Kid had maybe the best work ethic I’ve ever seen out of a high schooler. Elite mentality also for life not just basketball. I don’t love the tiktokies but that is just a reality now that we are drafting deep Gen Z kids

Love the pick. He just has an it-factor to being a great player. Reminds me of Maxey personality-wise. Excited to watch him and Bona.

He's insistent on making the worst posts on this website today. Tough because bum is back, but he's keeping up.

I guess it's a certain troll quota we have to meet. All season it as Ferry and Bum, and now Bum is back as MikRay along with Leon.

Totally agree !!!

I think he looks like he could step right in and be Maxey's backup from day 1. Maybe take 10 or 30 games to settle in, but then be a great contributor for 15 mpg, with Maxey and McCain never sharing the court at all. The point at which he is good enough to command starter's minutes is the same point when he trade market will be highest and he leaves to bring in something better.

It's Summer 2026. Jared McCain was a great Sixer. He even helped win us a ring, but now we say goodbye in a trade that brings in Star X.

we only have to worry too much about how he fits alongside Maxey if he becomes good enough to be a starter (which would be great). but at 16th in a weak draft, I don't think that should be the default expectation. More likely to be Maxey's backup which is fine.

At the rim 2-3 attempts per game on 60-61FG%

Jared can shoot and the Nurse double guard dribble drive system player is the fit here. I expect us to go get so long defensive wings at the 3/4 soon...

One player that could give optimism for McCain being a creator and penetrator: TJ McConnell.

Their games are very different, but I'm bringing up TJ because when he came out of college he was not projected to be any type of guy who could drive or create his own shot. He was a small guard with limited speed, decent ball handling, no athleticism. He was just a "crafty guard" it's why he went undrafted. But in this year's playoffs he was actually giving defenses a lot of trouble. Against the Knicks he got into the paint at will, was creating for others, finishing around the rim.

I think McCain could very easily develop those same types of skills, except he also has an elite jumper to compliment them with. Point is, just because you're small and unathletic, doesn't mean you are going to just be a spot up shooter in the NBA. TJ has shown us that limited guards with limited speed and athleticism can be very effective creators at the NBA level. And McCain would have the jumper to go with it.

I'll put my stamp on that now as my McCain projection: A better version of TJ with a 1000x quicker release, better finisher, and a pull up jumper that extends to beyond 10 feet. TJ has an ok pull up jumper all things considered, but he rarely takes his outside of 10 feet.

Man, I really love McCain as a person. The people trying to knock him down for his TikTok's or painting nails are stupid. This is a guy whos work ethic, leadership and demeanor is universally lauded as not only being good, but top 1%-ish. He's not doing videos or anything else at the expense of working on game or being a good teammate.

He's maintained this attitude all while being a 5 star level player since the beginning of HS where a lot of his 5 star peers let it get to their heads.

I'm pretty skeptical of his value during the remainder of Embiid's prime and even if he hits his CJ McCollum type ceiling it will be after Embiid is transitioning out of his prime. But I will absolutely love rooting for this guy. He's everything you want from a culture standpoint. And he's fun too.

I've been reading more about this guy and honest question is he really a point guard? Sure he is point guard sized and may have played point guard at Duke but he sound like a combo guard to me more comfortable scoring then play making. This is certainly not Tyus Jones. I have no problem with the pick as he was projected to mainly go right around here but he will not be a significant contributor this year imo which makes it an odd pic for a team claiming to want to contend. I would have preferred to use this pick to bring in an established veteran that can help win now.

Most people I've heard refer to him as a guard or shooting guard.

Who’s the better scorer between McCain and Sheppard?

I don't know much about him but on the PHLY podcast they said he was a point guard in high school, but played a shooting guard role Duke.

Honestly, his “YouTube” looks better than Maxey’s in HS and college.

Non-highlight videos of McCain's games:

Top five from this draft when it's all said and done. Probably top 5 in ROY given his fit in this offense, even if it's off the bench. He doesn't make a ton of mistakes and has a nose for the ball. Also will get himself open in an Embiid run offense. He's going to bail us out at times next year.

I watched the NC game highlights because I wanted to see his 11 rebounds. This dude is smart on the court. If the ball is finding you and you are an average guard athletic with below average wingspan you are putting yourself in the right places on the court. He does this both on offense and defense. I think he'll surprise in his ability to hold up against bigger players after a year in an NBA strength program but his wingspan will make it easy for many players to shoot over him. But he's not going to play himself out of position. You are going to have to take it from him. Not much playmaking but he's a lot more advanced with it than Maxey was coming out of college. A lot of good stuff. Just wish he had longer arms but then he'd be a slam dunk to go mid-lottery.
