Utah and Philly trade rumor

Post#1 » by tatertotsnjuice » Wed Jun 2, 2010 5:56 pm

I cant really say this is a true rumor, but it was talked about in length on a local sports radio show here in Salt Lake City yesterday. The radio host has some credible insider info and he is the radio voice of the Jazz. So anyway here is the proposal:

Utah trades: Andre Kirilenko and the #9

Philly trades: Elton Brand and the #2

Also keep in mind AK's contract is an expiring of about 17 million. Also that his All-Star playing days were when he played the PF position.

Jazz fans were about 50/50 on the idea. I would love to know what you guys think.

It's possible that the Jazz have had internal talks about making that offer and that that's where the rumor stems from, but I can't imagine we would seriously consider it. I would HATE moving the #2 just to get out of Brand's deal.

I went on Utah's board to see what they were saying about it, because i think it's ridiculous, but most of them wanted a future memphis pick instead of their 9th this year to be used, and some wanted to see if they could get dalembert as well somehow. It's hilarious. You guys should check it out.

All this talk of unloading Brand is pretty annoying. We can unload Kapono (shooter who can't defend), Green (absolutely nothing) and Lou (streaky scorer who can't defend) and then add someone who can fill all their roles (streaky scorer/shooter who can't defend) for half the price but for some reason unloading Brand is worth giving up a potential star.

I can understand the uproar. The Jazz were just as mad when we gave away Eric Maynor for nothing as well as Brewer, and if I remember correctly most Philly fans were mad when we got Korver from you guys.

Fans are always pissed at cost cutting moves. This deal doesnt make you guys better. But it puts your overall team in a better financial state. I also do have to say your not going to get much better of an offer for a team to take Brand off your hands. You get a pretty good veteran player who is fun to watch and you still get a lottery pick but just move back 7 spots. This deal is not peanuts.

But these deals never pan out anyways but I just thought it was odd that you all acted insulted at that trade offer. Its all the same to me cause I really dont want see my team stuck with Elton Brand either.

I would not be surprised to see the Jazz in talks for a trade centered around Andrei Kirilenko, the #9 pick, and maybe the Memphis first for Elton Brand and the #2 pick.

Sounds more like a proposal than a rumor to me.

There's an uproar because all of this speculation is due to Chad Ford thinking out loud. Nothing coming from our camp has said anything close to trading #2 or favoring Favors, etc.

I did not hear the whole segement but it sounded as if our local radio sports guy here in SLC did have some type of insider info. Also remember Philly fans, with you guys saving that much money you could pay an All-Star next summer.

But the Sixers would save enough money to be able to pay an All Star next summer....ex. Carmelo....all just for moving down 7 spots in the draft. It doesnt seem that bad for you guys.

Yeah but the point is, none of us care about our financial state and at this point no one in the FO should either. We are years away from contention when Brand will be coming off the books anyway with a young core (especially with Turner) and other bad contracts we can unload if we're so worried about our financial status. Obviously his contract is the worst we have but there are other ways to cut down on salary by dropping much worse players who all play a similar role or no role at all. As over-payed as he may be, Brand isn't a black hole of salary like some other players. He still can actually contribute and we don't even know his potential yet post-injury since we had an insane coach last year who hated him.

I'll send a PM to SF76 and see if he had heard anything on this. I suspect there is nothing to this.

We aren't looking for a quick fix. What is Carmelo doing now with a much better supporting cast than he'd have here for a while?

You're welcome to take your proposal to the fantasy trade thread. Just don't flood our boards with wishful thinking trade requests and labeling them as rumors.

So the Sixers being able to sign a top free agent next summer doesnt interest Philly fans?
