Your cardio doesn't go away overnight, but a few pounds can make a world of difference. Just ask runners or cyclists.
Overnight? no... but it only takes about 4-7 days for your cardio to start declining. I know from personal experience.
When I regularly attending boxing training (real boxing not boxercise in a health club) if I missed anymore than a week through rest it was like my original fitness base never existed... and that is because your heart has started "deconditioning" itself even in that short a time. Fact is though because I had a recent fitness base it was quicker and easier for me to get back into condition... only a few weeks.
When you are out the amount of time Joel was because of injury, he had no chance to even build a fitness base. He is nowhere near in condition yet. The only way to build up conditioning is to do more work... and because of Joel's injury concerns I guarantee the sports science guys haven't got him in a gymnasium running an extra 10 miles a day than everyone else.
Weight is only part of the problem. Joel could lose weight if he really wanted to... and the only thing I question with him is how is his diet and does he want to lose weight badly enough. Put him on Jah's diet and I guarantee he would lose it.... but I don't see him trying to at this stage.
