Exactly. So then why are we trading it away for a future pick that’s guaranteed to be worse?

Cause none of these guys being talked about at 3 has #1 or even second option potential.

The "closest" is Ace and so many things have to go right for him to even approach that level.

The other guys Trae, VJ, Kon etc will probably be nice role players eventually.

At least we have control over our future picks it opens up optionality for any future trades.

Are you saying there are 5-6 guys in next years draft with #1 potential?

If we have a top 4 pick next year, we will get one of these guys you think has #1 potential and still have our #3 pick from this year 8-)

Tre and McCain have some similarities in their numbers. Both increase their FTr as they get into more difficult opponents. Top 50 quality games, Tre: 29.5 FTr, McCain 28.3 FTr.

McCain really took off against better opponents across the board though, while Tre largely stayed the same. McCain had jumps in 2FG%, FT%, DBPM. I really like prospects that lock in when it's crunch time. McCain certainly did so.

Well you are right about that but I would rather have our picks back

Switching things up a bit. I think Danny Wolf is going to be good. Be nice if he were there at #35.

Unfortunately Essengue won't be at combine b/c of the playoffs.

::EDIT::
Saraf won't be at combine either.

Have we ever taken a foreign player with a lottery pick? As far back as I can remember it's never happened. I know we've drafted foreign players, but unless you count Simmons (who might be the wimpiest Australian ever), I can't think of one. I know it's different ownership/era, but traditionally we haven't done it...Just like we've traditionally been bad drafting in the early part of the lottery.

I've seen a couple mocks that have Queen falling into the late teens. I don't see any way that happens, but trading down to 5 or 8, still getting Tre and also getting Queen would be an amazing scenario.

I have full faith and confidence that no matter what these Mock drafts say no matter how many people are pro or anti Ace, or whoever they think is a good pick at #3, I believe that Morey and company will make the correct pick. Shoot they have done it picking in the middle and lower portion of the draft, this should be a slam dunk. If there is no clear cut guy at #3 for the 76ers I would like to see them do some trading magic and end up with Cedric Coward another pick and a pick swap...at least. The biggest knock against Cedric is that he will be 22 once the season starts but the man is an extremely hard worker, mature, confident and he keeps getting better.
You want it to be one way....but it's the other way.

Almost SG size which is a positive. Probably the best distributor in the draft. If Nolan can learn to shoot he could be very good.

There’s quite a lot of good options at #35. Drake Powell, Hanseng Yang or Cedric Coward (tankathon).

Also consider the difference in defensive attention faced by a number one option, where a primary defender is locked onto you at all times, with a help defense or zone scheme constantly ready to collapse.

I'm so meh with this lottery, (even IF Harper fell to 2) that I'm at the point I think Morey should call OKC ask for 15, our swaps back, and some small asset from them for 3.

That way, if Embiid's knee is toast (which it probably is) we have control of our picks, except what we owe Brooklyn. Which if I'm not mistaken has to be conveyed 2 years AFTER our obligation to OKC?

OKC only owns our 2026 first-round pick, they don’t control any of our pick swaps

https://fanspo.com/nba/teams/oklahoma-city-thunder/21/draft-picks

I think there’s a big gap from 3 to 15. With 15, the options are guys like Liam McNeely, Jase Richardson, Nique Clifford and Egor Demin.

15 and the 26 pick returned for 3 only works if the Sixers are tanking again.

Which they aren't.

Black Mage wrote:I just don't see the kind of explosive leaping you'd expect from a guy with a 37.5 vert. With that vert and his wingspan and in a practice session where guys are supposed to look unstoppable; he looked meh to me. I've been saying his hips are stiffer than you think in a game setting and this video also showed that.

In theory, VJ Edgecombe and Ace Bailey should be unstoppable at the rim in the half court as well. But scoring and finishing in the paint is about more than just length and athleticism, you also need touch, craft, and the ability to read the defense. Things like pump fakes, pivots, step-throughs, and spins all matter. Guys like Jase Richardson, Kneuppel, and Kasparas are finishing over 60% at the rim despite being below-the-rim players without elite length.

I see Tre using his length and athleticism in actions both in HS and College, intercepting passes, finishing breakaway dunks, and shooting over defenders. He doesn’t strike me as having that “fake vertical” like JJ Redick measured at the combine. In my view, he doesn’t like physical defense, that’s my profile of him as a shooter. But you can see this length and athleticism more in open court and perimeter than in the paint.

He reminds me of a young D’Angelo Russell, similar 6’10” wingspan, high-level passing, heavy perimeter scorer but D’Lo was given the opportunity of playing lead guard at Ohio State. That said, I think Tre is more athletic and is more serious NBA player given his work ethic and demeanor. That’s why I’m optimistic about his development.

I think the D-Lo comparison is a good example of why I struggle to get behind a Tre Johnson pick at 3. D-Lo beats Tre on pretty much every metric across the board. Better 3P%, TS%, FTr, stock rate, BPM, and almost 2x the assist rate. Maybe Tre is a harder worker and his improvement curve is way better than D-Lo but as prospects the comparison isn’t very flattering for Tre.
