Sure McDaniels will help with secondary rim protection and more consistent scoring / rebounding in his bench minutes, but I can't see it ultimately mattering with what I expect to receive from Tobias Harris and Joel Embiid when we desperately need them.

I understand, but be realistic. What add would you think was possible and could get us that scoring lift in play-off crunch time, and is also reliable on D than? Given what we could offer (Thybulle + a 2nd rounder + Kork)?

At least McDaniels can defend some minutes on Giannis or Tatum.

Tatum maybe. Giannis will toss him around like a ragdoll. He's like 190 lbs.

It's literally one of those moves, but also we didn't have more assets to do anything else.

If a guy cost 5 seconds, it's difficult for us to do whatever with what we have left.

It wasn’t even luxury tax. It was the repeater tax implications. They can go way deeper now without that penalty.

So we kept Korkmaz even after he demanded a trade?

Well yea, he's not really in a position to make demands, lol.

Alsi, these writers fuel a lot, if not most, discussion on this very forum.

You missed both points. First those players are the best athletes and competitors in the world in a sport with a long tradition that we all grew up with. Yeah we all go overboard with it (cuz it’s a hobby) but it makes perfect sense that they’d be the object of our attention and discussion. Woj and Shams not only don’t have anything to do with the game they don’t even write about it; in fact they don’t even publish more info or like gossip from behind the scenes or anything, they just say ‘this player is being traded.’

That’s second point: those writers don’t contribute a lick of useful info to our discussions—they literally just tell us public news minutes (sometimes seconds) before the entire world would know anyway. They’re famous because they’re ‘first’ by that minute or two and nothing more.

At the end of the day, they think they are much more important than they actually are. Skip A, Bayless, and the rest of them are no different than any idiot on realgm with an opinion.

They are only as important as the space the public gives them

Think it’s more accurate that Korkmaz was kept for us. Not a whole lotta options there.

I'm really hoping that Springer gets some actual minutes at the SF spot with Thybulle gone. I think he's going to be on Thybulle's level as a defender.

Tired of undersized lineups though it's ok for short stretches. Springer needs to get most of his time at SG. No room at the inn until next year though.

Yea, I mean, Springer is an inch shorter than Thybulle (shorter wingspan though). I think he provides close to equal defensive ability on the wings regardless of the position. Jalen will be a nice switchable option from 2-4, but we're going to need someone who is actually good at defending guards, imo.

All of this to say, I don't think Doc will take any of this into consideration and we'll get murdered on the wings, defensively.

Some names I think the Sixers could have interested in:

Terrence Ross, Nerlens Noel, Will Barton.

Yeah for me even if we had to package a 2nd to move he'd be the guy to go.

Must have been absolutely 0 interest

I've said that for years, which is why I don't get the idea of "media stars". These guys are just glorified fans who have the ability to hold an audience (incredibly enough, and I'll never understand how), but their knowledge of sports is no more, and often less, than any fan that watches the games and pays attention.

Korky becomes an expiring deal to move next summer, like Tobi.

It sounds like we are looking at a big and a guard/wing. Barton has been a Sixers killer over the years, but I haven't watched him at all this year in Washington. I'm hoping its not Pay Bev, his greatest skill at this point is racking up technicals and getting the other team riled up.

Yes a free agent but the sixers still have his bird rights per morey and morey said he can see him starting down the road for this team. Sounds like they want to keep him around

Ross or Barton would be awesome additions. 1 of those 2 + McDaniel + 2 2nds at the expense of only Thybulle would definitely upgrade our rotations. Less PJ, Thybulle and Harrell on the floor is addition by subtraction

Hopefully getting great looks playing off Embiid and Harden gets McDaniels up to 38%+ 3PT shooting. If so, he becomes a valuable starting F option.

Yeah I expect they plan to make a big all-in move this offseason or next deadline using the then expiring contracts of Harris + Korkmaz + maybe Maxey, similar to what the Lakers just did with Westbrook's big expiring.

That will be the last realistic chance to get the right pieces around Embiid + Harden.
