Jaren Jackson is getting overshadowed by Ayton, Doncic and Trae. What do you guys think of him?
I liked him during the draft. I had him second behind Luka on my mock.
Thinking about it, I should not have ranked him that high because you don’t draft a big version of Robert Covington 2nd overall. You need a franchise player at that spot.

That's not the reason I had him 2nd. He showed extremely rare creation flashes off the dribble for his size, while being a potential DPOY candidate and being able to space the floor.
Ayton and Trae were always the safer bet on being more productive early on. I still think that Jaren could end up more valuable to a winning team.
Biggest disappointment is that the defensive rebounding issues have continued in the NBA.

Personally, I dont project him as a scorer or ability to create. Maybe im wrong. Im not a real NBA scout haha

Re: Around the League: 2020 Offseason
I saw Avdija playing yesterday and he gave me a good first impression.
He is not too quick but BB IQ and shooting seem to be high level.
Shades of the young Gallinari as his floor, imho.

Well JJJ averaged 17 ppg in less than 30 mpg he can score a bit. Guy just turned 21 in September.
He’s ahead of where Porzingis was for example in terms of scoring his first two years despite being a year younger. Ayton too Ayton just plays more minutes.

He had plus positional creating abilities when he was coming out. Very few PF/Cs get the rim at a sub-50% assisted rate. And that translated to the pros. Jackson can iso in the post and face-up drive from the elbows.
He's pretty much a perfect offensive big. Drive/shoot/post.
That defensive rebounding rate is bummer, though. Really holds him back.

Rebounding is bad but I will say that he was playing a lot alongside Jonas who grabs boards like crazy and then also good rebounding SFs in Anderson and for a while Crowder. It's definitely an issue for now but there is a lot else to like about him. The fact that he played at the level that he did at age 20 is pretty encouraging.

Re: Around the League: 2020 Offseason
It's kind of wild how practically no rookies are starting this year. I'm not gonna check the whole draft but in the top 10 only Okoro, Hayes and Avdija did in these preseason games. I assume Avdija will not start once Beal and Westbrook come back, and Wiseman I assume will when he comes back. EIther way that is less than half of the top 10 and 1 or 2 of the top 5 which is pretty light.
This was already a, let's say, raw draft class, and the quick turnaround is gonna do no favors.

Malachi Flynn looking good early on. I’m not terribly surprised, he had all the statistical prerequisites to being at least a really good bench player. Like Terence Davis, the Raptors know what they’re doing when finding diamonds in the rough.

Same. I thought that was an awesome pick for them. Was surprised to see a lot of disappointment on the Raps board on draft night.

Thats my issue with JRich, if there’s any. He’d get 20 one night then 6 the next night. He’s so inconsistent.

And it was magnified with us because we relied on him to score and create much more than he ever should have. He'll do great beside Luka.

JJJ is also a very good defender to go along with his offensive skills. I still think he's a multiple time All-Star regardless of the weak rebounding.

Still mad that Morey added 36 to him for Curry. Feel that was a huge misvalue. Dallas should have been adding the pick IMO.

Pick was about the contracts not the players.

Yes, and I still disagree with the valuation. There was a better deal to be made there with a team angling for 2021 cap space.
