Re: Official Andre Iguodala Trade Discussion and Rumors Thread
Hold on. Let me get through choir of violins...ahh, here I go.
Really? Iguodala is too important to this franchise? He's a good player that's making a little too much money than he is worth. Wilt was too important to this franchise. Doc, Moses, Cheeks and Andrew were too important to this franchise. Charles was too important to this franchise. AI's goofy behind was too important to this franchise.
Iguodala doesn't belong in there.
There is no one on the current roster that is too important to not rid of. Blow it up and I guarantee that no player would be missed.
Ahhhhhh get that violin out my face!!!

We got rid of those players with disastrous results. By all means, let's stay consistent.

^^^ I don't understand your response. The point I made was that Iguodala is nowhere near the category of player as those players were. They were players we didn't want to leave (except AI since he was pretty much done here).
Your response doesn't make sense. Why would you stay consistent and shower with all kinds of love an above average player?

My response is that trading a productive player for a number of lesser parts rarely if ever works absent exigent circumstances. If someone offers us a better player than Iguodala, I'm sure we'd trade him. Absent that, it's stupid to move your best player when you get inferior pieces in return and still don't have the cap space to make a big leap forward by signing a super star.

That's the problem, though. This franchise loves holding onto role players instead of freeing themselves from a situation of mediocrity.

all u guys needed was a center and a pg. People told me Young didn't have any halfcourt game to play the quick forward. He was posting up taller players shooting fadeaway jumpers.
Iguodala was shooting over Lebron and attacking going coast to coast. And held him to 8/15 in 44 minutes. Basketball is a team game.
Iguodala and Young are better than any wing player on memphis right now.

and fyi i'm watching tony allen and sam young post up Ginobili at the SG position. Clyde Drexler is rolling in his grave.
Lebron/Wade is gonna get his might as well have put the onus on the refs to call 6'4 Wade playing post defense on 6'7 Iguodala.

Re: Official Andre Iguodala Trade Discussion and Rumors Thread
I don't get the opposing view on Iguodala.
"Don't trade him, he's our best player and we can't get equal value back. He plays defense."
1. He's our best player through years of experience and opportunity. I wouldn't even put him in our top 3 in terms of talent.
2. You rarely get value for very good players signed to contracts made for great players. Just accept it and deal with it.
3. You can always find capable wing defenders. Often for not much more than the MLE.

Re: Official Andre Iguodala Trade Discussion and Rumors Thread
I think the big problem with the whole "argument 3" is that yes, you can get a wing defender on the cheap...But in a sport where you have 5 guys on the court, it's hard to start a guy who gives you absolutely nothing on the offensive end without having very good offensive players in the rest of the spots.
The Celtics were able to start Perkins because the other 4 were so good on offense, same with the Heat and playing Anthony big minutes, or the Lakers with Fisher. We just aren't good enough give up Iguodala's offensive production for nothing at that position unless we add firepower at center or SG.
I'm still going to disagree with you on point two because Iguodala is not paid like a "great player," he's paid as a "very good" player, a #2 option.
For example, look at the playoff teams and where Iguodala fits in terms of salary.
Chicago - 2nd (3rd when Rose gets his max deal)
Boston - 3rd
Miami - 4th
Orlando - 4th
Atlanta - 2nd
New York - 4th
Philly - 2nd
Indiana - 1st
Average in east 2.75
San Antonio - 3rd
LA - 4th
Dallas - 3rd
OKC - 2nd (yes, behind Nick Collison)
Denver - 2nd
Portland - 2nd
NOH - 2nd
Memphis - 3rd
Average in West 2.625
So unless there are over 30 "great players" in the league, he's not paid like one.

Yes I'm Ed Stefanski and I'm lambasting my own roster moves! That's the ticket.
This team might as well gamble and trade away Iguodala. Only guy i feel bad for is Elton Brand who came to Philly and will have to suffer the rebuild.
And your guys MLE comments about wing defenders is hilarious as by the same logic anyone can sign an MLE defender to cover Turner. The writings on the wall, just don't be surprised if Young leaves, Turner has to play the sF and you guys peak at 30 wins and the Knicks, Heat, and Lakers are signing your former Team USA players.
Evan Turner and Jrue Holiday are redundant imo and Turner will at best be Brandon Roy/Kevin Martin/Tyreke Evans type. People show you numbers that Iguodala is a rare player and u can find easy pieces to fit around him and u say f**k it he makes too much. Then we show you numbers that say he is paid in accordance to production and you say it again.

Re: Official Andre Iguodala Trade Discussion and Rumors Thread
Because Iguodala Island is NOT a rare player. There is nothing rare about him.
Bottom line is dude isn't needed for this team. He is needed for a title contending team that needs a 3rd banana or Bobby Jones type.

True...Other than the fact that only one other guy in the league does what he does on a night to night basis, and it's Lebron.
Not to mention the fact that the only player his size to ever have the season Iguodala had (combination of points, rebs, assists, steals, and the 3:1 Assist to turnover ratio) is that guy Magic Johnson.
Hate on him all you want, but don't make stuff up.

How the hell can Iguodala be a rare player and not be a star player at the same time?

Meaningless did-you-knows.
Iguodala hasn't even sniffed an all-star appearance and has been apart of a total of 6 playoff wins.
He's about as rare as a pidgey.

Because rarity doesn't imply stardom. There are plenty of rare players that are terrible, plenty of rare players that are very good, and rare players that are stars.
Korver is a rare player. He had the greatest 3 point shooting % of all time last season...Does that make him a star? No, but it makes what he can do rare.
Manute Bol was rare in his height...Star? No.
I'm very serious.

Kyle Korver isn't a rare player. GTHOH
You said rare as in Lebron and Magic. Those are truly rare players. Iguodala is far from that. Hell, there might be a guy on the team already that can do what he does...being a nice player at best with an overall game.
Rare. LMFAO!
