The guys a complimentary role player, who will be active on defense, rebound for a wing and is a streaky high volume 3PT shooter. You can't rely on him for 20 PPG, which is what we seem to do at times. Replace him with a high level wing and suddenly his bench role is not as magnified. He would still come in, give you his usual contributions and if hot, would garner bigger minutes.

I don’t think I ever relied on him for 20ppg. Because I know he can’t do that. I do know he should be good for 13-14ppg spotting up for 3 and damn near lock down defense. I’m not going to expect him to be the best perimeter defender in the nba. Just seems his low bball IQ gets him into trouble on both ends. Like frontin Al Horford on that inbound. That’s defense 101. For a guy many consider and he probably will make first team all defense. That shouldn’t happen. I’ve seen him gamble for steals and he out of position on defense. On offense I’ve seen him put the ball on the floor and try to finish at the rim. Two things he is terrible at. Just play your role is all I ask. He didn’t do that in the post season and that’s frustrating. We relied on him to show up and he didn’t.

Cov is not nearly strong enough to play PF. He'd be ok at the 4 if he could dribble to exploit a 4 guarding him, but he can't. There's a reason why even when we had guys like Booker this year he couldn't get any minutes at the 4.

I think you try to sell high on Cov. We know that going forward, we're going to try to play with Embiid, Saric, Simmons and Fultz. If we want to get to where we need to go, they will have to be our guys. Where does Cov fit into all of that? On the bench. Moreover, Cov's biggest problems are (egregiously bad) shot selection and ball handling. Our ball primary handlers are going to turn it over enough. I think you trade Cov and try to find a guy like Luc Richard to come back.

If you can get something useful for Cov, that would be great considering we got him for nothing.

The only true issue with cov is ball security and shot selection. If he’s missing open ones or good looks I am just fine with that.

I’m not fine if he’s missing wide open shots and letting non-star caliber players look like star players.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

Try not to overreact to 4 bad games too much. Cov is still a valuable player on a good contract.

With that said, if the price is right I will deal him no problem.

E.g. if the Spurs are willing to take Cov + Bayless + 10 + 26 + some other spare change for a healthy Kawhi Leonard, then he's gone.

I'm still on the pro-Covington ship. I think he's a guy who's weaknesses will become less glaring with the more talent we have on the team and who's strengths will be emphasized. If we manage to add a star wing and Fultz becomes anything close to what we hoped, I think he's a far better fit in the starting lineup than Dario.

"Stretch 4" on offense. Simmons is much bigger than Covington so he would defend 4s. But I like Dario as 6th man.

I think cov has perfect value to take us from 10 to around 5 if we love someone in the draft

I have been a big Covie supporter, but he was awful against Boston. I get he still has regular season value, but our real target is matching up with Boston's wings.

He also has shown awful BBIQ all year. He will make a great play and then follow it up with an awful turnover. His dribble drive should be outlawed. His shooting is way too streaky to have in a lineup with Simmons.

I would look to move him in a Kawhi package or to move up in this draft or get a future lottery pick/pick swap rights.

It shows we need Lebron James to get to the promise land... and Lebron may now look seriously to come to Philly to add to his legacy. He can be the man that turned this team of promising kids that are 2nd round losers into Champions... who knows how many championships he could end up with... with 10 years of Embiid and Simmons taking him along for the ride in later years.

I am not sure he would have come to Philly if we made the ECF or heaven forbid got to the finals. Much in the same way Durant would not have gone to Golden State Warriors if they hadn't choked up the 3-1 lead in the finals and lost that series.

I think LeBron could hesitate to join a 76ers team that lost in 5 games to an injury depleted Celtics team.

He has to be thinking longterm and I’m sure he knows his main rivalry in the East for remainder of his career will be the healthy version of this Celtics team.

sixers has no excuse to lose the series without their best player

Covington is a nice 7th or 8th man on a great team. He's not a starter on a great team unless you have elite players all around him.

Some of you guys live in NBA 2k world. I know he makes some bad decisions with the ball, but you simply can't replace his defensive impact as easily as some people think. Same thing with JJ Redick and his shooting.

Glad he got the recognition he deserves for his defense. Props to Cov for working hard on his game all these years.
