I know why he's projected at the end of the first at the moment and, once again, it's going against all my principles in the draft, but his defense does not look bad. Actually has a Maxey type defense in which he shows high effort but doesn't rip it from ball handlers as much as you'd like. Doesn't seem to gamble on blocks or steals. Keep his feet on the ground and works to contest. I'd say my biggest issue with his defense is that he gets completely consumed on screens. Might just be a freshman thing however. I watched an interview with him where he said he has only recently gotten to this 6'5 height (with shoes), so he's still adjusting to the length and height. Also said he started getting more aggressive going towards the rim rather than settling on fadeaway 2s.

Not a great shooting game for him and his teammates didn't help his stats by mishandling passes or bricking shots, but that shot form is pure. And the difficult shots he takes gives me encouragement that he can become a tough shotmaker in the league. Him being so young and having those chops suggests he will only improve in that regard.

I think putting him with Maxey and having them grow their game together would be a match made in heaven. Both are low turnover guards, Maxey is a better scorer than Carrington, but Bub is a better passer, imo. I'd take the risk on Carrington with our pick thinking that he'd feel more comfortable in a sophomore season at Pitt and would have become one of the best players in the ACC next year.

why would he be a must draft?

88% from FT and decent volume, albeit bad percentage, from 3 suggests he'll be fine from outside. I'm more concerned about his reported 6'5 W/S.

McCain was the perfect player to play next to Ben Simmons, dont like him with Maxey.

Clingan’s measurement in standing reach and wingspan is comparable to Embiid. Im more impressed on Embiid’s length.

Ron Holland, the No. 2 overall recruit from the 2023 high school class, could slide completely out of the lottery, per DraftExpress

Holland has recently scheduled pre-draft workouts with the Heat (No. 15) and Lakers (No. 17).

After an inconsistent season with G League Ignite, Holland’s potential draft range is massive.

I can sleep soundly knowing Morey won’t draft Edey in the first.

I don't like having Carrington and McCain on our team. Don't get me wrong; I think they’re solid players. However, I believe they’re better suited for the point guard position. At shooting guard, they’re too short to make a significant impact on defense and rebounding. Additionally, they might struggle to get their shots off against wing defenders with length and athleticism.

Flipowski’s standing reach is just comparable to Pj Washington and John Collins’.

Several teams say Edey's productivity ranks him as a top-three prospect in this class according to their draft models -- ESPN's Kevin Pelton had him ranked No. 2 in his stats-only draft projections.

Reminds me of a better scoring version of Rondae Hollis-Jefferson.

However, without the ability to shoot, not sure if his drafting team will want him in a scoring role. He'll likely have to downgrade his role to the RHJ one, at the NBA level. He'll likely be a guy asked to guard the other team's best scorer, pass the ball, and run in transition.

I agree with this, fully. I do not want a muchkin backcourt.

I'll throw out a controversial take. I don't even want Devin Carter, even though he's known for his defense and rebounding for a G. We'd just be too small. If Trae Young and DeJounte Murray (all NBA defense in his career) don't work, I don't want to experiment with any other munchkin with Maxey.

Probably a good thing since we still don’t have a point guard on this team. Also Carrington is 6’5 with the possibility of still growing. The struggles with finishing at the rim are valid. I think my main optimism regarding that was Shake becoming a good finisher after being trash in college.

This mock has us taking da Silva and bypassing McCain, Walter, and Carrington. Given the choice presented here, I'd love to see us take Walter. Put him next to Maxey and we finally have a real backcourt.

They have Knecht going to the Blazers at #7, and he recently worked out for them.

Passing on Walter would be tough to handle.
