See I think Noel's J will improve going into next season. Dude is just a worker so there is no reason to think he can't improve that J during the summer. I'm not going to compare him to Kevin Garnett stat wise, but his competitive nature and willingness to do whatever it takes to make stuff happen are very similar traits to what Garnett had early in his career.

Nerlens Noel will be 2014-2015 rookie of the year

I think that Noel and Embiid will be a great combination simply because they are both smart, athletic, and competitive kids. Plus Embiid is so skilled offensively that he will be able to do well no matter where he plays.

Better link to the vid last night against the Knicks.

I won't profess to any scouting skills or anything but is it unusual what Noel can do with his non preferred hand?

I like that he's shown his confidence to go with that lil lefty floater. Makes me feel like he's very confident in that off hand, and while we've seen him do his fave pivot-counter-pivot with a right hook combo, I'd be very excited to see him eventually go with an up and under with it then finish with his left.

.

Before the season started I thought that Noel could have the type of year that he has had, but once he started so slowly, I lowered my expectations for him this year.

He was more raw than I realized in the first part of the season, and at that point I would never have expected him to come on this strong by the end of the season.

He is a clear difference maker on the defensive end already, and his offense has improved as well. His jum shot and free throw shooting are better than I thought they would be at this point too.

Nerlens will not get the trophy but he might very well be the most impactful rookie.

Exactly. I really do not care if he wins it or not. Better not actually.

After seeing what happened to MCW, I doubt Nerlens can get an overly huge head about winning ROY. I hope he wins it in a landslide, because he actually deserves it.

He does. It's nasty but imagine the scene when Noel win the ROY over Wigg***.

I hope Noel wins it so the Sixers can go for the 3-peat next year when Joel wins it ;)

Just checked out his highlights from the Knicks game. Good God is he special. Granted it was against the likes of Bargnani, Amundson, and Aldrich, but Nerlens is a menace on defense. Must be awful to try and play with your back to the basket when he checks you.

Last 19 games: 13P / 9.5R / 2.4B / 2.4S / 1.7A per game on 50% FGs and 69% FTs. 93 defensive rating and 54% TS. Exciting progress.

Young buck is going to be a special player in 2-3 years.

10-15 lbs of lean muscle, his shot will improve at least some, and he's going to become much more dominant on d when he learns all the nuances of the game.

He is playing out of his mind over this stretch.

To put it in perspective, over the past 40 years, the only players to put up a season of 13/9/2/2 are Hakeem (4X) and Robinson (1X.) Granted, those guys were putting up 20+ pts and 12+ reb... but there have not been any other "lesser" players who put up numbers like Nerlens has of late. If he does end up consistently putting up those numbers moving forward, he will be a unique NBA talent.

Even dropping the criterea to a much more attainable (for Noel goig forward) 10/8/1.7/1.7 ( http://bkref.com/tiny/A5ADY ) and you really don't get many more names (only 16 seasons.) You just add a whole lot more Hakeem seasons (10), Robinson(2) and a few single seasons of athletic forwards (AK47, Bobby Jones, Dr. J and Kemp.) So basically Hakeem is the only one who did it consistently... and hopefully Nerlens moving forward.

Never has there been a low usage player who gets you that type of reb/stl/blk while chipping in a decent amount of points. And the low usage part is key, since it means you can put him alongside other high usage stars (Embiid + an elite wing scorer) and it won't diminish Noel's impact. In fact, it could make him better by freeing uup more open dunks off of lobs.

Agree. One of the reasons Noel was rated so highly before his injury was his intensity. Definitely takes it personally out there. Initially, this at times worked against him on off nights or against stars he was not ready for like AD. But I think he is extremely likely to reach his ceiling, and possibly exceed expectations throughout his career.

Along the same lines, one of the best things about Embiid, is that for all he is funny and engaging... on the court he has a serious mean streak.

About time. IMO, Mirotic should be higher.

I know some of you guys are fan of Wiggins. The kid is good but he's quite overrated.

Many productive. Only one dominant.

Noel is clearly a top three rookie in this depleted rookie class, definite all-rookie team, unlikely to win the ROY, but putting up winning advanced stats and will only get better next year with a bit more muscle and Embiid present so that Brown can set him loose on defense.
