Re: Ben Simmons Trade Thread part V
The winning move for both parties was front the media, admit the problem. Keep quiet, head down and play well to recover value then get traded when the whales circle and get more desperate.
Simple strategy and more effective. But Ben isn’t the person to do that. He’s a spoilt kid living in his own world.
This is maybe a rare time when someone of higher power said no not this time not a chance in the world. Kick up a fuss? Sit out fine you get a fine.
Welcome to reality it can be a b*tch.

One of the rare times I 100% agree with you. But I think the Cavs already know which one they want to keep. A poll recently from coaches/execs Garland won the majority on who will breakout this year. He’s a stud

Yeah I would say he’s more untouchable than Mobley for them

Simmons is under contract, he has no need to trade him, and no obligation too, it's just Simmons here who wants to get out, we can't trade him for peanuts just because our little primadonna has decided he wants out, if a good enough trade presents itself then ok, but if not, the team can't just accept the demands of a player who himself accepted a 5-year contract to play here.
If he’s a bum then we should accept peanuts

Re: Ben Simmons Trade Thread part V
If the Cavs give us an extra pick to take Love’s contract is it close enough to do the deal?
Let’s say:
Ben + Korkmaz
Sexton + Love + 2 1sts (very lightly protected)
Then:
Sexton
Green
Thybulle
Harris
Embiid
Curry
Maxey
Niang
Love
Drummond
Milton/Springer/Reed/Bassey
Starting unit, deep bench with nine long and 8/9 contracts can be moved pretty easily.
Heck Milton and Drummond (best deal for us so far) could essentially give us back positive assets this season at trade deadline. Same with Curry if need be for a potential mid sized contract of a good player.
Morey loves the 15-20 mill multi year player after the 2 max deals.
Seems like a win win to me. Year after there’s 2 years left on Harris’s deal which could actually be turned into a positive with non FA teams having unused cap and Love could be a buyout who knows.
Seems like we have a GM that’s building a list.

I don't recall ever feeling strongly one way or the other about Sexton/Garland until now.

Yeah, Coby White is my guy. I'll always ride for him. I think he would legit tear the house down if he played in front of the Wells Fargo Center. 6'5" 200 pound guy that can function equally elite as both a bomber from three and chef cooking up defenders one-one-one in isolation.

If those two frp's are unprotected then this is fine. I still don't really rate Sexton, but I mean he's autobuckets, fearless and a player who's passion you'll never have to question.
Still only 22, would be massive if he leapt into a >5 AST, >5 3PA & >6 FTA per game player (he's on the cusp)

Also Explosionindasky did you have a crystal ball or something? 15-18 was you’re est on Mann... Mann went 18.
Talk about precise
Also I rate both the Jalen’s too. (Johnson was really 5-6th best).

Thing is I don’t rate Mitchell highly (or Sexton but he can score and works hard every year) but if Sexton could be our Mitchell type then we should have much higher upside with Embiid vs Gobert.
Im not sure we can get two unprotected picks. Cavs could be all the way bad this season so the picks could be really valuable in the end if they are not protected
We’ve been looking for a 25/5/5 guy for awhile now if Sexton can be that then it’ll be better for the team.

? whether Love is playable so we’ll simply be eating $60 million in salary
That’s worth plenty by itself

Morey should be doing his job and getting the best possible deal. That’s his responsibility as manager of our roster. If we have to wait until Feb, then fine. However, I wish I knew all of the deals he has actually been offered, because I’m not confident waiting this out gets us a better deal. As I said in July, I would have had a minimum idea of what I determine as acceptable, and if offered that, I trade him and move on. The Woj reports of Morey expecting a massive return concerns me, because if we overvalue an asset, we hold too long and watch it lose further value.

A defensive specialist who demands playing out of position while on a max contract doesn't yield the prize of any team. He really shouldn't yield Sexton if we're being honest.

Donny Mitchell shout is interesting.
I semi-rate Mitchell, but in the Booker/Beal/Lavine/Murray debates I've always had him clearly below Booker and Jamal Murray. Donovan Mitchell is an ELITE scorer. He's just a demon when it comes to creating offense for himself. He's a ~27 ppg scorer who was only assisted on 15% of his 2 point field goals last season. That's absurd. Give him the ball and clear out and he's going to deliver. His playoff numbers are crazy too, his scoring actually increases come spring. Not rly a notable facilitator besides rudimentary drive & kicks, and his defense has been so-so.
But he also shoots like 7 three's per game for his career which is a mega positive.
I don't think Sexton has the explosiveness to ever be the scorer Mitchell is, but he gets to the line more already and I think he has a more sophisticated playmaking bag. Especially if he enters a 2-man game alongside a generational big like Joel Embiid.

If we’re being honest, Sexton runs the offence for one of the worst teams in the NBA and is a godawful defender
We won’t be able to score enough points to offset the sieve that would be a Sexton/Maxey/Curry/Shake backcourt

Yeah but they won't trade him, so Sexton is a good consolation prize for Bum Simmons and the mess he has created.
Morey created the mess
He could have traded Simmons at any time and hasn’t done so
As we discussed in the last thread, the most credible rumors has deals along the line of:
Cleve- Sexton and salary filler
Portland- McCollum and filler
SA- Murray, Walker, Johnson, and pick(s)
Sac- Barnes, Heild, Bagley and pick(s)
GS- Wiggins, Wiseman, and two picks
Ind- Brogdon and a first
Minn- Russell, Beasley, and draft pick(s)
Tor- couldn’t find solid report, but some suggested FVV or OG
Is there a deal here worth taking? The Garland, Dame, Fox, Shai, Lavine, Anthony Edwards ideas were mostly our fantasy trades.
Tough call in my opinion. The GS picks will be low and we don’t want Wiggins. Maybe we could’ve gotten a good stash of picks from Minny. Same with SA. Depending on the picks offered, I think Morey maybe had a good enough deal on the table to move on, but I doubt it was anything much better than above.
