You know, the funny thing is they could absolutely hit on those picks and not end up with egg on their face. But my God does their process suck.

Two things can be true - they made two great picks and they’re still going to suck because they’re managed horribly.

Murray is ball dominant.
Jordan Poole is ball dominant.
Fears is ball dominant.
Zion (when he plays) is ball dominant.
DQ is an on ball player.

Wtf is their team structure lol

I'm getting super hyped now about our second round pick. We're picking in the early part of the round and I like the chances of hitting on a player at that spot. So excited...Only to watch us trade the pick away for future cash considerations.

Turns out trading down to the 8th pick last night would have been a disaster. All the tier of players everyone wanted were gone by then. Even trading down to 7 would've been bad. Kon, Ace, Tre all went 4 5 6

I’d be very happy with one of Thiero, Fleming, or Reynaud at 35.

If it guarantees we can resign Yabu and Grimes, it may be worth it.

We need Fleming to pull last minute Ace-like shenanigans to ensure he falls into our lap lol.

No doubt the hometown kid wants to be here. Tell MIN, BOS, and CHA that he won't show up if they draft him!!!

What do you think about trading 35 for Kyle Filipowski? A guy I wanted last year.

No way Utah does this. Way too good for us.

Generally I feel like Morey bets on defensive tools with length and/or athleticism in the second round. And ranked in HS seems to be important too (in recent years).

Adem Bona (RSCI: 18)
Charles Bassey (RSCI: 9)
Filip Petrusev (RSCI: 81)
DeAnthony Melton
Dillon Brooks
Chinanu Onuaku (RSCI: 64)

Also I think finishing at the rim is important to an extent. Our UDFA have been Justin Edwards (64% at rim), Ricky Council (66%).

Rasheer Fleming has an insane wingspan, pretty good defensive stats, not terribly athletic from the eye test. But he is young, which is tough to find at this point in the draft. Not on the RSCI ranking. At the rim: 69.9

Adou Thiero has a good wingspan, very good defensive stats, very athletic, not as young as Rasheer, also not on the RSCI ranking (but I imagine Cal recruiting him adds weight). At the rim: 68.0%.

I could see taking a shot on an international option like Alex Toohey or Bogoljub Marković. Morey hasn't really done that in a while save Petrusev, but this second round is going to drop off a cliff quickly.

Do y'all think S+T Grimes (3 years/50m) for Jalen Smith works?

Would love

Otherwise, is Fleming or anyone else worth burning a few second to move up a few spots?

ExplosionsInDaSky wrote:I like Broome at 35. I know Broome has his issues, but he's got that Paul Millsap/Carlos Boozer vibe to him. Those guys slipped to the 2nd round for the same reasons he did. I also think the rebounding carries over. Broome had his best games in the biggest moments of the tournament. To me that carries weight, and I think he'll surprise some people at the next level. That being said, I don't think he's on our radar. Fleming will be gone right away, otherwise he's the guy I like the most. I'm a big Chaz Lanier fan, but he's probably not a fit here at this time. Also like Jamir Watkins out of Florida State, but it's possible we get him as an UDFA.

100% disagree. I watch a lot of SEC basketball, and Broome is the classic good college big whose game doesn't translate to the next level. He lived off of bullying college bigs, but at 6'9" he's an undersized 5 who can't space the floor or shoot FT's, making him nearly worthless in today's game. Tough kid, competes hard, but at best he's a career back of the bench big. Please avoid.

Jamir Watkins is definitely from the same world as Ricky Council. He's kind of like some of those later first rounders from last year (Tyson, Shannon, Jones).

I don't think he's going to take one of the slow 7 footers or another guard, given our backlog.

I'd say we're probably looking at below. We need a true PF who can shoot and rebound, in case they play with Bona or Drummond.

1) Rasheer Fleming - Would be shocked if he's not taken before us
2) Bogoljub Markovic - I think this is the most likely pick
3) Johni Broome - Could play minutes right away, but wouldn't be able to share the court with Bona or Drummond. Lack of shooting.

UDFA's:
1) Grant Nelson
2) Eric Dixon
3) Viktor Lakhin

I'd absolutely take a flyer on Grant Nelson. He's a gamer that would fit the culture we're building here.

Maybe that's why they didn't trade down. Morey probably had a feeling or some good intel.

Agreed on Nelson. I think he'd be an absolute grinder. He's not starter, but could give us 15-20 minutes in a game where the other guys need rest or are injured.
