I'm willing to bet all of YOUR money that the Brooklyn pick was not included in the alleged deal. Just put yourself in Ainge's shoes. Would you do that deal and miss out on the chance to get Simmons? Hell no. Ainge is no dummy. He is not going to get the short end of a trade. Come on people. No competent GM is going to give up a chance to get Simmons to get Okafor. Now if the Brooklyn pick lands at 2 we can resist this then. I think it's possible we could trade Okafor for the second pick.

Ainge has said publicly that the Brooklyn pick was involved in their mystery deal.

But didn't Ainge also say he would only part with the Brooklyn pick for a transcendent player? Okafor is not transcendent. No way he gives up Brooklyn pick for Okafor. Not in a million years. If I had to guess the player he would give up the Brooklyn pick for who could be available it would be either Jimmy Butler or DeMarcus Cousins. Okafor is not worth missing out on Simmons. Butler and Cousins are.

Pretty sure the links are in the OP. Take a look.

based on what exactly?

Based on him being Danny Ainge. Some people are just born to be douches and suck at their jobs. I can't control fate, it is what it is.

Based on reading this this does not seem like Okafor at the moment. Simmons is a transcendent player. Okakor is good and could become very good but Ainge would be idiotic to gamble and take his team out of the running for Simmons.

When I’m looking at players out there, I’m looking at players that can make a big difference,” Ainge told the Boston Herald, “not players that can win us two games or anything like that.”

Ainge also told the Herald his goals are “to help our team become better -- not short-term better, but short- and long-term better. And not at the expense of wrecking our future.”

Also this article makes me believe the alleged traded for Okafor is bogus because we did hear rumors Okafor was being discussed in trades. He said it would have surprised people because the rumor never came up. And I'm putting myself in Ainge's shoes. No way would I give up the Brooklyn pick for Okakor and risk missing out on Simmons. That would be a panic move and very stupid on my part.

Okafor wasn't linked to the Celtics before, which is what he was referring to.

You have writers like the one in the OP saying very explicitly that it was indeed Okafor. It was repeated on the Celtics broadcast. You seem dead set on not believing that, but there absolutely is nothing in anything you said refuting it at all. :-?

The other thing that isn't calculated into the equation is if 1) Simmons and Ingram definitely declare for the draft, and 2) they don't suffer some sort of injury between now and the draft.

So even if Philly traded Okafor for the Nets pick and it landed in the top 2, there's still a small chance the Sixers don't walk away with a healthy Simmons or Ingram.

We all assume Simmons and Ingram will declare, and it is a pretty safe bet, but it is not 100% given. And as we saw with Embiid, an injury could affect Simmons and Ingram's draft position even if they do declare.

There is simply too much time between now and the draft. Lots of things could change. Hinkie's M.O. is to wait to the last possible second to gather all the information before making a decision. Not making this alleged trade, if true, is simply Hinkie being Hinkie. I'm glad Hinkie didn't take the chance.

I agree with the larger pt but Al J was never very efficient and Monroe was never very productive. The key reason some people are still hype on Okafor despite the obvious fit issues is that it doesn't seem crazy that he'll be a 24ppg 60% TS guy, which would put him at the Harden/AD level on offense. Even if his d/spacing issues prevent him from being a serious MVP candidate, he could be a top-10 typeplayer.

On another note, I think some of you are trippin about Simmons' value as prospect. Seems like he's being talked about as a Lebron-level guy by some folks, but he's generally viewed as sort of a Larry Johnson type, a solid #1 but no more. I don't really want to argue about that here--there's dozens of pages talking about that on the draft board, and hundreds of other articles elsewhere. But there's no one at this point who's betting that Simmons is a once-a-generation guy.

I think some of you should stop saying we should trade Okafor because of Embiid bla bla bla... I mean we all love him very much, but you can't blindly believe that he can stay healthy and be dominant in the league. There is no guarantee. So, please just keep Noel, Okafor and Embiid for next season.

As for the BKN pick, it is plainly simple to me that if it is 1 (Simmons), we win; if it is 2 (Ingram), it is 50-50; otherwise, we lose. Gauging the probability, I think we should pass.

It's just unnecessary risk.

Where the program will take a big step backwards if that pick lands outside of top 2. You'd still be in very good shape not making the deal, then try to trade Jah+Noel or one of our picks for Simmons or Ingram, if the FO really thinks highly of them.

Based on current odds (nets projected top 4), the trade for Jah is a good gamble for them. Where if the pick do land in the top 2, it's understandable on hindsight on why Ainge did the deAl. The draft is just flat out trash after the top 2. If the Nets pick lands outside of the top 2, Ainge needs to experience another year of purgatory dealing with another marcus smart type low impact lotto player again, hoping for another break. Landing Okafor this season then taking his chances on Nets 2017 is a much better move than hoping that his top 4 pick lands to the top 2 position and hoping for the best in 2017.

I think Ainge values Okafor more than Ingram so I think we can make that trade if Brooklyn gets the second pick. I think we should root for Brooklyn to get the second pick so we can make the trade if we want. Boston is one of the few teams that is already built for a player like Okakor. They have great defensive guard play. Their wing players and guards can guard and Okafor won't be that much of a liability anchoring the defense because there won't be players getting by the Boston wings and guards with ease and getting to the basket. Also they play great team defense.

Okafor is a stunning talent who will not only improve his own game, but will perform so much better playing with high calibre team mates. It's going to be very hard getting in-kind value for him, while knowing that whoever we deal him to will be that much closer to contending. (Mitch had Jah and KP available and took neither? Good luck with that.)

Simmons is a transcendent player now? He might not even be Roco with that slow 1st step. Pump the **** brakes people...

They made Olynyk and Sullinger way more than plus defenders, and I do think Jah is a better defender than both. Celts also like bigs who can shoot on offense. Yes, it's tailor fit for bigs like DMC, Love and Jah (I really think he'll eventually be a good shooter). I just don't know how much Ainge values Ingram.

Even if Embiid fails, Noel is a vastly superior bigman to build with. No matter how you slice it, Okafor has no future here. Get rid of him. This was a great chance and they pooped the bed.

Then you trade him on draft day where you don't face the worst case scenario of trading Jah for a pick that lands outside the top 2-3 spot. Jah and one or two of our picks should get it done. You just have more flexibility by holding unto Jah than relying that the Nets pick beat the odds and jump into a top 2 pick.

Man, if Nets and our pick lands outside the top 2 spots. The last two losing seasons will be put into waste.

I don't think you can get an actual top 2 pick this year for Okafor. The uncertainty of the lottery is what puts it in play.

It will be interesting to revisit this thread once the final draft order is determined.

Let's say the trade was a real thing.

Did we miss the opportunity to get a possible #1 or #2 pick for Okafor?

Don't have to wait to long to find out.
You want it to be one way....but it's the other way. (Marlo)

I honestly don't think these rumors are true. Smokescreen for whatever Ainge was actually doing imo.
