Yeah, now that we won it doesn't seem like such a big deal. lol

I understand that he is going to be a healthy scratch for some games, and that there is a whole load management strategy. My initial disappointment was because it didn't seem to make any sense to do it after a 4 game layoff, but the Utah air is a good enough reason for me. I DO subscribe to the theory that fatigued players are more at risk for injury.

oh yeah, I'm with ya. Why this game of the road trip after 4 days off? I was right there with ya. Just nice to see that this team will still play competitive without him.

There's no 10 pack a day smoker in the world who could move Joel's 7'2", 280 pound ass up and down an NBA court at all.

It's game conditioning and a little bit of weight. These things take a few weeks and it's hard to work on them if you don't get court time. He'll be fine.

I read reports embiid didn’t even
Practice today and still back east.

I’m not sure he plays tomorrow in Sacramento.

They said earlier that he would play tomorrow. Unless something happened that should be the case.

Although I'm always skeptical with the sixers, Pompey said that he did some work with the physio, and will be joining the team in Sacremento along with Furkan. Sounds like he's playing to me...

Was "16 minutes a game" "hyperbole" too?

There's reasonable hyperbole that pokes at reasonable flaws, and then there's clearly off base hyperbole that suggests an agenda. Embiid isn't wheezing up and down the court like you suggest. He's simply not as fluid as he was last year, which could also be recovering from knee surgery. Players his size are always going to struggle with conditioning in an up tempo offense simply because of biomechanics alone. He could have the lungs of Secretariat and still struggle. (That was hyperbole, btw)

Embiid is my favorite player... but yes I have an agenda against him

It's not Embiid's fault he is out of shape. The medical staff are the ones that stopped him from getting a fitness base. That doesn't change the fact he has no fitness base.

Really, I could have sworn Simmons is your favorite player.

His fitness is actually decent, and would blow most people off the street out of the water. It's just enormously difficult to move a 7'2, 280+ pound body up and down an NBA court in a high tempo offense. That's why it's not fair to say he has "no fitness base." It can obviously improve; his cardio could get better and his weight can come down, but the latter is more important than the former. Your cardio doesn't go away overnight, but a few pounds can make a world of difference. Just ask runners or cyclists.

Overnight? no... but it only takes about 4-7 days for your cardio to start declining. I know from personal experience.

When I regularly attending boxing training (real boxing not boxercise in a health club) if I missed anymore than a week through rest it was like my original fitness base never existed... and that is because your heart has started "deconditioning" itself even in that short a time. Fact is though because I had a recent fitness base it was quicker and easier for me to get back into condition... only a few weeks.

When you are out the amount of time Joel was because of injury, he had no chance to even build a fitness base. He is nowhere near in condition yet. The only way to build up conditioning is to do more work... and because of Joel's injury concerns I guarantee the sports science guys haven't got him in a gymnasium running an extra 10 miles a day than everyone else.

Weight is only part of the problem. Joel could lose weight if he really wanted to... and the only thing I question with him is how is his diet and does he want to lose weight badly enough. Put him on Jah's diet and I guarantee he would lose it.... but I don't see him trying to at this stage.

I think he'll try to do it during the next offseason if he's healthy. He needs to be 265-270 max... If he is, he'll still be a monster, strong, but and with enough bulk, but very well conditioned... It'll allow him to lower the impact of his landings, and raise his stamina. I don't think he'll go vegan, but cutting things out like shirley temples, and eating healthy will do wonders.

I've read this story before.

1. Miss game through body management
2. Experiencing knee soreness
3. Has a bone bruise
4. Shutdown
5. Do nothing for 3 months
6. Surgery
7. Start pre-season late
8. Go to Step 1 and start again.

I mentioned in response to his tweet that I can never tell what he’s speculating and what he’s actually reporting.

don't know if this has already been mentioned, or if it's allowed, but has anyone read this article : , was curious as to what they say about Joel's impact. If this is a no-no, then my apologies. :)

my god, and so it starts

for now, I'm going to assume everything is ok since he just played 32 minutes last night but we all know how this goes

I want them to start sitting him vs the top tier teams.. we probably arent winning those even with him right now, especially 8v5 with the NBA blatantly cheating against us, so start resting him vs GS and a few others
