Also interested in picking up Santi aldama (probably too expensive) or Kai Jones.

Jalen Smith is unplayable because of his poor awareness. I’d rather take a shot with Mo Bamba and still have Oubre.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

How much salary can we take back when trading him?

I imagine the salaries would just need to match?

I've just done a deep dive on this. Example below, just assuming 17.5m for arguments sake...

"The Sixers can sign-and-trade Grimes using his Bird Rights, but with a starting salary of $205.75M (including Grimes at assumed $17.5M), they must shed ~$1.1M (e.g., waive Council) to stay below the first apron ($195.9M) after a sign-and-trade. Due to BYC rules, Grimes’ outgoing salary is $8.75M, limiting them to taking back ~$8.75–$10.94M unless they include a significant salary like Oubre ($8.38M), but even then, roster charges make taking back the full $17.5M impractical without further cuts. The Nets have ~$48.4M in cap space but a guard-heavy roster, reducing their likelihood of offering Grimes a large deal unless they prioritize his two-way fit or aim to disrupt the Sixers. A modest offer (~$15–16M) is more likely, which the Sixers could match, but a sign-and-trade would be constrained by the first apron, limiting returned salary."
Scouts described him as “unprepared to answer certain questions,” and his response to a question about his strengths and weaknesses—“I ain’t got no weaknesses and I got more than two strengths big dawg”
