I saw enough from Bolden today to let me believe he should be in our 15 this year. I get the whole thing about wasting his first year of a rookie deal this year... but I think he can develop playing in the NBA and D-League quicker. He has the athleticism and shooting touch.

I'd be happy to see Okafor traded now and Bolden come in... for no other reason than Bolden proved he can play small ball 5 in an emergency and be a very good defender inside and perimeter defender at worst. I mean he is the same height as Richaun Holmes... as athletic if not a better nose for rebounding and getting offensive put backs and has a better outside shot.

I mean the dude has a 7ft 3 wingspan which is ridiculous.. and as we saw a sample of today he knows how to time his blocks.

From an article published just prior to the first SL game:

[Brett Brown]: “We are excited to have Jonah a part of our organisation during the Summer League and we are also excited to watch him go to an environment where we feel like he can continue to play and develop the most.”

I think another season in Europe will be priceless.

“He can get court time and actually play at a high level and we think that might be better served one year removed from our organisation."

“Anytime you can play against men, especially in a very respectable and difficult competition - that can only add to your development.”

That’s not to say that Brown doesn’t think Bolden will one day feature prominently in the NBA with Philadelphia.

“I think the fact we drafted him where we did reflects that opinion and that is shared by many in our organisation,” he said.

“The people in our organisation have been following Jonah for some time.

“Again, where we drafted him speaks volumes of what we think about him.”

So it seems Brown envisioned Bolden to continue in Europe for another year. Perhaps Bolden can convince them otherwise with more impressive SL performances.

After Bolden reads that I expect him to turn it up even more in the next game.
He does not want to go back to Serbia.
Why send away a potential taller and better shooting Roco who is cover for SF/PF/some5.

I highly doubt Bolden is a better shooter than Roco and I don't think he's going to be able to play SF. He's not going to be the perimeter defender Roco is either so that comp makes no sense. A better comp might be poor man's Ibaka.

Spent his last season as a SF/PF and shot 40% on 3s .

76ers should be getting him experience for incase they let Roco go next season.

Prefere him in the 15 over TLC ,Korc , Anderson , Stauskas , Poythress & Ok4 and on par with Holmes.

Promising 2 way players at 6'11'' don't grow on trees.

Jonah Bolden is like the Christian Wood experiment on boosters. He looks good. Still needs a lot of refinement and I'd like to see him play against grown men before declaring him ready for Philly. I think one more year abroad will be good.

Well he already played a year against grown men.
Fultz, Tatum, Ball, Jackson etc. didn't.

I don't think Bolden's presence will impact Covington much. If anything Saric should worry about his playing time. A PF with the tools to protect the rim and hit 3's is a little more valuable to most teams than one that can't do those things.

I'd prefer Bolden was here... give him a season in the system getting to know the plays. Play mostly in the D League and get the odd NBA game. Who knows with rest/injuries *touch wood* there might opportunities to give him a go and who knows how well he can do. Only downside is it uses up a season of his rookie salary.

Bolden coming in as Amir Johnson comes off the books next summer is the perfect set-up.

Only 168 attempts though and from a closer distance than NBA 3. He shot 60% from the FT line too.

Dario actually shot slightly higher his last season overseas (40.7% vs Bolden's 40.5%) on slightly more attempts (172 vs 168) and Dario only shot 31% from 3 in the NBA.

I'd take way under on Bolden shooting 40% from 3 going forward, and I'd bet he shoots worse than Covington from 3 going forward as well.

I also can't imagine he's going to be capable of playing SF in the NBA, regardless of where he played overseas.

Bolden was a menace!

My case for Serge Ibaka as a free agent was based on us missing a stretch four who can play up to the five. Amir Johnson fits that mold. Bolden is even more perfect. He and Saric will form a great tandem at the four.

I also think Pasecniks will eventually be our backup five. Hopefully, Korkmaz can be Covington's handcuff. Gotta give it to Bryan, he found good combinations of fit and talent.

....

Willie Reed and Alex Len are about to get paid, Cristiano Felicio and Alan Williams already got nice checks, and capspace is drying up. There's a market for centers on rookie deals if we want to bring Bolden in now.

As much as I like TJ, I would trade TJ and one of our bigs to Phoenix for Tyler Ulis--that way they don't have to overpay Alex Len, and McConnell would be a draw in Arizona like Oladipo is in Indiana. Tyler Ulis will obliterate the Isaiah Thomas and Kemba Walker's. Just needs to pull his shot outside (but so does TJ). Have Justin Anderson too. Lol.

....

Tyler Ulis and Jonah Bolden?

November:
Ben Simmons, JJ Redick, Robert Covington, Amir Johnson, Joel Embiid
Tyler Ulis, Markelle Fultz, Timothe Luwawu-C, Dario Saric, Richaun Holmes
Jerryd Bayless, Nik Stauskas, Furkan Korkmaz, Jonah Bolden, Andzej Pasecniks (or VetFA3)

February:
Ben Simmons, Markelle Fultz, Robert Covington, Dario Saric, Joel Embiid
Tyler Ulis, JJ Reddick, Timothe Luwawu-C, Jonah Bolden, Richaun Holmes
Jerryd Bayless, Nik Stauskas, Furkan Korkmaz, Amir Johnson, Andzej Pasecniks

ulis is worth much more than TJ

either way i dont want ulis, or TJ getting minutes on this team

For at least 15-20 minutes per game, three 76ers under 6'8" (this includes Robert Covington) will be on the court with Ben Simmons. In November, December, January, February, March, April, and possibly May.

kids got a couple more games to show if he's able to light it up any. no doubt about what he can do around the defensive rim. great story if he can make the cut this year.

scenario:

JoBo goes back to serbia now.
Sixers make an in-season trade that frees up a roster spot.
Can he get out of his contract then, and possibly the buyout will be less?

may be a best of both world's scenario

Its fair to say he's inked in as a stash; he looks great in certain areas of his game, pretty raw in others (was in 6 or 7 fouls the other day?). Needs to bulk up a bit. You can see him potentially playing limited minutes in the NBA right now just because of his tools but its likely he's better off with extended playing time back in Europe. Loved the pick at draft time and love it even more after watching his summer league game, even if he's not playing for another year.

Only way the buyout is less is if his club is in financial difficulties. Because getting a replacement mid season is much harder. Chinese season can end early enough to be back in time to make a playoff roster. Or it can run longer with playoffs.

Return to Philadelphia 76ers
