Byron Scott would be at the top of my list. He's had two bad seasons record wise with pretty awful rosters (1 in NJ and 1 in NO), but otherwise his teams have been very solid.

I'm not picky...just want a defensive coach who doesn't have an offense which requires extensive thought from the players. Pick-n-roll/pop, court balance, a few backdoor cuts, solid screens and movement to establish/take advantage of mismatches...keep it simple and compete in every game.

Meh. Byron Scott also was coaching Jason Kidd and Chris Paul who I think had as much to do with the team's success as Scott did. For me, hiring Scott will signal that we've learned nothing from the JOB and EFJ hirings.

Also, Doug Collins is apparently in the mix for the Hornets. I don't want Collins here so I'm hoping he gets the job down there.

Does anyone else think that if the team hires a no-BS guy like Laimbeer that guys like Speights can actually reach their potential?

Rick Carlisle could be out of a job if the Mavs get upset in round 1. I've always liked him. He'd be the best choice out of a crop of weak candidates.

Howard Eskin said that the Sixers are waiting for the Bobcats to be eliminated because he will be their first candidate, but they also have been in touch with Avery Johnson.

Based on how EXTREMELY quiet things have been for the past week and a half, I have to think that the Sixers, more specifically Ed Snider, believe that there is a pretty good chance Larry Brown returns to coach here. Also, I think that if Brown is the coach that DiLeo is then named GM with Stefanski being canned.

I wouldn't mind that... And would take him over everyone except Larry Brown.

Carlisle n Johnson have won games during the reg season regularly , but have choked in the playoffs with some amazingly talented rosters.

Brown while he may make questionable moves in regards to youth...has made a career ( ESP in Philly) of taking mediocore or piss poor teams and making them winnners.

I'll take LB.

That's what it looks like. Adrian Dantley may be out of work too if the Nuggets continue their poor play.

I would personally love Rick Carlisle. He is a great X's and O's coach, and seems solid. But it wouldn't surprise me if the Mavs kept him even if they do get ousted in the 1st round. I remember Mark Cuban saying that one of the moves he regrets was letting Avery Johnson go because of the Hornets-Mavs series 2 years ago.

Either way, I can see why coaches wouldn't want to coach for the Sixers. The GM is on a short leash, the Sixers canned their coaches left and right, and the environment is very unstable.

But they do have the 1:2 program: coach one year, and get paid for taking the next two off.

Your mouth to God's ear, bro. Just let me see ESnow sitting next to LB at the press conference.

While I absolutely would be open to hiring a guy like Laimbeer, it sounds like Snider is ready to write the check to bring LB back. Fire Stefanski...elevate DiLeo to GM (letting him run the draft and having him oversee the pro scouting effort) and get somebody like ESnow as Padawan...

I'm on board.

LB loved Snow, and I could see the two together if LB is back. Just wondering about the current chain of leadership of the team.

Isn't it Roberts brothers and co (Comcast)>Snider>Luuko>Stefanski(or New GM)>New Coach?

I think i'm going to be sick if LB is brought back in any other position than front office. Stop living in the past move on god damn this franchise is a joke.

Man, the Sixers management is really dead set no not letting go of the Iverson era........ I know it was a good time for Sixer basketball, but that nearly a decade ago, it's time to let it go. It's not healthy for a team to constantly be looking back at their past like this.

Brown, if available, is the best available coach in the NBA. Some would argue the best coach in the NBA. Past, present, or future...you get the best available talent. There will be no more second guessing with him at the helm as to "who could coach this team better?" (well, almost...this is Philly).

Why does LB have to be connected to AI? It just so happened that Iverson was here when he got the job...and is it purely coincidence that AI had his best years under LB?

I have no problem with starting over with a guy like Laimbeer, but the most important things that I want in a coach are 1) that he will have INSTANT credibility in the locker room; 2) that he WILL coach defense (ummm...what were the metrics for the Bobcats defense before and after LB got there?); and 3) that there will be ACCOUNTABILITY on the floor.

Smells like LB to me.

And my VERY IMPORTANT caviats are that DiLeo handles the draft and somebody like ESnow is waiting in the wings to take over in 2-3 years. The big beef that I hear from guys who don't like Snow is that he does not have "official" NBA coaching experience (although he was a defacto assistant to Mike Brown in Cleveland in his last season there). Snow gets direct experience under LB for a couple of years, and then takes over when LB takes the Episcopal Academy boys' BB coaching job.

I love it.

Not sure if it's been touched on, but looks like Kevin Pritchard's on his way out in Portland. He and Paul Allen seem to be butting heads.

Now, other than pooping the bed on selecting Oden over Durant, he's been an amazing GM and is beloved here in Portland.

Not long ago, the Jailblazers were the scourge of the NBA.

He cleaned up the roster, accumulated a lot of young talent and has kept this team rolling with a mix of youth and veterans.

If there were a way to get Pritchard, his staff and McMillan into the Sixers org, I'd be a happy man.

They play great basketball.

We did talk about Pritchard a little bit when the rumors began to circulate. Things seem to have calmed down but that could just be the quiet before the storm. It'll be interesting to see what happens when the Bobcats (Brown), Mavs (Dwayne Casey), and Blazers (Pritchard) are all bounced from the playoffs. I suspect that if Brown wants the job, that eliminates Pritchard from being considered.

I believe LB will have GM power if/when he becomes the HC.
