What actually has McCain done in the NBA? He's played 23 entire games in his NBA career got injured and now you are projecting him as a better and more efficient player than Maxey. I don't get it what am I missing here?
And for those that want to trade Maxey to Utah. Why do you hate him so much. Why do you want to wipe that smile off his face, why do you want to rip the joy of playing basketball away from him. Send him to Portland, send him to New Orleans or Washington even. But Utah, that is cold, cruel and unusual punishment for a homegrown player that has given his all to this team. SMH

You're right, and I stand corrected for even suggesting being open to dealing him, a first for me.
Only caveat would be that I was thinking more of sparing him some awful years here by getting him to a situation where he might land with a sane organization with a real plan for winning. Orlando seems to be on the right path, but not so much New Orleans.

It's a rite of passage for our homegrown stars. Let the man wallow in some bad seasons. The fans will love him forever in Philly.

Re: Tank Watch 2025
Suggesting that Jared McCain is going to not only be
a viable, but also better replacement for Maxey is beyond stupid. He's 23 games into his career and will be coming off a torn MCL. If anything, I'd say he's off to a suspect start to his career. We don't know how he's going to recover or respond. He may very well come back and end up averaging 6 ppg off the bench in a limited role. At that point we'd all be crying about how we didn't sell high on him. I don't know, I've been watching this game for 35 years now and I can't completely 101% say that McCain is the real deal. He put up empty stats in what were mostly losses...Bad losses at times. We were getting our doors blown off with him as the lead guard. The same can actually be said about Grimes. It's easy to look at what Grimes and McCain (to a lesser extent) have done and go "they're just as good as Maxey", when they simply are not. I like Grimes and McCain but we should be looking to utilize them with Maxey as opposed to trading Maxey because we think Grimes and McCain can do what he does. They may in fact be that good, but I don't see it and if they were that good, their performances would have translated to wins. Grimes is scoring 30 points and we're losing by 30. In January this team was playing it's best basketball without Embiid or George and with Maxey leading the show. Had we been able to continue the trajectory we were on, Maxey would have probably had us at the 7th spot. Not exactly world beaters, but we were figuring it out with him as the alpha.
How the draft turns out and IF we even get to keep our pick is going to determine a lot moving forward.

Brooklyn up on Indy by 11 late 2nd. Seems like every game they get a nice lead and then blow it in the final minutes. I get it...We're tanking too, but why is always Brooklyn that we are dueling with?

Maxey played in a lot of those games too and they weren’t winning. This isn’t an indictment on Maxey. I agree with most of what you said, but it’s not fair to put that on a rookie and a guy that’s only been on the team for a month.
always a jump shot away.

I’m only trading Maxey for a similarly aged, obviously better player. Which isn’t happening, so there you go.

Brooklyn just put on a truly otherworldly tank job to force OT

Pelicans have the chance to win out. Charlotte is also playing all winnable games aside from OKC.

Very likely true. My only point about moving Maxey, McCain, or anyone else is that a clear plan of action needs to be determined going into this off season, and I don't think we are in any position to take hard and fast positions, like this one or that one is 'untouchable'.
Listen, it is highly unlikely, but if a team throws some kind of crazy multiple high picks offer for Maxey, or a young player at a premium position for McCain, we're not going to listen at this point? We aren't competing until George is gone and the Embiid situation is resolved, so I'm not ready to draw any lines in the sand about what we will or won't do to improve this situation.

I don’t think anyone is untouchable. If offered a Mikal Bridges-esque offer for Maxey you have to consider it. But I also feel we have more pieces in place and are closer to contention than Brooklyn was at that time.
The Pistons aren’t trading Cade for Maxey. Pels likely wouldn’t trade Zion for him. I’m not touching Ja with a 10 foot pole. I think Maxey is a tick better than Wagner, Banchero, Lauri, Garland, Haliburton etc. The only players that I think might be a realistic options are LaMelo and Barnes. I’d think long and hard about those guys, but can’t say for certain I’d make the deal.
always a jump shot away.
