It was his ankle, not his knee...

In the postgame interview he said his knee hyperextended again..

I don't have a problem with the minutes thing - 28 is enough for him to control the game and in general I am a fan of the key reserves getting 15 to 20 mins each night.

The b2b's though - that's costing games. I understand why for this season but next year it would not be good.

Sit him down for a week to make sure. Why take a chance? Helps the tank too!

Make sure of what? If he's good to go he should play Tuesday. If he's not good to go then he shoudnt.

Rest Embeast

Post#904 » by Att » Sun Jan 22, 2017 9:34 pm

Embiid right now looks like a knee injury waiting to happen. Can we just let him rest for a few games to gain his legs back?

Am I the only one worried about him?
He had a few mishaps last game that had me worried.

Has been being discussed in this thread for past few pages so I merged. Mixed responses so far.

This is assuming the medical staff never makes a mistake and 100% of the time does the perfect job, which is naive.

His awkward landing put extra burden on his foot and it's probably the cause for his stress fracture. I hope the front office could spot the obvious problem and work on it before embiid eventually hurts himself again

My thoughts exactly

He needs to work on this **** really hard at least during the offseason

What exactly is going to happen if we rest him even though his knee is structurally sound? Your own piece of mind is not more invaluable then his reps on the court. Embiid is raw as hell and needs refinement on a lot of things which he can only learn to do at full speed during games.

I'm not sure a guy of his size will ever be able to land properly. He's 7'2 280 pounds(at least). When he moves like a gazelle and he stops on a dime, and all of that force and momentum is carrying him after a dunk or driving into the lane, what do you think is gonna happen? It's not like TJ McConnell driving to the basket here. It's a tank

Imo the Sixers need to drastically alter they way they have been playing Embiid to maximize his potential and secure his health.

This year he hasbeen playing like his ass is on fire. I would like to see Embiid put on 20 lbs of muscle and anchor him in the low post. Forget about the 3's, forget about taking off from the foul line. Instead concentrate on defense and pound it inside on the low post like Shaq used to.

Embiid thinks hes a Giant version of The Greek Freak or Durant. He would be better served down in the low post imo.

If he puts on 20 pounds of muscle he needs to lose about 30-40 pounds of what he currently got. No way do you continue to add weight to his frame. I expect him to lose 15-20 pounds next season.

I think that you only modify his game to increase his effectiveness on the court. You don't change it just to make it less likely for him to get hurt.

You try to protect him by training, sports science, and rest stuff.

On the court, you let him go.

I disagree 100%. Youndont limit him. If you only have him play down low you will make him less of a threat and effective. Plus in today's NBA it's tougher to just camp down low. The more versatile you are the tougher you are to defend. He just has to lean to land better and move more fluidly. If he gets hurt he gets hurt. You have to let him play. I don't wan to see him get hurt. I want him to have a healthy career but I wouldn't make him play near the basket all the time and no limit him.

Was it a hyper extended knee (reported shortly after the game) or bone bruise (as per BC)?

Then came the injuries. Embiid sprained his left knee early in the season and suffered a bone contusion, missing only one game. Later, right before the Big 12 tournament, doctors diagnosed him with a spondylolysis, a stress fracture in his lower back.
This was during his Kansas year.

Looking at the replay, it looked more like a hyperextended knee or a knee sprain to me.

Personally, I think he's fine and can play the next game if needed. I'm still in favor of limiting his minutes to 28mpg.

A bone bruise is often a result of hyperextending the knee (as is a torn ACL but hopefully that was avoided in this case)

Oh that explains it. Honestly it looked like an ACL type injury when I first saw it. Good thing nothing happened.

whoa. welcome to the world of alternative facts.
the medical staff could be wrong so therefore we don't listen to them on medical issues and just go with our gut feeling?

Nah, just saying... Resting Embiid as much as possible is a win/win. Good for the draft pick as well as extra precaution for the cornerstone of the franchise.

Fair enough. I think that we should keep listening to the medical team (who have had a very prudent approach all along) and let Embiid play as much as possible. He's getting better game by game, so why take this opportunity from him?
