I am not sure he will drop past the top 4.

Noel dropped to 6. In a far less talented draft.

1) its too early of this thread, we haven't heard the results from his surgery
2) this is being discussed in at least 2 other threads.
But to hazard a guess (and increase my post count

) I would say the Celts would grab him if they can't make a Love trade. Ainge would then probably go full bore and trade Rondo for future assets.
Just as a side comment, Bos would be really dumb not to trade those future Brk picks for Love. They have enough future assets that would probably make Minn happy.

I may be in the minority here, but if we want him, we have to take him at #3. No way he falls to #10, and I honestly don't see him falling out of the top 5, and it would cost too much to move back into the top 5 with the #10 IMO.

Because I am selfish, I picked 10.

I go 7 to boston
they need a rim protector.
The have Olynk and Sulliger who compliment Embiid.
Side note - if the Love trade happens we should dangle that to Minny for next year. It should give us a 2nd lottery pick for next year.

He's out 4-6 months

Embiid has a fracture in his navicular bone. That is the same injury that Bill Walton and Kevin Mchale had when they played together with Danny Ainge. I doubt Ainge will take the chance on Embiid without medical reports.

the McHale injury was 25 years ago. medical science has improved a lot. Ainge I'm sure would do his homework

With a far more predictable injury...I will be shocked if he goes before 10, unless the Sixers get another top 10 pick.

Noel did not have a degenerative condition. Embiid might.

I'm not too worried about Embiid missing 6 - 12 months, we can handle that with our timeline. I am more worried about the probabilities of problems down the line. That navicular injury is serious for a small, let alone a huge dude like Embiid. And add that to multiple back fractures already, too much of a risk.

Embiid's injury is definitely riskier. But just because Noel fell doesn't mean Embiid would. I wouldn't base my argument on Noel's situation.

I do not think he will last to 10. It is far more rare to find a potentially dominant big man than it is to waste the 7th pick in the draft.

the risk of drafting Embiid top 3 is too much.
i think starting with Orlando at 4, the value starts to make more sense.
He'll be picked between 4 and 6

Definitely true, although the #7 pick may have more value than usual in a draft like this. I think I'd be all over taking Embiid with #10 if he falls to us there. I'd also be willing to trade up from #10 to #7 (using Thad and/or cap space) to take Embiid there.
Then redshirt him for a year ala Noel and bring him along in a very controlled deliberate fashion. Probably limit his minutes to under 30 per game, and not have him play back to backs his first year, kind of like the stuff Pop does with Duncan/Parker/Ginobili. Really want to slowly acclimate his body to the full grind and rigors of an NBA season.

is it a possibility that Embiid is still taken within the top 3? I mean wasn't he the one game changing FRANCHISE player in this draft? Two way monster potential? Hakeem-esque, he's projected at FOUR-six months recovery, he could be ready for activity/action round the beginning of the season, if he shows according to team doctors that he should recover fine, & no ill long term affects could one of the teams take the chance? Go big or go home?
