options we had, and it is our biggest need. If he can hit on 2 of those 3 things--rebounding, spot shooting, and attacking the rim--I think the signing could be a big success.

I love the signing. Very good backup. Better than the remaing options. Morey gets an A+ for the offseason.
My over/under is 55 wins.
