I feel like a hallmark of prospects that become stars (or at least really good players) is that they at least show flashes of greatness. Saben's willingness to take stepback shots along with his ability to draw a ton of fouls and throw down in traffic really makes me feel like he's worth drafting. I think my main concerns are his unwillingness to use his left hand around the rim and his teams dreadful record. I know the SEC has been good these days, but great players are able to elevate their team's play to at least a winning record.

Wow Jared Butler, Ayo Dosunmu, Kofi Cockburn, Aaron Henry, Ayayi and Kispert, Chris Smith, Trendon Watford, Isaiah Joe, Yves Pons, and Derrick Alston all returned. Quite a few names I wouldn't have expected to drop out in such a weak draft.

Saw that Elleby is staying in the draft.

Jared Butler surprises me. Was the best player on a team in the spotlight the whole year.

I guess he got feedback on teams wanting him to improve his PG skills. His passing/distributing is pretty weak for his position. Also, another year playing high caliber defense to make up for his weak d as a freshman will improve his stock, as well.

This draft is all over the place for me. I think as we get closer to October, I might be more of a Kira Lewis fan in the first round. I could get on board with a Lewis, Thybulle, Simmons, Harris, Embiid future.

In my mind, he just turned 19 years old, so we haven't seen the final product as far as his body is concerned. He's an 80% FT shooter and was 36% 3FG on 52% assisted shots and in the 80th percentile in C&S situations. Extremely fast, quite good STL%, versatile three level scorer. If nothing else, you take a high production, extremely young prospect and groom him for a season or two. Get him on that HGH workout regimen.

For playoff basketball, I think you need to be able to do one of two things (ideally both): defend your position and go on the ball and score your own buckets.

So even though Kira is likely to be a sieve that gets abused relentlessly on the defensive end, he'll be able to reciprocate some of that damage on the other end with an attacking style of play on the ball.

I'd prefer to get someone who can do both (Tre Jones, Ashton Hagans), but if Kira is the guy we come away with, I'd be okay with it.

I don't disagree that he'll have his issues on defense, at least initially since he's so painfully skinny, but I believe that he has more of an upside on offense than Tre Jones and Hagans. Also, his age needs to come into consideration when comparing to the other two. 1-2 years younger than either of them. A 13ppg scorer as a 17 year old. Considerably faster than both.

Ben, Kira, and Matisse would be brutal to pass against. All are great to elite at deflections and getting out on the fast break.

Honestly, the only PG/SG in the area of where we're selecting that feels pretty guaranteed to be an NBA offensive dynamo is Tyrese Maxey, but I'm sure our FO is not interested in trading up very high.

Nico Mannion will be pretty nasty, but he's another guy that can't defend.

I love the international dudes in this draft.

Bolmaro needs jumper help, but he's big, decently athletic, a strong passer, and an elite defensive prospect.

Here are some hot takes as I evaluate more:

-Devin Vassell will go top 8, maybe top 5.
- Kira Lewis will go top 15, maybe top 12
-Kahlil Whitney get drafted

I am out of the loop regarding consensus rankings, but I believe both Vassell and Haliburton were getting top 10 love.

I've been mostly seeing Vassell in the teens.

Haliburton has been top five on many boards (which I'm not sure I agree with).

I like Haliburton in that range. In the very least, he's a winning piece with no real holes in his game that can help you reverse course on being a losing organization.

Lewis and Mannion are both okay on D, esp Kira

Hagans is a scrub

I get “good role player” vibes from him like I did with Lonzo.

Maybe so, but I think Haliburton could be on the high end of the role player spectrum like Ben Simmons. Also, these days, it seems like anyone who can shoot automatically gets inflated offensively. Haliburton's jumpshot is borderline great.

So he could be a would-be 12-14 ppg player inflated up to a a guy that flirts with 20 just based off his shooting. All while being an elite defender and strong passer.

Hagans is a jumper away from being an all-tool player. And the guy is a 79% free throw shooter so the odds of him getting that jumper are high. The only thing that can hold Hagans back is his own crappy intangibles.

It's hard for me to envision a scenario where he's not AT LEAST as good as De'Anthony Melton.

If we can get Kira Lewis or a guard similar to him with our first pick and Paul Reed falls out of the first round, we absolutely need to grab him. I'd rather have that type of PF playing for us than Tobias tbh.
