The guy I can see Morey trading is Maxey. He will never have more trade value than he does now and some team might overpay for him. Plus the top of the draft has a ton of guard talent and we already have Maxey & McCain.

What do you think of this trade? More of a thought exercise since it isn't very realistic. Four Team Deal (Sixers, Celtics, Nets, Spurs)

Sixers In: Derrick White, Cam Johnson, #2 in 2025 (SAS),
Sixers Out: Tyrese Maxey, Andre Drummond, Gordon, #3 in 2025

---------------------

Celtics In: Harrison Barnes, #18 in 2025 (BRK), #26 in 2025 (BRK)
Celtics Out: Derrick White, Sam Houser

(Save $19 million this season and a ton the following season)

---------------------

Nets In: #3 Pick in 2025 (PHI), Keldon Johnson, Sam Hauser, Gordon
Nets Out: #8 Pick in 2025, #18 pick in 2025, #26 Pick in 2025, Cam Johnson

---------------------

Spurs In: Tyrese Maxey, Andre Drummond, #8 Pick in 2025
Spurs Out: Keldon Johnson, Harrison Barnes, #2 Pick in 2025

PG: Derrick White, Dylan Harper
SG: Quentin Grimes, Jared McCain
SF: Cam Johnson, Justin Edwards
PF: Paul George, Kelly Oubre
C: Joel Embiid, Adem Bona

This team could compete in 2025 and pivot if George and/or Embiid break down again. They'd probably have to give up the LAC 1st in this deal and I doubt the Spurs would do it.

Sixers pick Harper & whoever is your best available/best fit @ 14 (Cedric Coward for example ;) )

The below figures are from AI search. I haven't personally checked further:
- Drummond + Gordon: Frees $2,630,600 in salary.

- Drummond + Council: Frees $1,361,640 in salary.

Both options keep the Sixers above the cap but increase apron flexibility.

If you unprotect both the 28 LAC and the 30 PHI 1st, there's a shot SA goes for it. And just send them EG. Drummond and Oubre you can trade later. Sixers have room to sign Grines and they won't hard cap themselves at the 1st apron to sign Yabu so he's almost certainly gone unless no one offers him anything above the TMLE (unlikely).

The big problem here is that the Spurs have Fox and Castle. Which is why they're listening to offers to drop a spot, they don't need another guard.

The most obvious spot for Maxey is ORL for Franz. ORL fans don't love that, and their management is ultra conservative to the point where they don't make very many big trades (too afraid/overrate their own players).

I suspect Morey knows Joel is done.

CHA gets 3
MIA gets PG, EG, and their 2027 pick returned
PHI gets Robinson, Anderson, Rozier, 4, and 20

Nice post. I am not sure Castle is some huge difference maker though. They need someone at guard who can shoot, and Maxey does that.

I've wondered if Morey knows if Joel is done, too. I am just hoping for the best and want to see one more run with Embiid. But, as you said, there is a strong chance everyone involved knows he's toast. Which is maybe why Morey said on a podcast that you won't see a role player version of Embiid. He will either get back to his star self or not. Maybe he is hoping for a medical retirement.

I am open to trading PG for neutral value. This is close to that.

I tweaked it a little to make it slightly better for MIA. Apparently they can open a ton of cap next summer and have big FA plans? And they can draw FA obviously. My question is who's available? Everyone re-signs with their own teams nowadays to make the most money. The only reason PG was available for free was because the Clippers didn't want to go into the 2nd apron.

Charlotte moves up to get ASS, who replaces Brandon Miller. Add vets.

Philly still gets one of "their guys" and adds a starting SF.

I doubt charlotte would do Brandon miller straight up for #3. They’re not giving up their second best asset to move up one spot in a 2 player draft to the 3rd spot.

They’ll be happy with whoever is available at 4.

I'd do that in a second, but I have to believe that Riley is too smart to take that PG contract.

If the Heat get Durant, that would make them more likely to want PG. Although to make the money work on both, they would lhave to trade Herro.

Sixers out: PG & McCain
Sixers in: Herro & Wiggins

Heat out: Herro, Wiggins, Rozier, Robinson
Heat in: KD & PG

Heat out: KD
Heat in: McCain, Rozier, Robinson

That actually works salary wise….just a matter of how many 1st’s the Suns want.

Sixers want one of the top 4 players in this draft...get your stones ready.

#3/Embiid/Oubre/2028 LAC 1st for #1/Thompson/Gafford/Washington/Martin

Maxey/McCain/Butler
Grimes/Thompson/Gordon
George/Martin/Edwards
Flagg/Washington/(#35)
Gafford/Bona/Drummond
2025-2026 Philadelphia 76ers:

Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Grimes/Edgecombe/Gordon
Oubre/Edwards
George/Watford/Barlow
Embiid/Bona/Drummond/Broome

I imagine they'd prefer their remaining big money players over George at this stage.

Herro was an All Star last year averaging 23.9/5.9/4.7 on .605 TS.

I don't like the guy, but clearly they take him over PG at this stage.

It’s ok value wise, Sixers probably have to add another 1st, but if Nico trades Flagg after trading Doncic… forget Dallas, he’s gonna have to leave Texas for his own safety.

Nico would not avoid the tar and feather treatment this time if he did something like this that probably tops the Luka trade for idiocy. He would need to enter the Witness Protection Program.

If the Spurs sent Barnes, Vassell, and 14 to PHX for Durant... does that make them more or less likely to want to move down from 2?

Let's just keep trading back 1 or 2 spots at a time and picking up 1sts along the way. "We freaking love VJ!", "Ace is a superstar!", "Tre... Amirite!?!"

End up with Kon and a couple future picks, go home happy.

Sounds like a perfect draft to me.

Neither? Could argue it both ways. You might have a slightly better argument for them adding to their future draft chest to go out and get another superstar once the wheels fall off KD... But you could also argue Harper is that guy to take the reigns.
