Is their goal to be a true contender or is their goal to just improve the roster? Both are not necessarily the same. The latter might improve you short term, but hurt your ability to become a true contender down the road if you trade for short term fix guys like Gasol.

Wait, who's saying Waiters is the prize?

I just want Drummond. If we can get him this offseason, I don't care what else we do.

Waiters? Really? There's a decent chance he falls to 15, and I wouldn't even take him there. That would be crazy to move up for him.

I'm OK with Drummond...just saw SF list Waiters in each of his options (I think), and was commenting on that. Nice to have options...and of the options I do like the Toronto proposal the best (especially if they keep the 15th pick and deal a future piece if needed).

that way you now have a 20 point 10 rebound PF and an insanely athletic long shotblocking center next to him...

what would you guys say to that scenario?

that would be very interesting no doubt

Where would he play, how many minutes would he get and how would signing him affect Thad?

Landry makes ZERO sense so long as Thad is here. Besides Landry being bigger than Thad, they are virtually identical. Both can score, neither can defend or rebound the ball. How many PF's do we need that can't rebound. Would be another stupid signing if they bring him in.

Since I won't be able to sleep tonight knowing this was left out there...

Why was it afraid of 7?

Maybe we should move all the way up to the second pick to be sure we get a superstar. Oh wait.....we just did that two years ago....

Look I am just not as hope and pray on the draft as others. Gasol is no MVP candidate but he would instantly give us the 2nd best center in the East for 2 years at least. That's a start. If Jrue and Evan don't develop the way we think they can, the current roster will be moot anyway. These guys will 3rd and 4th year pros next year seeking large extensions. Let's beef up for the present and see what we have.

Iggy, Thad , 15th and a 2nd rd for Bargnani, E Davis, 8th ( Jeremy Lamb) and James Johnson.

Theirs a scorer (Bargnani) size athleticism and length ( E.Davis and Johnson) and Jeremy Lamb has a 7'1 wings span and can shot lights out.

Most effective as a point guard as the primary ball handler. But he can play 1 2 and 3. Jrue and Lamb are pretty long on the wing so he can play 3 and not hurt the team.

Lamb shot and interviewed poorly at the combine and had bad motor questions coming into it, so I doubt he merits the 8th pick now, nor do I want him and certainly don't want to trade up for him.

Waiters I am not a fan of yet, but if he has developed a jump shot to go with his driving skills and improved attitude, I might buy into him being a Tyreke Evans type who can shoot. Thick bodied and long armed to compensate for a lack of height, also seems to have a hard as nails, killer attitude on the court. If he works out really well, i might be talked into liking him. Might.

Turner is not really a point guard, just a ball dominant two guard who can't shoot and has barely league average athleticism. Not as tall, strong or lengthy as Iggy as a SF, nor does he have the hops Iggy does to challenge the better SF's. He is more of a glue guy, sixth man type, sort of a poor man's Iggy with a better handle. Building with him as a rotation player is fine. If the plan is to build around him, we might as well blow it all up now.

In my view, if we trade Iggy, we need to replace both starting wing positions. Turner can play one, but not especially well.

Jefferson deal
Jrue/Watson
Turner/Meeks

Now you may question Thad as a 3 or Jefferson as a 5 but in the east.....who knows. Doug can mix and match.

Gasol deal......
Jrue/FA
Turner/Meeks
Ross/Thad
Humphries/Lavoy
Gasol/Vucevic

Raptors deal
Jrue/Calderon
Waiters/Meeks
Turner/Thad
Humphries/Davis
Lavoy/Vucevic

I really dont like the Raptor deal as much...Calderon just really isnt a huge need......it depends on how much they love Waiters.

I dont think these scenarios happen. There wont be a Jefferson or Gasol trade. Iggy will be back. But i do think Brand will be gone(via amnesty). Lou will resign 5 years 40 million. Hawes will be gone. Meeks will be gone. Brand money will go try to go to Deron Williams but we end up with Humphries. And Sixers will gauge the trade interest of Thad/Turner. Maybe move them to Houston for Scola and Martin. Or maybe flip them to Utah for Millsap or Al Jefferson. Maybe get Tyreke Evans and Jason Thompson. maybe...........

Hate all of these Hump scenarios. They don't need to toe up a ton of cap space on another player who is good but not great.

Hold onto flexibility until you have your franchise player(s) in place. Then spend in the complementary pieces. But right now they don't yet have the franchise player so they really can't know what other pieces will end up being the right fit or best use of limited resources.
