Re: 2024-2025 College Basketball / NBA Draft - Volume III
So when I first saw we got the third pick I looked at theringer’s mock draft and saw this on Bailey:
“His supplemental rim protection is rare for a player of his size and offensive potential. Ace may be best suited to follow the example of Jaden McDaniels and leverage his physical tools to become a defensive terror—only, with much, much more to offer on offense.”
So my thought was, okay, he’s a good pick because even if he never breaks through on offense, he can contribute to winning on defense. But the guy refusing to want to work out for anyone because he wants to be a star early, doesn’t strike me as someone willing to do the dirty work and be a defense first guy early in their career. I’ll trust Morey whichever way he goes, but Ace wouldn’t be my pick at this point.

I'm sure the feelings are mutual.
Lamelo has had absolutely zero spacing around him. Spent several seasons with Kelly Oubre. He's had Bouknight, Jalen McDaniels, JT Thor and Cody Martin as his wing shooters.
You could literally combine the attributes of Cody Martin, Oubre and JT Thor & amalgamate all three of their busted jumpers into one and you'd get rookie Ace Bailey.

Put the squeeze on Charlotte.
#3 (VJ) for #4 + #33 + #34
Then at #4 take Tre, hold Ace hostage for bid, or just keep him.

Not as much Kon. You dont' draft Kon unless you're dropping to 6-8.

Don't buy into the paranoia DisgrAce FC are trying to spread on VJs name. Constantly lying about his height, his age and now undermining his shooting prowess.
His historical FT numbers + the fact that he was launching 8+ a game per 100 poss at Baylor are the most clear and obvious predictive indicators of a next level shooter.
He's in the next tier after the certified elite guys like Kon, Tre & Kasparas. Similar to Flagg. Superior to Harper. And like five tiers clear of Bailey and that loaded musket animation.
Oh for sure, I’m not worried about VJ’s shot at all. I think he settles in as an above average 3pt shooter when it’s all said and done. Thiero is another case tho - if he had a jumper he’d be a lotto pick.

Kon was interviewed. VJ and Ace were invited for dinner and a workout. We’re calling Spurs trying to see if we can move up for Harper. That rounds out the 4. We have no connection to Tre.

Melo led the league in 3 point attempts didn’t he? I don’t think he cares about spacing

Re: 2024-2025 College Basketball / NBA Draft - Volume III
After the Ace debacle i saw some videos of Tre and VJ today:
I´m having a hard time picking one of them. VJ athleticism is mind blowing, his first step is elite, and he will be an exciting player for sure with his dunks, and he´s a good defender too. I saw some nice passes there too, so i think he can be a decent passer. My main worries with him are his handle and his shooting. Can he develop some off the drible shooting? I saw some flashes in the video above, so i think he has already a foundation there. Another thing is his 3 pt shooting. I think that is what will swing his potential to be an all star. Can he shoot at a good % with good volume? I have my doubts since he showed a lot of variance shooting the 3 ball( in the beginning and end of the season), so thats are main worries.
Tre shooting is really OP. He shot like 42% from 3 on CS and had like 45% on stepback 3, thats screams harden too me. His passing is underrated too, i can see him complementing Maxey well, since he had really good passes. The bad things are his driving game and defense. I think he can be an adequate driver( saw some highlights of him with some nice drives) since he seems to have sneaky athletiscism. He´s really bad playing defense, but i just dont value that area much on guards. There´s a fear that Tre may be just a shooter, which is real, so he would be more of a 6th man kinda of player. But i dont think so, his off the drible shooting is insane man, so i think he projects as a good starter, even an allstar.
So it´s really hard to make the choice. I really wanted to draft Ace, because i prefer wings, but it seems that the chance of that happening is almost zero now. Really hard to pick between VJ or Tre...

We only know about the zoom interview because he mentioned it. For all we know the Sixers already did one with Tre or plan to. Teams don't only do due diligence on players they're interested in. They go beyond that. Because you never know what the draft will hold and you need to be prepared. I'm sure they've spoken to other players as well. We have no idea who their top 4 is we can only speculate. It may not even have VJ in it considering the hype around them liking him could be bait to try to get teams to trade up.

Two 2nds aren't cutting it. Would want a future 1st to move down a spot. 27 1st UNP does it. VJ might be in the 2nd tier with Harper now.

He's one of the most relentless drivers in the NBA. Constantly collapses defenses for kick-outs, which are futile unless you have shooting on the perimeter. Until Miller got drafted they had nothing.
I'm not surprised they want nothing to do with Bailey considering they have JT Thor on the roster already. VJ brings off-ball spacing, secondary ball handling, the ability to open up the floor + defense from day 1.

I think that the Sixers want VJ, Nets/Wizards want Ace and are willing to trade up. I also think the Sixers don’t want to pay #3 money, but the Hornets will take VJ at 4. So kind of stuck in a predicament.

How much do you think Grimes is getting? I don’t see him getting starter money. That would be over $20mil per.
Grimes is definitely starting, regardless of whether he gets $15m or $20m/yr.
Grimes haters and naysayers better get their licks in now. He was damn good last year and will be a very valuable starter for us.
The offense should go through Maxey and Grimes going forward.
Yeah if he comes back by default he should start. He’s earned that much I think. I don’t think he’s worth paying $20mil per or more. Granted I honestly don’t know what’s the max Sixers could offer him. I’m sure it’s been mentioned I just don’t know offhand.

I don't see Bodner and Neubeck saying that's the pick unless they know we're interested in him.

Ace Bailey is set to become the first ever top 8 pick with a free throw rate below 30% and an assist to turnover ratio below 0.8.
AKA the first ever prospect of this caliber to be simultaneously garbage at shot creation / slashing & passing.
Appalling profile.

There are a lot of plays of Tre driving to the rim in this video. I dont think its too much to ask that he can became a decent driver in the NBA( with his athletic abilities and size), with more spacing. If he becomes good at it, generating some fts, his offensive game will be really hard to stop.

All 3 of the Phyl guys have Tre Johnson going to the Sixers. They’re all pretty plugged in as well. Wonder if they know anything.
always a jump shot away.
