I feel bad, I really like Tobias as a person. One of the most genuine and down to earth guys you could ask for. Sucks.

Agree. One of the most bizarre things I see is people making fun of him for being well read as if that's bad. It's crazy what lengths people will go to criticize someone because they aren't worth what they are paid. The truth is most guys who sign free agent contracts for more than $10m a year don't end up being worth their deals.
He's clearly impacting the front office's ability to build a true championship level contender because of the albatross of a contract and his limitations as a player and I believe all the basketball related criticism is warranted but it should be left there.
He does good work in the community and represents the organization well off the court. That said, the fact remains that he is paid for performance on the court and it's not good enough and dealing with the subsequent fan reaction is baked into the job responsibilities and pay grade.

You know what?
Tobi is a good fit for the Hawks.
Hawks got lengthy wings which they can max out to compensate for Tobi’s size. While Tobi could be a better fit with the Hawks if Trae is just gonna run constant 1-5 PnR with Capela.
Hawks can hide Tobi’s lack of physicality at PF with Reddish and Hunter at the wings and Capela at C.
John Collins’ salary isn’t that much better than Tobi. Tobi’s salary is about to expire 2 years earlier than Collins.

We would have to add astronomical amounts of value to swap the two though

I do think we have to add value to compensate. But I dont think the value should be “astronomical.”
By doing the trade, Hawks will just be as good as they are right now without the trade while still allowing them to roll the dice on offseason of 2024 for a chance to add a $40M per year player.
Reddish and Hunter’s salary expires by 2024. They can add a $40M guy then re-sign both Reddish and Hunter.

Re: Tobias Harris Trade Thread
Why would you feel sorry for a guy earning ten of millions per year?
Criticism comes with the territory anyway
The book thing isn’t serious
Recently, a bunch of people on Twitter criticised LeBron for the same thing
Social media is a weird place & if it’s affecting Tobias then he should get off it

Just to put things into perspective
Russ is supposedly another good guy
Westbrook cops more crap every day than Tobi has gotten in his entire career
His contract is better than Tobi’s because it’s shorter

Tobi for Westbrook works without any fillers.

Sounds crazy but I would do it as Russ would work with Embiid

I respect you for taking a stand on that, no matter the fact that you're in the minority of that opinion.

The thing about Russ is that people expect him to change
He won’t
At least we have a monster who can grab offensive boards whenever he chucks
Russ is also an elite passer
He will never go quietly into the night and that’s a big thing
Live by the sword or die by it
And then there’s the contract
Worst case scenario is that we have gotten off Harris a year earlier

Excellent post. The reading cracks are just easy attempts to lighten up the situation, I don't believe anyone is making fun of a guy for wanting to improve his knowledge.
Problem is, as you alluded, he is being paid like a superstar and is essentially not much more than a journeyman, making him impossible to move and preventing any real improvement that can be made through trades. If he was being paid half or a third what he's making, this wouldn't be an issue. He would be lauded as a great teammate and member of the community, and would get no more criticism than anyone else on the roster not named Embiid.

Okay, but I am making fun of him for only reading self-help books.

Depends if they're for on or off court help.

He asked for that contract himself and he thought he was worth that much, it's not like they were forcing him to take 180 million for five years. Now the very least he can do is face the music.

Are we sure Tobias reads? I get serious poser vibes from him. Feels like he's just a bookstagramer that buys books so he can wear an expensive outfit that contrasts well with the cover of the book so he can take a dope picture.
Wish he had a pocast so I could hear him talk about his interests to confirm.

I first became aware of his 'alleged' reading habit here, so maybe somebody else knows. The idea of Tobias posing in nice suits with books as props is pretty funny, though.

The book cracks, IMO, go back to the dumb jock stereotype. From that same mindset comes the idea that says if a guy is considered to be too smart with outside interests, then he isn’t “dedicated enough to the game”.

Absolutely, and he also held off from signing this insane contract until Brand and Brown assured him that he would play a more prominent role in the offense. How's that working out?

Honestly, I hope Ben and Tobi go to Sacramento and lead them to a win in a play in game. Their quality of life would be way better than in Philly in terms of fan response. They’d be treated like gods by the fans if they managed to make the playoffs a few times rather than get raked over the coals in Philly.
